My photos from the Ralph Rucci spring 2009 fashion show
Update: You can see a documentary called "Ralph Rucci: A Designer and His House," on the Sundance Channel this coming Monday evening. Check your local listings. I narrated this very interesting profile and MSLO produced it.
It's no secret that I love the world of fashion and I am so happy to introduce the very talented designer, Ralph Rucci, on my television show today. Ralph's label, Chado Ralph Rucci, is sculpturally and architecturally influenced, with lines that are clean and dramatic. He creates his fabrics with European textile mills, often using his own watercolor and acrylic paintings for inspiration. A week ago, I had the great pleasure of attending his spring 2009 fashion show, held in the tent at Bryant Park in New York City. Please have a look at some of Ralph's creations. I think you'll agree that they reflect an elegant simplicity.

His creations are stunning. I look forward to seeing him on the show tomorrow. BTW, premiere week has been fantastic! Trish

Great show! Nice to see the classics...........one note on your "See All Photos in this Gallery", the word THe has two capitals.

Rucci's work IS truly elegant. Very chic. I can tell that many of these designs will fit a variety of bodies, not just a few model-like sylphs. In fact his group of models generally don't appear to be anorexic. Very nice, sophisticated wear. Bravo. This looks like it would fit right in Martha's style. Wonder which ones M bought.

Hi Martha, This was another fascinating blog. Thanks for taking us to another fashion show. I liked this one better than the last one. The young models were absolutely gorgeous and Ralph Rucci's creations were stunning. Many of the models reminded me of Alexis. Has she ever thought about being a model? She certainly would be a beautiful one. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Martha, I really enjoy your fashion photos and a few of the outfits I could see making their way into the real world and even then I wonder how would they look on real people. It would be interesting to see some of the more moderate outfits on the model contrasted with how they would look on beautiful, but more normal shaped women. I think that would help me better understand this world of fashion. Thanks for keeping me informed.

Hi Martha and Ralph!
I enjoyed very much attending the Rucci fashion show through Martha's blog. Lots of elegance mixed with fun.
Some of Rucci's evening gown fashions were reminiscent of the 30's with a touch of designer Charles James flair.
I found a website with many of Rucci's works ...

Martha, thank you for bringing the MSLO bloggers on another fabulous trip!

I visited the Phoenix Art Museum in June and was delighted to see the Ralph Rucci exhibit while it was there. Beautiful designs.

Martha, come on, you are too brilliant to think that these are great creations. Can you imagine yourself wearing one of them? hideous! even the socialite with the black glasses looks like someone who should be locked up. Please share with us, Lauren, Pucci, a designer with realism, that's what you and your persona are all about. I grew up on a 200 year old family farm, it has collections from all those years, the real "stuff", real jade, real Haviland, and on and on, this designer would not fit into that scheme, with these items one who was wearing them would be laughed out of town, or tarred and feathered.....

It is really wonderful to see substance coming back to the Martha Stewart television programming and magazine. The deep respect for and sometimes almost scholarly presentation of material, natural and culinary cultures was traditionally what was so engaging about Martha Stewart media. In addition, there's a new joie de vivre coming from Martha, a more personal and natural enthusiasm she communicates about her topics and the wonderfully talented people around her.

Hello Martha,
I have just found this blog and I think it's neat that you too have a personal blog, although you do have very interesting things to talk about
)
I love the simplicity of this blog...It shows me that you too are just a person who puts her head down on her pillow at night just like the rest of us

I'll look forward to seeing Ralph Rucci this evening as I rewind today's recorded program, with Edgar on my lap. (My one 17-year-old cat-companion, Edgar, who watches Martha faithfully each evening with me, just may have cancer, everyone, and not an enlarged thyroid (which was treatable with medicine)...please wish me well with this...we're not sure, yet...we love him soooo! =^..^= ) I'll be paying attention to Ralph's chocolate creation and am perturbed at not having the Sundance Channel, either (along with FLN)...
I agree with Jan (Erickson)...Alexis seems to be a natural at modeling! She's got the look, the poise, the poses, and last but not least, GREAT LEGS! That HAS to be hereditary!...you know, like momma, like daughter! (Laura, do you have great legs like your sister?!!...if so, well, "Lucky"!!)
I'm with Anne, too!...Martha does radiate from within this certain joie de vivre (well said, Anne!) I don't know, Martha...we have loved you before... You seem relaxed and refreshed, more down-to-earth (but you WERE, before)...I don't know - we are experiencing more of your personal side, I guess... We're connecting with you on a more personal level, and we like it, we like it!
Well, tonite, it'll be me and my beloved Edgar watching today's show (you know, the little Martha Stewart fan club residing at my address, on my street, just a little south of New York, in Western Maryland).
=^..^=

Watching Friday show and Ralph Rucci I made just
last night a similar recipe and heard you were looking for similar recipe. The designer and the clothes are specticular. I was so taken by his designs. Recipe follows.
Molten Chocolate Mini Cakes
6 oz bittersweet chocolate
1/2 c butter No margarine
3 whole eggs and 3 egg yolks
1 1/2 c powdered sugar
1/4 c all purpose flour
melt chocolate/butter in microwave cool then
add eggs and mix sugar and flour. bake 13 min
until the outside edge is set and center is still liquid. (do not overbake) 400 degrees
Martha: I take my lunch everyday at 1:00 pm to watch your show. Also love all your scrapbook ideas/items. Thanks for bringing me inspirations to a wife of 34 yrs.

Thank you sooo much for bring Ralph Rucci into the publics eye. As a long time admirer of hid timeless elegance and dedicaton to quality, its marvelous to see his vision get a touch of deserved limelight.
Ralph is dedicated to women not celebrities or the youth obsessed vision of so many magazines today that time and again leave me feeling isolated, but everytime I see his collection its a comfort; I know I'm not alone.
While I can't afford his work I can afford his Vogue patterns to create my own little gems...and that in itself makes me feel wonderful.

What a wonderful introduction to Ralphs work. Thank you. I loved watching you two make his chocolate cake, looked fantastic. I make one much like his, although I drop a chunk or two of chocolate into the center prior to baking.
Just delightful!

Hi Martha, absolutely love the show, your blog and the website. The new series is WONDERFUL and your farm is to die for. I am disappointed however that the shows available to watch on the website are taking so long to be available to watch. Previously it was within a day or two - but Wednesday has already been archived and is not available to watch yet!
Thanks for your help, Nadine. (downunder in Australia).

This message is for Cindy Bricker. I hope with all my heart that Edgar is doing better. Both of you are in my prayers. Take care. Sincerely, Jan
Posted by: Jan Erickson | September 20th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Thank you, Jan, for your kind words and prayers! I believe in prayer! Praise be to God for His wondrous works! (even in times of trial...)
Edgar was good over the weekend - seeming like nothing was wrong. He got sick last nite and wouldn't eat...he ate only a little this morning, showing no verve for appetite (I know that's not good!) He seemed lighter this morning, too, and was looking much thinner in his beautiful little face. A certain way that I looked at him looked like his eyes were sunken a little...
I've asked the Lord that if he has to go (he IS 17!), to take him gently, with no suffering.
Life!...it definitely has it's moments!!... (sniff)

Martha,
I just learned that my cable does not carry the sundance channel. As you can imagine, I am very upset that I cannot watch tonight's documentary on Ralph Rucci. I was hoping to see some of his older designs on tonights show because I felt he had a gift for designing similar to the greatest designer, Charles James.
Would you have any suggestions or could you have it available on your blog for those who cannot watch it.
Sincerely,
Gloria Brown

Thank you for showcasing the exquisite designs and workmanship of Ralph Rucci. I love that he is more of an artisan than any other American designer. Please continue to have him visit with you and especially please show the techniques used in his atelier. I love that his clothes are timeless and elegant! Perhaps you could do a show where he could exhibit the line of patterns he does with Vogue and talk a bit about sewing? I would be in heaven if you did that!
I have recorded both his shows with you onto a "Martha Fashion DVD". Seeing the techniques used by Rucci was probably the best TV for me ever! My DVD also includes your visit with Valentino and Lesage, etc. Unfortunatly, I lost the Chanel show when my DVR seized or it would be on the DVD as well. I am hoping that someday you will rerun the Chanel show in it's entirety!
