You're a busy woman, Martha, and it's inspiring to know that part of your "busy-ness" is spent helping others who have bigger problems than we will ever see. Kudos to you, and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

This was a very moving and wonderful segment on your show yesterday. I too applaud all who are involved with Citymeals-on-wheels and their success in raising 1.5 million dollars. Fantastic!

Congratulations to you for being honored for your contribution to geriatric care and I also just read that you will soon be inducted into the American Society of Magazine Editors' Hall of Fame. How great is that! I am so proud to be one of your followers! Trish

Looks like a terrific event for a great cause. What a wonderful thing it is to do for other people. Perhaps you'd like to see how us women much less famous spend a similar amount of time together? I'll with a group of equally terrific women the weekend of Dec 6-7 at a Girl Scout camp outside of St. Louis, running an event for them to thank them and recognize them for all their volunteer efforts to provide leadership skills for girls who I hope someday will be doing just what you and others at your event are doing!! We will be on a shoestring budget and not dressed as nicely since we'll be at camp, but it will be fun.

Thanks again for sharing all of the variety of posts on your blog. I usually never comment, but I do enjoy catching up on all the events and everyday happenings going on in Martha Land!

Bravo to Citymeals on Wheels for making the lives of New Yorkers brighter each day. A good segment on this organization.Raising 1.5 million dollars right now with all that has happened recently is no easy feat, good work to all at Citymeals.
Martha next comes ending world hunger.

Happy Thanksgiving to you.

What a great role model you are. I applaud your sincerity in giving back to the community and helping those in need, especially the elderly. Keep up the good work.

I think it's wonderful that NYC has such a program in it's large city! In coming from a smaller town, I have (ignorantly) viewed larger cities as being impersonal with the mind-set of survival of the fittest. My heart was warmed yesterday, watching this segment of your show, and learning of the feelings of responsibility that some have taken to initiate and perpetuate this valuable program. May God bless them! The dear gentleman shown yesterday who was 90+, who made his daily pilgrimage (down four flights of stairs, or so [with his cane!]) for his newspaper - my heart just ached for him, as he not only wanted a daily meal, but human companionship, too...bless his dear heart!

We ALL have too much! We're considered rich (in retrospect to the whole world) if we have a roof over our heads, with some spare change laying around unaccounted for. It IS better to give than receive, and if we all gave just a teeny-tiny bit of ourselves (some spare change in that red kettle this Christmas, clothes we no longer wear, etc), what would it hurt?!!

My heart fills up, Martha, when I see your philanthropic endeavors that have come to fruition. May the Lord richly bless you as well for your generosity!
