Snoop Dogg and I make Mom's mashed potatoes
I have to say that my life is very interesting and also kind of weird. I’m so fortunate in that I get to meet fascinating people. One day I’m presenting Maya Angelou with a Living Legend award and then I fly off to Miami and attend a Victoria’s Secret fashion show. And then yesterday, the multi-platinum rap artist, Snoop Dogg, appeared on my television show and taught me some of his very own language called Snoop-guistics. He and his posse add ‘izzles’ onto the ends of words. It’s kind of a code, or a way of communicating so that others won’t know what they’re talking about. Example: fo shizzle is how they say, for sure. Snoop Dogg also shared –
Crack-a-lackin – means get something poppin
Chuuuch – means take God everywhere you go and everything will be all right
All hood – means good
Ball til ya fall – get as much money as you can before you die
Snoop Dogg is about to start the second season of his reality TV show, Father Hood on November 30th and he also wanted to share his Five Tips for Fatherhood.
1 – Know when to lie to your kids
2 – Know when to be mean and know when to be a friend
3 – Always stay in control
4 – Serve them juice but hold the gin
5 – When the kids give you attitude, pop ‘em like it’s hot
Bottom line – Keep your children respectful of their elders.
Here I am making Mom's mash potatoes with Snoop (Part 1 of 2)
Snoop Dogg on Fatherhood
Snoop Dog Chats with me about Snoop-guistics
Snoop give me 5 words I must know!

Martha, yesterday show with Snoop Dogg was confusing to me. Is this the new language for our teens? Hey, but I loved your mothers mashed potatoes.,Groovy!

I haven't laughed this hard in about FOREVER.
Another reason why I love Martha. She never ceases to amaze me.
THIS IS GREAT!

You're so gangsta now.

i agree with Matt - i laughed myself silly over the video. Snoop is potentially one of the last people i'd expect on Martha's show. thanks for making it a great episode!

I could never catch on to the language although I tried to use 'fo shizzle'; I wrote 'for shizzle' instead. I can't text either with all the abbreviations but what the heck, I thought Snoop Dogg was a fun guest and a real nice person and he made me laugh. Laughing is a good thing! Trish
P. S. I liked your sweater; the color was great on you.

I was in a meeting on healthcare reform in 2009.
I missed the show so thank you for the video. So fun! I like the Snoop rules for kids. I have to catch his second season. He is interesting to me. Creative! On today's show about cooking the Thanksgiving Turkey -- you were not keen on going untraditional for your T-Day pumpkin pie. I made the Everyday Food pies from the October issue. The combination of chocolate Cookie dough and pumpkin works very well. I served it for a business lunch of two colleagues ---one visiting from Australia observing our national elections. I discovered last Thanksgiving when in Australia observing their national elections that they do not sell pumpkin pies rather they sell roasted pumpkin in their bakeries. I intend to serve this new recipe for Christmas and do a traditional apple and a traditional pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. I understand your hesitancy. Chocolate works really well for the Christmas/New Years Season. I believe it is about expectations, tradition, and the weather. The winter is colder at the end of the year and darker than our truly fall and truly American Thanksgiving Holiday. I am enjoying all the recipes from both Living and Everyday Food including the special holiday edition of Living. I have not decided on which craft project to attempt from that particular Special Holiday edition.

I don't care for rap personally, but I think it's interesting how well he has marketed himself - everyone knows his name even if they are not familiar with his music. Just the other day we were watching a Monk episode (tv show) and Snoop Dog was featured in it. Too funny.

...your dear mother, Martha...she would've gotten a chuckle out of this segment, I feel certain! When Snoop (Dogg) added some "extra" ingredients, I tho't "ugh ohhh!", but you maintained beautifully and were a good sport. (I was surprised that you boil the potatoes BEFORE you peel them!...interesting!)
I've got to say that you and these rappers - you always have such chemistry on the show! I LOVE it! It is always so much fun! I enjoy the ebonics lessons, too! I used to get them while working in the corporate world (believe it, or not!), so I was able to pick up a few new pointers yesterday, as well! [giggle]
My faithful Edgar =^..^= still watches you in the evenings with me, Martha...he's 17+, and has failed something awful this year! In cat years he's around 84, based on his age/weight class. His days are pitifully numbered - you can just see it. He sends his love today!
And I love you too!

This really had me laughing. I love how Martha can really have fun with everyone and make anyone feel welcome and like her friend! Enjoyable to watch!
The mash potatoes looked great, I bet Martha's Thanksgiving will be great this year!

Martha:
Thanks for always providing interesting, educational and super entertaining shows. I particularly loved seeing Snoop this week; the episode reminded me of Diddy's appearance in the first season!
Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm in my late 20s and to address Betsy's comment, this lingo has been around for some time. I'm guilty of saying fo shizzle and adding dizzle onto so many words for the past two or three years.
If you're not sure what certain lingo means you can likely find it on Urbandiction(dot)com as well as the original origin.
I have to say I have not laughed so hard out loud in a long time. Not only that, I called a few of my besties after the show and said "You have to watch this! Martha said fo shizzle!" It was great and one of my favorite shows ever!

Thanks for posting videos from the show - what a riot! I'm sorry I missed the actual episode. Snoop was a great guest!

Hi Martha & Snoop Dog,
Wondering if the Snoop can carve out a new word for the word "chisel" or for that matter, "hammer"! This is fun! Actually the show has been very warm, funny and real of late. I've really enjoyed the ad-lib effect. It comes across with much heart and sets a mark for curiosity from (us) the viewers...what is she doing???:)
Posted by: tinay | November 19th, 2008 at 7:45 am
I thought this was hysterical - even if I couldn't understand a word he said! This was quite a meeting of the minds!
I recently made Big Martha's potatoes for the first time. They are very rich!

Oh, and least I forget your Moms mashed potatoes! I miss her, too, and how great it is to see her live on with the show as well as in our hearts...and stomachs! Betcha those mashed would be excellent w/ her MEATLOAF!!!Got any good Big Martha Tuna Recipes??? Thanks.

watching these hilarious vids, I feel like I am in one of my alternate universe situations. This was BRILLIANT! Martha, I never, ever, get tired of your good humor, good sportsmanship, and endless hints, tips and recipes. Snoop Dogg. Now I've seen it all. What will you do next!?

Hi Martha, Yes, you definitely do have a very interesting and totally fascinating life! That's probably what draws me to you the most. We never know what to expect and that's what makes everything you do so much fun! Your TV show, your Sirius radio channel, your fabulous blog, etc. are so much fun to watch, listen to and read. You brighten my day everyday! Thanks so much for all that you do. You are by far the best! Jan

Nov. 19th Martha said she wished she knew how to make plastic wrap non-static...solution: store it in the freezer...it works.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks Cynthia Jensen for the plastic wrap tip. I never thought about putting it in the freezer but I will now! Trish

Today, you were telling people what wine goes well with Thanksgiving dinner. You forgot champagne, which is wonderful but also you should try a really good, quality gevurtztraminer (not sure about the spelling). It is a dry white but with a hint of spice. Try it, I think you'll like it.

I needed a little pick-me-up tonight and, boy, did this ever do it! You two were awesome together! I absolutely have to make your Mom's mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving - they look so delicious.
Posted by: Gigi | November 19th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Gosh, this reminds me of an Ambien-induced dream...ha! Too cool. You two are an odd couple, but a cool one!!

On your show today you and Sara were pounding turkey breasts and you mentioned you wish they would make a plastic wrap that does not cling to itself. Have you ever tried Glad Press & Seal? It is absolutely wonderful, and does not cling to itself until you actually press it together. If you cannot find it, I will be glad to send you a roll, you will never go back to any other plastic wrap.

Hi Martha--
You said yourself exactly what I posted the other day--Maya Angelou to Juicy Couture--quite a stretch! But I didn't call your life "weird."
Perhaps that's not a bad description, though.
I haven't had a chance to check out the Snoop Dog segments yet, but I'm sure they're COOL and you ROCK!
All this stuff keeps you young and flexible!! That's a good thing!

Martha - I cannot watch your whole hour every day on Fox in Boston at 10:00, but look forward to catching your show on FNL network at 8:00 every night. What has happened? Your show has not been on for the last two weeks. Please help me find your show - Emeril is good, BUT 2 hrs. is a bit much!!!! Please e-mail me where I can find you other than Fox in the morning. Thank you so much.

so so cute. Martha I thought you were stiffer than to be able to handle Snoop. You are alright and so is he!!!
Posted by: mary r | November 22nd, 2008 at 4:33 pm
I live in Sweden so I don't get to see your shows when it airs. I just watched the Snoop Dogg portion on YouTube and I have to say that Martha, you're just WAY TOO CUTE!
I think it's fantastic that you have guests like Snoop Dogg on your show. Your other guests are fabulous too. But never in a million years would I imagine Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg making mashed potatoes together.
Stay awesome Martha!

I saw Keith Olberman on the show the other day. He is much shorter and fatter than he looks on MSNBC.

The wonders of hosting a cooking segment never cease to amaze! I think it's wonderful to see your show offering a forum to everyone in the kitchen. There's nothing better than cooking a meal together to learn about a person. Thanks for bringing on Snoop Dog. I can't wait to see who's on your show next!
