We too lost our beautiful dog during a kennel accident (seven dogs total were lost) and, in lieu of doing what everyone said, “Get another dog,” we decided to turn our home into Paws Awhile Doggy Cottage. Our house was already dog friendly (scratched floors, fenced in yard, etc.) and . . . the neighborhood skunk desperately missed doing the tango with our Shepard. So a small business was born. We took in one dog at a time and within months, had eleven loving customers. (One of whom loved the tango too.) Their folks were delighted and one small business led to the next one. I started to paint my customers and now upload them onto ornaments & magnets, so out of tragedy, came the next phase of my life. We still miss Wendy but love each and every visiting pooch and I feel lucky to be an adored aunty of a variety of dogs.

I stopped back by here to read again after looking at the kitties (from October) - I was so sad for you and Karen and all affected when this happened back in the Spring - I'm wondering if you are going to consider adopting another Chow anytime soon? My mother had a Chow mix who was the most calm dog I've ever met. She sure had her own personality - she was a tad bit obsessed with cats which wasn't too calm but she will be missed for a long time - she cracked me up - was so funny. I know you feel the same about your companion animals. I hope you do consider getting a Chow again. I have saved some pics from years ago of you and the Chow. It was a fall/autumn picture and I loved it - such pretty dogs! Thinking of you ..... still.

REQUEST--------

Can anyone report on how Karen and Tim the driver are doing? I have a giant card on UNLEASHED MOUTH with many names of well wishers perpetually coming in so he won't be forgotten in healing as time goes on.

We continue to extend personal narrative here and by phone to Karen. I would personally be very interested in hearing how you are, Karen.

If anyone would like to help post names to Tim's card, we would LOVE participation!

Thank you,

.

Dear Karen,

We will all be here for you, I'm sure, with continuous empathy and ongoing prayers for your peace of heart.

As good and caring as we may be, sometimes we witness more than what goes with our goodness. It is difficult to walk tall through these times, but when the hour is right, we find understanding, and step forward empowered.

Best,
Andrea and the Weimaraners

This is the very first time I have looked at all the comments on Martha's blog about the dogs, the fire/explosion and the propane truck driver, Timothy and the kennel. It is almost 2am and yet again, almost 6 weeks later, I am sitting here crying. This was a tragedy for everyone involved. I am truly devastated over this and I don't know if I will ever be the same anymore. But, I do want everyone to know that there were so many wonderful people here that day to try to help all of us in any way they could. The fireman, the policemen, the veterinarians, the vet techs, neighbors, friends, relatives, the CART team, the Fish and Game guys and all the other people that came to help. To all of them, I thank them for being thoughtful caring people. I thank them for dropping everything they were doing that day to come to help all of us. We would have been lost without their efforts. This was and is a devasting event that happened. It affected many people and animals. Words cannot describe the heaviness in our hearts. It is the positive comments and support that keeps us all going. I know it is not enough and they are only two little words but from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

I was so sorry to hear of the explosion. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, those injured or those who suffered a loss of some kind.

About 15 months ago I rescued a Chow from a drug house; her name is Yoshi. She is black with some red coat, blue tongued, and has such a gentle spirit. I have taken care of her needs including meds, having her spayed and have provided a loving shelter for her.

Now, I need to find a good home for her. I was wondering if anyone involved in this tragedy would want to adopt Yoshi as their new found friend and family member. My email is as stated above and you may contact me at
(256) 721-9742.

Thank you and God bless.
