A spring tour around my farm and my daffodil border
It started to rain last Friday in my part of the Northeast, which is very good for the gardens and all of the new plantings. However, after several days of gloomy conditions, I can honestly say that I am looking forward to seeing the sun again. Just before this foul weather locked in, I took the photos for today's blog using my Canon G10. Looking through these pictures has helped to elevate my mood. Please enjoy this little tour around my farm and I hope it cheers you as well.

Thanks for sharing such lovely pictures of your truly fantastic gardens!! Inspiration for us all!! I am currently enrolled in the certificate programe of Longwood Gardens and have had David Culp for one of my instructors. Fabulous teacher and horticulturist! Many thanks to you for your wonderful work in homes and gardens!!

Well it comes as no surprise to me, that your garden is looking so wonderful and colourful. My first peony has arrived, and I can hardly wait for the others to bloom. Have a wonderful day - I can't wait to see what hat you wear in Central Park!

Marvellous pics from a beautiful garden, Martha.

wow very nice how the new gardens are shaping up. My sister Suzanne (you probably remember Beasley her portugese water dog who just passed away) lived across the street from you in Westport. My mom and aunt (both gardeners) got a lovely tour of the Turkey Hill home and gardens. I sadly did not make it over on that visit. My mom still talks about the canaries.

Wow!!! I love when you post pictures of the farm and the gardens. In Mexico we don´t have daffodils because we don´t have a cold weather.
I have a bleeding heart in red and yellow and it´s wonderful.
Warm wishes.

Hello Martha - caught your show on Monday where you were cleaning all the windows at your home. Please try the cleaning cloths that I gave you - extremely enviromentally friendly and perfect results for windows and mirrors. Eliminates paper towels and a cleaner. Have you tried them on your mirrors yet?
Sincerely,
Dale Goertz

farm forward is a wonderful organization, so very important we bring to light the plight of farm animals, i would never touch veal or foie gras, cannot believe a thoughtful, humane society would allow such practices......

You should put your farm on twetter so we can see it. For the ones like me that missed the Today Show
Thanks

Oh my...where do I even begin?! These pictures tide me over, too, until brighter and sunnier skies return. We have had one tremendous rain event in the northeast - that's for sure!
Gee whiz, I didn't even know there was a 'whitebud'! (Thanks for that little tip!) The espaliered orchard is looking good, Martha, since it's recent pruning! I talked right out loud to myself when viewing those photos! The up-close photos of the blooming trees are outstanding, and I especially studied and admired the rosy pink apple blossoms - something we see while driving by orchards but never get to study their intricate beauty up close. Your cutting garden is coming along nicely, with many varieties of which I would've waited to plant...you are ahead of the game and will have blooms (and house bouquets!) much sooner. (And) Virginia bluebells!...YOU HAVE SOME! Oh, I LOVE them! - a true woodland wildflower! (Were they already there in the understory, or did you plant them?!) They are fragrant, too - have you noticed?! I love all the drifts of daffodils, too (I know, I love 'everything', don't I?! [giggle] )...if I had the space, I'd have e-v-e-r-y variety of narcissus possible - I love them so!
The rain can continue this summer, as long as we get some reprieve to get out and enjoy the fruits of our labor (not to mention getting our lawns mowed and back in bounds!) Everything is just so unbelievably lush and green which seemingly happened overnight. I have shrubbery that already needs trimmed and reshaped (and it's not warm, yet!)
Sunshine, my wonderful friend! (liquid/other)

Superb! Like a river of daffodils!! So very inspiring. I just returned from Santa Barbara where i was mesmerized by all the roses. Are you planning to attend the World Rose Festival/Congress being held here in Vancouver in June?

I'm thinking of getting a white bleeding heart.

My 10 year old told me last year: "Mom! Your broken hearts need to be watered!" I replied-"You mean, bleeding hearts." Her reply -"Bleeding, broken, whatever. They need water!!"

LOVE the pictures! Thought I must admit they do make me jealous a bit. We just moved into a new house (conveniently it is a GORGEOUS Martha Stewart Home in Texas) and put in a large garden....but nothing like these. I did however plant several hundred bulbs for next year and can't wait to see my garden develop. Thanks for the continued inspiration!

Thanks for bringing some sunshine back thru your pictures. It looks so lovely. Thank goodness for spring!

Dear Martha,
The flowers are beautiful. The REAL reason I'm writing today is to tell you how great you look on the show lately. Your hair is darling, and I love it behind the ear more with the gorgeous long earrings. I'm 59, and try to keep up with a classic style. You certainly have one - you are a pretty woman!
Oh, and I bought your new craft encyclopedia to go with your Housekeeping Handbook, magazines, etc.
My Best,

Thank you for sharing those lovely photos. It reminds me that I planned to buy a white bleeding hearth this year - I already have the red/pink one. My tulips are starting to bloom and I think bulbs are a wonderful way to make a garden - with so little effort the garden shows a ray of colors every spring. You are such an inspiration Martha!

Beautiful gardens Martha, Thankyou for sharing!
Your lovely flowers lifted my spirits, as I too, have been dealing with overcast skies and rainshowers here in North Texas the past 10 days.. I am looking forward to seeing some blue skies and sunshine very soon!

Hi Martha, Thank you so very much for this wonderful blog at an extremely appropriate time! We had one summer day last Friday and have had several inches of rain and stormy, windy weather ever since. It sure does get boring even here in the Puget Sound area. Your blog was not only cheerful, but was refreshing, heartwarming, elegant, stunning and really made my day!!! I can hardly wait for the weekend when they say that the sun will finally come out! Yah!!! Loved you on the Today Show today. You were magnificent! Can't get on Sirius to talk to you today so I am enjoying listening to you while I review your fantastic blog photos. Rain, rain go away.... Jan

Hi Martha,
I should have added to my earlier blog, that I am a "sufferer", albeit I dislike a "victim" role, of Seasonal Affective Disorder, (S.A.D.), and was a bit relieved to see that you were not "at the top of your mental game" (paraphrased), by the lack of sunlight.
Thanks.

The smallest strip of snow still hides from the sun on our front lawn. Your photos are so wonderful...my hubbie laughs at me for getting so excited about flowers but I can't help it! Spring bulbs and blossoms are my absolute favorite thing and you gardens are filled with the varieties I love. It's inspiring. We are currently building our new home, "Birch Hill", and I can hardly wait to start planting. I will look back to your pictures for ideas when the time is right. thank-you,

p.s. I am really having a hard time finding the GE Monogram appliances you have on the show...do you really love them? I haven't been able to find a local dealer and have no idea about pricing either.

Martha,
Your garden is just glorious!!! I wish I could have a garden like that!!! You should give tours of your garden and have a small quaint little restaurant there and serve food from veggies and fruit from your "food" gardens and have it decorated with flowers from your flower gardens!!! That would be wonderful!!!

Dear Martha- Spring is the most beautiful and freshest of seasons when it comes to the garden. Yours is an inspiration to us. I love your cutting garden. Our neighbor, who runs a successful little country farm stand, has started his cutting garden this week to later sell to his faithful locals. We also love all your spring flowering perennials. Thanks Martha.

Beautiful bleeding heart. My father whom I lost last year to Alzheimer loved nature and gardening.Thankfully he passed this love to me. Bleeding heart was one of the first flowers he showed me how to care for
