Autumn begins to fall at the farm
Well, summer is definitely over and things are changing rapidly in the landscape. We've had a cold snap in the Northeast and that means leaves are turning colors and are dropping to the ground. As sad as it is to say goodbye to summer, autumn is really an exciting and very beautiful time. Please enjoy these views taken at my farm yesterday.

I'm jealous. But may not be so when your snow is flying and we're watching our pansies' sweet little faces greeting the Texas sun.
No, I'll be jealous then too. No snow angels to make here, no crunch of a winter's day hush beneath my boots. No thrill of a crocus' final triumph in spring.
Yeah, I'm jealous. Have fun with your gorgeous leaves!

Your photographs are beautiful!

Your photos are beautiful...the horses look like they are pretty happy out there...Fall has always been my favorite time of the year...from the time I was very young. I used to write poetry years ago about the fall season. I wish I had some of those poems now.
We are enjoying the colors here as well. Our trees are looking pretty bare though compared to yours. Winter is coming!
Enjoy your week!

What gorgeous photographs...such a luxury to live in a beautiful surrounding like that!
We're supposed to have rain here tomorrow so I'm hoping to find some lovely photos here and there after the rain.
Jealous of your peonies. We haven't got a frost where I live so peonies don't bloom well here. Not at all like when I lived in Omaha, Nebraska where my peonies were just magnificent!
Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous!!! My husband is from the east coast and he says he misses the changing of the seasons in fall the most--I can see why! We are in Southern California and don't get these kinds of scenes. Thank you for sharing.

These are fully 'autumn welcome pictures'. And I like it, because we need to be happy today with things given to us. Not tomorrow - God knows what will be tomorrow...

The autumn is a beautiful time of the yaer, although I always feel a bit sad to see the summer fade away!

Everything on your property is gorgeous! But you need the addition of a koi pond to complete the setting!

There is nothing like fall! A bittersweet time of nature giving its most glorious last hurrah!
During my busy week when my days must be spent indoors, I get a peacefulness seeing your lovely farm!
Thanks, Martha!

Martha, your photos are Magnificent! Our ancestors orignated from New York and when I see your pictures I have to say, Wow, your farm is so much like our farm here in Wisconsin. I'm beginning to understand the views and ideas our family brought with them from New York. Thanks for putting your pictures of your farm on your blog. I have never been to New York, so I really enjoy looking at your pictures!

Dear Martha,
Your pictures are always so professional. Always love looking at them but sometimes a picture just isn't enough...I want to see it for real!!!

WOW! My daughter would love to see these pics ... beautiful scenery but more importantly beautiful horses!

Martha,
Glancing up at the sky is my picture of choice. Just like your storm in New York pictures, the picture makes me think you could really enjoy just stretching out on a hay stack and watching the clouds.
Isn't it fun.

Thank you so much for these great pictures; I just love them especially the tree with the orange leaves! I miss seeing the leaves turn color and Fall has always been my favorite time of year. Not here in Florida but when I lived in Michigan. BTW, your Knot garden is gorgeous; thanks for the tour on the show yesterday.
I didn't see any fish in the brook but the flat rocky formation in the water has an image of a face on it. Did you notice? Looking at it, the right "eye" is higher than the left eye.
I didn't know those knobby things were called bracket fungi. I have seen them before but never knew what they were which makes me wonder, how much did I know before I “discovered” Martha Stewart! It’s always good to learn new things from your blog so I’m really glad that you have one. Trish

The signs of summer lost are all around now, and sometimes the beauty is inescapable. Here's a photo of the low-angled sun beaming through one of my broken barn windows, back-lighting blackberry canes and leaves like shards of stained glass. Spiderwebs glow like anchored halos.

Magnificent colors of Autumn are captured in your lovely photos. Your apple tree is gorgeous!
Here in Vancouver we have to wait until much later in the season to see our japanese maples change color...we have two lovely large ones which are now at least 28 years old...love how old and elegant they are looking!
Enjoy all the beautiful Fall days...always a fantastic season with much to feast our eyes upon.

u have a great eye, nice bounty of apples, we had tremendous luck with peaches this year with minimal herbicides and pesticides, beautiful Atlas cedar, think u need a rare conifer garden, tons of beauty then throughout the year, try to take a peak at ur blog daily, so enjoyable, tks M

You captured autumn's homecoming wonderfully! I always do at least one big nature walk with my camera to record my favorite time of year. I have to wait a little bit longer here in Oklahoma, but the colors are worth it. Have a wonderful day Martha!

Martha,
Thank you for the segment you did on blogging recently. I have been working hard on a new blog that follows my creative pursuits. As you said it would be, it is so much fun! I was humbled to receive 100 visits in the first day and a half! If you're interested, my blog is http://www.createstudio.blogspot.com. I just posted about how to manage our time so that we will have opportunities to create... very fitting since there are only 12 weeks until Christmas! Thank you again for the inspiration.

Martha, Martha, Martha...these pictures make my heart pitter-patter! They are absolutely beautiful (seriously!) Nature is definitely the drum that I march to!
We had a similar day yesterday, here in Western Maryland. Autummn has indeed arrived at your farm! We're having the chilliness (we're having to dress a little warmer [with "shoes-n-socks", versus just sandals] and some of the house windows now have to be shut) but our color show hasn't begun as of yet. I'm really having now to beat the clock when I get home from my business in the evening, to get grass mowed before dark (which is now around 7:00pm!)
Your old apple tree DID have a trusty yield, didn't it?...it'll provide many-a-treat for your horses - deer, too! (Maybe deer aren't welcome...I know, I know...they can be pesky sometimes...)
I had to chuckle, too...all those peonies will need to have their spent leaves trimmed off...someone will get a workout doing that task!
For my fellow blogger-friend Nan Ashby (from yesterday's post)...I loved your purple martin story! My mind easily paints pictures as I read others' remarks and comments, and I was just delighted - I was there with you, as I read!
Martha, I l-o-v-e- your blog! - LOOK AT ME! - I'm a quiet, private person, and look what pours out of me here each day!
Many blessings, everyone!

Hi Martha, Thanks so much for more gorgeous photos from your beautiful, ever changing farm. Autumn is a beautiful time of the year and these photos really capture the beautiful changes in your landscape. I have only been to New York and New England once and that was back in the early 80's. I have always wanted to see this area during the autumn season and seeing your photos of your farm certainly provides that opportunity. Like Trish, I also enjoyed the tour of your knot garden on yesterday's show. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful farm with all of us. Jan

Hi Martha-
There is an entry above about someone's peony flowers not as great due to lack of frost. I gave my grandmother, who was from Missouri, a peony plant in California and she told me that she would take care of the lack of frost problem. She would throw water with ice cubes on the plant at the right time. It worked, she had a pretty peony!

I have always wanted to come to your area of the country in the fall. We are beginning to see the trees change here. I live about 30 min. from the south gate to Yosemite Park. The pacific dogwoods are beginning to turn. They have a salmon pink color.
Thank you for all that you share.

It looks beautiful with the leaves starting to turn orange. You'll have to keep us updated with the changes over time! I love the weather here in California but I wish we could feel a little more of the changing of seasons! We are supposed to get rain here in Silicon Valley tonight...it hasn't rained here since April so I'm looking forward to it!

Martha, As much as I love our San Diego sun, I am jealous of your colorful leaves! I have this idea that I will somehow find a pile of colorful leaves and take several pictures of me tossing them to the ground. Then I want to make a fall quilted wall hanging which I will do with colorful needle felting. Then I will quilt "wind blowing" lines all over it. I think even you would like the art piece that is stirring around in my mind. That's why I need your New England leaves!

for the last couple years we haven't seen many honeybees, mostly bumble bees. This summer and up to 2 weeks ago we are seeing honey bees again! most neighbors are now using natural lawn care products and I wonder if that is making an impact in our area getting them back.
Your home is lovely!

The changing colors on your trees are enchanting. How I wish I could see this magical time of the year. But, alas, I do live in the desert southwest. It does have a beauty all its own though. Our mountains are gorgeous. And in the spring, all the poppies sprout as do the cacti. Have a beautiful Fall, Martha.

Hi Martha,
I know what you mean!
My property is taking on an entirely new hue and it is effecting the interior of my home. As the sun sets the gold of my trees is reflected through the french doors into my living room. It is magnificent!
As for the "boys" riding takes a fun turn as slow summer canters turn into crisp hand gallops that include a few well meaning bucks.
There is nothing like fall!
Enjoy!

oh what a beautiful scene! I long for the changes of autumn. They are much more subtle here in the desert with the exception of lower temperatures which have finally arrived.

Your horses are such a beauty. This might be a stupid question but hey- I just woke up and still haven't had coffee. Do your horses change colors as the season change? Just curious - Back in the philippines we had pale white cattle that turns to a grayish color during the summer time.
