My book signing at Macy's in St. Louis
Update: I just hit 40,000 followers on Twitter!
Last Friday, a group of us from the company, including Francesca and Sharkey, flew to St. Louis, Misouri for business reasons. One of our stops was at Macy’s West County Center for yet, another book signing for the best selling Martha Stewart’s Cooking School book. Once again, there was an enormous turnout and wouldn’t you know it, Francesca and Sharkey practically stole the show! Sharing the lime light with those two is getting to be a challenge. Now that they have their own blog, they think the world is their oyster!

Hi Martha and Happy Birthday Laura! I hope you have a fun day filled with surprises!
It sure looks like Francesca and Sharkey are the stars of this book signing show. They are so well-behaved - just look at them sitting on the desk and then getting their picture taken with everyone! My dogs never sat still for a minute. The Daily Wag is the cutest blog too. I will be reading it but I don't have any pets anymore that can enjoy it with me. Boo hoo! But it will be fun anyway.
That Macy's in St. Louis is gorgeous and your displays are so nice. I have to say not all stores are the same and St. Louis should be proud. Thanks for your super photos. Trish

Martha,
So did you get to take Francesca and Sharkey on a bathroom break and/or did they just stay there quietly chewing on pig ears?
Posted by: Margie | March 4th, 2009 at 4:39 am
Do you take the children with you all the time when you travel?
Posted by: Arlene | March 4th, 2009 at 5:48 am
Francesca and Sharkey sure eat up the attention from your fans
Looks like the next MSLO book might have to be authored by the two of them! LOL!

To answer Margie's question - The Frenchies take many walks outdoors when we travel like this and they really like all the excitement.
And to Arlene - No, the dogs do not travel with me all the time, just on special occasions. When I'm not at home, they are very well cared for.

hi martha, your pups sure enjoy the attention. are they good travelers? are they ever cranky with strangers or get sick on the trips? they are quite adorable.

Gee whiz, Martha - you simply should've had an inked stamp pad at your signing table, so the girls could 'sign' books alongside you! [giggle] I'm not quite sure who the celebrity was at the book signing - you, or the 'kids'! I could just squeeze these little cutiepies 'til they popped! (please note: 'popped', being spelled with double p's [not o's]) I tend to gravitate towards Sharkey in fondness of her buff-colored fur, but poor little Francesca - she is sooo black, that you can't see her precious little face in the photos. Her French is impeccable, though, and I learned yesterday on their blog that Sharkey came from my native Maryland!...how cool is that?!! You go, Sharkeygirl! ^..^
(In switching gears...) This particular Macy's doesn't look at all like our store - it looks very large and grande and wide open. The staff looks top-notch - very professional! I do notice in our local store that a certain dress code is required, to contribute a certain look and aura to the overall shopping experience. I actually try to NOT shop, as, being a fairly new business owner, I'm poor! [half fact/half fiction] Our household has one income basically, and when I'm in Macy's Martha-departments, I want I want I want I want...
Not intending to steal Trish's thunder from her post today, I do want to also wish Laura a happyhappy birthday today while I'm here! (I had no idea...Trish, how'd you know?!!...[grin]) Laura, you are an integral part to what goes on behind the scenes, and please know I appreciate you and consider you a kindred spirit just as much as Martha.
I have meant to mention this week that the beloved American Robin has arrived and returned as springtime's herald. They're not on the ground just yet but remain up in the trees. These are my absolute most favorite spring/summertime birds - common, yes, but happy little harbingers full of cheer. The house wren ('jenny') and gray catbird rank second - they usually make themselves manifest in early May.
(...just needed to share my joy, that's all!...)

Hi Martha, You, Francesca, Sharkey, your fans and the employees at Macy's in St. Louis sure look like you had a marvelous day during your book signing. Those girls are the most sociable dogs I think I have ever seen. My little guy loves everyone, but to be held and petted by so many in just a few hours is really fantastic. Kudos to Francesca and Sharkey! The St. Louis Macy's sure is gorgeous. The ones in my area are pretty cool, too, but not as large. I had no idea it was Laura's birthday today. Have a great day, Laura! Stay wam everyone. Jan

Any chance of a Kansas City visit? Where would it be posted in the event that Martha can make it? Thank you!

The Macy's store has a very beautiful display set up. The dogs really are entertaining; looks like everyone had a good time with them. Are they spoiled or what?

To Martha’s readers:
Cindy Bricker wondered how I knew when Laura’s birthday was, so if Martha doesn’t mind posting this, this is how I knew. Once upon a time, Martha published her Calendar of events in the Martha Stewart Living magazine. The subtitle was Projects, People, and Events on Martha’s Schedule for the month. It was kind of like the yearly calendars they publish now except with much more information, and I know some of you already know this. Everyone loved it too.
Anyway, Martha listed many of her friend’s as well as family member’s birthdays and Laura’s is listed on March 4th. On the same day in the year 2003, Martha also noted that she needed to update her favorite restaurant list with phone numbers and she went to a corned-beef dinner party in London on the 17th. Cool, huh? Maybe if we all ask nicely, she might bring her Calendar back and still keep From My Home to Yours and Gentle Reminders. Please Martha! Trish

Your line at Macy's looks so lovely, wish we lived closer. I will have to hop on line and see what's shown. I also spotted your carpet tiles in a Canadian design mag here and I love the stripes! Best of luck with all...have you heard of Indian Nidra sleep treatments? I posted about my first experience today and it's dreamy! http://www.snickerdoodles.typepad.com

What a wonderful job Macy's does at displaying your wares so effectively. I know when i shop at the ones in Washington State they make me want to spend. And, wonderful to have such a superb following Martha. When something is well done...we all appreciate the effort and ambition that goes along with this.

Hello Martha! I was one of the hundreds of fans standing in St Louis. I have to say I had a GREAT time and met some wonderful people. I was #59 and met 2 gentlemen that drove from Jefferson City that day! Macy's did a fabulous job organizing the whole event. It was certainly a day to remember for me. You are even more beautiful and gracious in person. The television does not due you justice! My only regret is that I missed your beautiful dogs! I would have loved to have gotten a picture of them and showed my Labrador, Ripper. I bought 2 cookbooks - one for me and one for my mom for Mother's Day (shhh!). Thank you for a wonderful, exciting day!
p.s. The bottled water was a FABULOUS idea. I would have paid $10 for it!!!

Hi Martha! I was one of the lucky one's to meet you and have you sign my 5 books for Christmas gift's. I can't wait to give my 80 yr old aunt her book. She will squeal with delight. We both subscribe to Living and Every Day Food and talk about them all the time. I just wanted to tell you how wonderful your driver was with Sharkey and Francesca. He was soooo kind to the fans, allowing everyone pose with them and take as long as they needed. What is your secret on such well behaved girls? They sat nest to each other and actually posed for pictures! They were so wonderful. I have one question. I have wanted to get a Bay Laurel Tree. Do you know where I can find one? I tried Amazon.com but they cancelled my order due to not surviving shipping. Again, It was such a pleasure to meet you. You were beautiful that day and very kind

Oh Martha, I was heartbroken that I missed your book signing at Macy's West County Center in St. Louis, MO. If I had known ahead of time I would have been there for you to sign my cook book I received for Christmas. I would loved to have met You, Francesca and Sharkey - I have been a follower for many many years. Would it be possible for you to post on your blog the upcoming locations of where you will be in the future for all to see and read. "The Daily Wag" is adorable - they are so precious - I always enjoy the pictures you share of them and all of your animals.

Hi Martha,
Tonight I visited with an auctioneer in Searsport, ME and I couldn’t believe my eyes ….a beautiful painting of Jordan Pond and Bubbles!!! The auction is scheduled for this coming Saturday and the auctioneer said it was consigned from a gentleman in Bar Harbor and is approx. 50 years old. The frame is original and I believe it is mahogany.
I plan to attend the auction and if you are interested in this painting I will get it for you and you can refund me after you receive the painting.
You can view the painting by clicking on this link. There are two photos of the painting on this page.

P.S.
The photo of the painting is showing a bright circle on the sky....that is the auctioneer's flash on his camera reflecting on the glass and in my opinion, the glass should be removed.
