Chow Chow puppy update!
So many of you have been asking about my decision for a new chow puppy and I know I said I would announce my choice of one of Paw Paw’s grandsons. I spent a good deal of time with that litter, and I was leaning strongly towards little Khan. Adopting any living creature is a huge responsibility and for a variety of reasons, which are just too complicated to explain, I never ended up taking possession of that particular puppy. Instead, I decided to wait for another litter and I think things are right this time.
We’re all expecting Genghis Khan, another grandson of Paw Paw’s, to be conquering his new territory in my home soon, with great charm and prowess. I’m also confident that Sharkey and Francesca will be enamored with him. I’d love to share these new photos with you of this seven-week old litter that Karen of Pizzazz Chow in Pennsylvania sent me. Genghis Khan is very cute and square and he definitely looks like Paw Paw’s grandson. And, by the way, Karen has told me that little Khan is very happy in his new home, where he lives with Daisy, a sweet fourteen-year-old chow chow.

That is one adorable puppy, Martha!
Congrats on your choice!

Oh my goodness! here I am a another sleepless night(in the burb's of Seattle)up reading. I stopped to take a break and check my blog and saw your post about a new puppy-what a sweetheart Genghis Kahn is! I am looking forward to watching this little guy grow up-and I know Sharkey and Francesca will adore him! How fun Martha!

I would just like to let everyone know that Kahn, the puppy from the previous litter, is doing well in his new home. He is with a very nice couple and he has Daisy, a 14 year old chow chow as a companion and I am told they are getting along very well. As for Genghis Kahn, he is a happy little guy and he is going to the veterinarian tomorrow for his wellness check up.

He exudes happiness. I am curious why you chose a male. I give a nod to the females, if I can. Mostly because the male beagles and labs in my past have too often marked their territory , if you know what I mean.

The best is yet to come!
Speaking of pets and 'looking forwards to,' could an update on the pet publication be noted.
My animal community speaks of it from time to time. In fact my final entry to a blog which talks to you about animals, addresses their inquiries ------ ". . . voted, then slated to be new MSLO pet publication."
I have completely enjoyed dedicating animal kingdom conversation to you in this blog. I understand you love animals and I am happy to promote this point.
Our year long blog 'Talking to Martha' leaves its intention at your door here with a thank you for your commitment to animals:

Excellent, a great dog for your estate. He will become a welcome fixture to all your photos. Not that two other important fixtures will be pictured less......
Now how about those cats? How are they going to deal with another fur ball on the move?

Wonderful choice. Wish it was possible to have a dog here at my home. We live on "The Moosehead Trail"Too much traffic. Enjoy ! !

Genghis Khan will no doubt conquer your heart! He's a cutie!

...if ANYONE should know her Chows, it would be YOU, Martha! Gee whiz, I've got to give you kudos for holding off bringing home a replacement puppy and doing your research. I guess many of us would just simply take the plunge, only to discover a not-so-good match afterward! Little Genghis Khan...we'll definitely enjoy seeing him on the show and seeing how he grows. So he gets along well (already!) with Francesca and Sharkey?!!...alrightey then, you have THAT out of the way, don't you?!!
I really comprehend the individualism of animals/pets. I was telling my husband last nite how our one cat, Mandy =^..^=, is suuuuch a little person! (She doesn't watch your show, like Edgar =^..^=, 'cause she's toooooo bussssy! Edgar =^..^= is the little snugglebunny - she's not - I don't mention her much, but...) We really communicate with each other! I talk ALL the time to my cats and I really (want to) believe they understand me! No two are alike in all my experience.
Yeah, having a good fit of the four-legged kind IS essential to a happy household!
=^..^=

Off topic, but I thought you would be interested in these wooden gift tags. I was browsing online (inspired by the NYTimes style section) and thought they'd be perfect for you! http://bellocchio.com/catalogue/papeterie/woodentags/

Little Genghis Khan looks adorable as does his sisters. Can't wait to see him, Francesca and Sharkey together.
Even though little Khan and his two brothers weren't the right match for you, isn't it wonderful to know that other families out there will be able to share in the gorgeous elegance of Paw Paw's grandchildren as well? That's a GREAT thing!

What beautiful babies....I miss my chows....They are so regal and handsome and such big bears...

Hi Martha, I thought little Khan was cute, but this little guy is absolutely adorable! He looks great at 7 weeks old and should be able to handle both Francesca and Sharkey! Can't wait until you bring him home and add him to your fantastic menagerie! I know that magnificent Paw Paw is very proud of his newest grandson! Thanks so very much for sharing. Jan

He's a little lovebug Martha so precious. There is no cuter puppy then a chow chow puppy, mine were so adorable and so have all of yours in the past.
Thank you for the update on your new baby, I hope you get the female one from the other litter too that you told me about on Ask Martha radio a few weeks back.. Then you will have your two chows and your two frenchies. Chows rule though lol!
Once you have a chow chow back in your home all will truly be home sweet home again you know it Martha. Once you have a chow you gotta have them they capture your heart don't they!
Mrs. Bosley chow just had her Christmas photo taken her 13th year and she wasn't thrilled so no Santa hat this year lol! I will send you a pix of her so sweet.
Lucky yo and lucky Karen for she raises these precious puppies I couldn't part with them I'd want to keep them all.

Yeah! Martha's going to have a Chow Chow again. What a regal, stout little fella he is! His eyes are so wise looking even at 7 weeks. Such a wonderfully different breed of dog. So self-contained. Truly happy for you! Really appreciate hearing the news. Can't wait to see pictures of you together again with a Chow. Thanks for the smiles Martha.

The most adorable puppy. I just want to squish him or eat him up, can't decide (neither of which I'd do, of course). SO CUTE AND POOFY!

Oh my God, Martha, is he toooooooo cute! Have a lovely weekend. Warmly, Cathy ^..^
Posted by: Cathy Santarsiero | December 5th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
Oh my god, SO ADORABLE! My mother raised chow chows when I was younger and up until I was 19 or so, I'd always had one as a pet; I even had a pair named (check this out) Chaka and Khan. Absolutely adored them - gorgeous, gorgeous dogs, and I was devastated when they died of old age a few weeks of each other.
By some mysterious fluke, I now have chihuahuas. I love them... but I miss my chow chows desperately. The plan is to get at least one when I move into a home with a large backyard. At LEAST one.

he has the cutest face! i can already tell he has lots of personality.
Posted by: Jennifer | December 6th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Martha,
"Genghis Kahn" doesn't look real! What a beautiful pup! I can see Paw Paw in him!
Being the only male in the litter, I guess he was meant for you! I do hope you get a the second girl Chow too. More than one I say!
Give Sharkey and Francesca extra kisses and hugs, so their "noses" won't be out of joint! LOL Though I know they will love their new playmate!
That pup is just way too cute! Much happiness and love for years to come with him.

Martha, what a beautiful puppy. I've always loved Chows. Dogs bring such happiness to a home. I have a Miniature Schnauzer Madeline, she thinks she human. Can't imagine my life without her. Thanks for sharing your new baby.

Martha,
I am so happy for you and Paw Paw would be too!
I am a big animal person, I have two shelties (brothers) and two german shepherds (sisters) with three cats. Makes life fun. The best to you always.

Doesn't everyone love puppies? His face is precious...the contentment and happpiness!
Posted by: Candylei | December 12th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
What a cutie. I am so thrilled that you have chosen another Chow Chow. I have had Chows all of my life and presently have a seven year old black chow named RAVEN. I also have my 9-month old grand-puppy Connery (Westie) while my daughter finishes law school. Again congrats. Little Khan is soooo adorable.
Posted by: Toni Melvin Whitaker | December 13th, 2008 at 9:51 am
Martha,
Genghis is such an adorable chowlet!! It's just amazing how these chows are able to wrap us around their paws--and it must be even a stronger bond for you since he's Paw Paw's grandson.
I commend you for waiting until you found the "right" chow baby to bring home. After losing Chelsea, my 15 1/2 year old chow, last January, I've looked at a few puppies but they just weren't the right ones for me yet. But, I can't wait to hear more about the pup you choose and watch him grow.
Thanks for sharing all of this on your website. It really means a lot to us!

This is a darling puppy, bugt I have to agree with the previous comment, that I alway prefer females...they are lower maintainces and they don't need to mark their territory indoors or out....I just think females for the most part are sweeter and more loving....males can be possessive and more protective.
It's hard to find a cuter puppy than a chow or a pomeranian...but Norweign Elkhound puppys are very adorable too. Good luck with the new puppy. We have a 7 month old American Bulldog puppy and she is a challenge....but I know this is just part of being a puppy....:)

Little Genghis Khan is certainly cute. He looks like Paw Paw. I look forward to hearing more about him and seeing him as well as Francesca and Sharkey frolic together.

Born in '59 & not very computer literate. My first grader (now 24) would come home from school & tell me how she learned to click a mouse. My fourth grader (now 19) was ecstatic about the power point project she produced. Needless to say, both become frustrated attempting to teach mom. I just learned about "blogs" on your program; excellent segment & very inspiring. Recently sold my house & have had to farm out my two collies, until I find a new property. Looking at your furry, family counterparts helps eases the pain that I feel being separated from mine. Thank-You Martha for being such a great teacher & driven. From one of your million - #1 fans.
