Oh Martha, you are so amusing.

I had to go to the DMV in New York City to get my permit renewed last year (I can't drive!). The person administering the written test started calling everyone by the language they are taking their test in - hey Russian, git over here Chinese, sit down Papi. It's was just so wrong, but a little amusing. The DMV people are grouchy sometimes (by sometimes, I mean always), but they do have to sit there all day and they do have to take a lot of attitude from people.

I had to go to the DMV for the first time in 10 years. I was able to make an appt. online in advance and the whole thing was over in 15 mins. The DMV here in our small town amazes me with their efficiency, friendliness and ability to untangle bureaucratic messes (such as I had once with registering a used car).

God! Connecticut has the worst lines! My 17 years old daughter bought a new car. A guy who sold the car to her said he will go to DMV to take care of everything for her. He came back and asked for my driver license (because she is 17). The next day he went to DMV, he ended up came back to see me. They said they need my letter of approval for allow my daughter to own the car of course 17! I signed and gave to him. The next day he went back.... He called my daughter out of frustration. The DMV want her to have another special insurance because she is.... you guessed 17!
I told him let me go with you. I went to Wethersfield to meet him there. I refilled out the form so that I AM the owner of the car and she is co-owner. Problem solved. What a waste! I felt bad for a guy who went there numerous times.

Since this was posted in July and it's now September, I'm a little late! But, I just went to the DMV in Niles, IL to get my new license plate sticker. Didn't have to wait too long - there is a very good system in place there for waiting on customers. Funny though - from your pictures it appears all DMV's look the same! I'm sure you brightened an ordinary day there for a lot of people.

How funny! I love the Brewster DMV. The folks who work there are great. I recently went there with my son for his permit and what an experience. The gals at the window were great. Just like you, Josh, my son, was able to select one of three pictures. The wonderful girl at the picture window was so accomodating and funny. She made our experience so much more enjoyable!

The DMV is always an experience here. We have to drive 40 miles to find one. I just took my 82 yr. old mom and my new DIL, who just got her green card, to get CA ID cards. There was only one other family there speaking english besides us, and after a few minutes I was seriously wishing I couldn't understand them either! It was a boy trying to take his driving test with his stepmom, who had taken 1/2 a day from work to bring him. He had borrowed his sister's car for the test without checking that she had the required registration and proof of insurance in it. She did not. So, while waiting I had to listen to the several phone calls to family members and the serious "responsibility" lecture the young man received. He didn't get to take his test, and I imagine it will be awhile before mom takes off to bring him again. Good parenting, but not exactly riveting entertainment for me! Oh, and I have to do all again next week because apparently the SS# on the green card is not the "real" number. We have to go back to the SS office, then come back to the DMV with a different number. Oh. Joy. :)

I recently moved from one state to another and had to get a new license. You were very lucky in your wait time - I waited over 3 hours, had to take the only picture shot and paid $23 for my new license. I got my other state's license back, with 3 holes punched in it!
When I got my new car tag, again stood in line for over an hour. This state (Alabama) is not up to speed with their technology, or someone to use the equipment.....
