Attending Whitney Houston's listening party
Last week, I had the great pleasure of attending pop diva Whitney Houston's listening party held at the Allen Room at New York City's Lincoln Center. About five hundred guests were in attendance, listening to nine tracks from her much-anticipated new album, I Look to You, which is to be released on September 1st. As you may know, this will be Whitney's first album in nearly seven years  Music mogul Clive Davis, who discovered Houston, is producing this album of really terrific songs, which the star-studded audience enjoyed thoroughly. When all of the nine songs had been heard, Whitney appeared and spoke to all of us. She really is amazing.

that cover is such a lovely image of her - she looks strong and resilent. I hope this works out.

Hi Martha!
What a night! I am so ecstatic how our gifted artists are moving in force! It was warming to see all the love and gratitude conveyed to Whitney, and her to them...nothing beats that mother/daughter hug. Dionne is phenomenal, as always, and there were so many supportive people I noticed - Nikki Haskell, for one - and whose names are no less than great...yours among them.
Especially thrilled to see everyone's shoes...and toes! Whitney has cute toes!
Oh, Love the song titles, too. I can't express how wonderful it is to see all of the smiling faces and the reverence of so many. Music is magic and we're all just 'a clicking our heels!!!
Great coverage of this event, Martha (& camera)!
PS. It was almost a spiritual moment when I saw the pictures of Steve Harvey. Does he not look like the late great Richard Pryor? I hadn't noticed before. Phew! Well, I'm certain all who ART in Heaven were there...shoes and all!

Love the black shoes and the sparkly silver and black ones! Do you know the designers?

Whatever Whitney Houston has been through, it seems it has been worth it. I have watched her over the years and have seen her go in and out of life's troubles. Now, she has a radiance about her. She seems so very happy.
I am so happy for Whitney and her family. I wish her well on her continued journey. Talk about a comeback! This is like a born again life!
Hallejuhah!
I am looking forward to hearing her new music.

I have watched Whitney Houston over the years. She has come a long way round. She looks radiant and happy and so very sure of herself.
Talk about a comeback! More like a total born again life for her!
Hallelujah! I will look forward to her new music in September.

What an honor to have been able to share this special debut of Whitney's comeback! She is one beautiful woman as well as her singing - she projects that powerhouse voice of hers effortlessly...she always leaves me awestruck of her gifts and talent whenever I view a performance.
Another favorite in the house was Dionne Warwick...I loveloveLOVE Dionne Warwick! I gasped with delight as I meandered thru this photo gallery and there she was. I'm sure she, along with mother Cissy, were very proud of Whitney and her new album - a true time for celebration!
Wow, Martha! Thank you for taking us along to yet another 'wowza!' event - your candid shots captured in the photos were very enjoyable!

We have so few *great* artists still left. Whitney is one of the remaining few, and she seems to have finally found her way. I can't wait to re-embrace her and finally hear some GOOD music! August 31st can't come fast enough!
Thanks for this inside peek, Martha!

Hi Martha,
You are the WOMAN!!!! Loved the shoes; as I think
you are a shoe person too!!! Is this something
artists do, a listening party??? Do they take
impute for the audience and maybe tweak the
songs or titles??? I am glad Whitney is coming
back to the music world...

Martha:
I enjoy your shows and books. I have just purchased a copy of your DVD Martha's Baking Favorities. I'm hoping my baking techniques will improve by watching it.
Thanks for "Twelfth Night," the Shakespeare in the Park ticket you gave me. I am touched by your generosity. My friends are envious.
More magazine have published "My brush with greatness," online.
Thanks again.

Hi Martha, What a lovely, happy crowd you captured at Whitney Houston's listening party. I love the photos of Jean-George and his wife, Whitney's relatives and so many others. Everyone looked like they were enjoying the event so much. I enjoyed your photos of the hands, feet and shoes. How unusual and fun. I wish Whitney the best on her new album. Jan

You know, it seems that your appeal could be substantially widened into the top 'pop' margins for all that you do by HYPING ANGLES for your social scene escapades.
Seeing more of you on Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition, and on covers of boiling hot social magazines -- Doesn't it feel like it's where you need to be these days, and where everyone needs to see you.
Too many people view you as a Garloo of a business woman who sleeps and eats deals, and/or an over the top super kitchen wizard. You are so much more, don't you think?
C'mon Elizabeth Taylor of the 2000's. Don't you think there are twists and turns your publicists could make, that would take you as far as you've taken yourself? Put that smile and those eyes out there with Tom Cruise's. There are multiple ways to activate those FRONT COVER flashbulbs to your advantage!
Oprah, Ellen, Rachel, Michelle, Martha --- The most photogenic one needs to weigh in more often, I THINK.

Whitney's time is now, and now is the time we all need to see her come back. Some of us out here are feeling low at times, and it's so encouraging to know that the light at the end of the tunnel is not a train - it's Whitney! Best of everything to her and to all of us.
