My photos of the early morning autumn fog
I know I've blogged before about my farm shrouded in the early morning fog. However, I just can't seem to get enough of how incredibly beautiful things look covered in a misty blanket. On a recent Saturday morning, I awakened to these glorious autumnal sights and once again, I grabbed my Canon EOS-1D and headed out the door to enjoy this magic.
1 I love shooting this view. I've taken it in every season and in every weather condition.
2 A closer view of these, often photographed, ancient apple trees
3 The sun beginning to rise over Cantitoe Corners
4 The corn crib was nearly hidden in the shroud.
5 This tree in the distance is a young pin oak - a new addition to the landscape.
6 An eerie bank of fog rolling across the meadow
7 Draped in fog, this carriage road seems to go on forever.
8 A wooded road leading to an open field
9 A grove of maples turning with the season
10 Dense fog at a lower elevation
11 The woods are very peaceful in the early morning fog.
12 There is such an exciting contrast of color.
13 This is the run-in shed for my horses, painted Bedford gray, just like all of the other buildings at the farm.
14 You can barely see the tennis court off in the distance.
15 It's amazing how quickly these weeping willows have grown over the past few years.
16 These are my chicken coops - the roosters are crowing with the rising dawn.
17 This ancient crooked sycamore makes a great silhouette on this foggy morning.

A lovely photo-series, Martha. (Almost makes it seem that being an early-riser is a good thing!)

Hi Martha!
How many mysteries the beautiful landscapes you have captured with your Canon seem to hide...I love when the early morning fog spreads out along the meadows!

tk u, love these photos and yesterdays, this fall is markedly different from last and photos more than confirmed that.... saw u on leno, flirty Jay, m not the least bit crafty but glitter segment was inspiring, really quite neat.

I can't get enough of seeing how beautiful everything is either so you can show your fog pictures anytime you want as far as I'm concerned. I enjoy seeing all the different roads and especially the carriage road, but also the different buildings too. It has to be an amazing experience to walk or drive around your property. You should see it in my dreams! (Just kidding.)

The one thing that rather scared me today though was seeing the pictures of the coyote on The Daily Wag blog. I have come upon raccoons and a fox but never a coyote and no thanks anyway. I’m glad Meindert scared it off.
~
It was good to see you on Leno last night. You looked great and I guess Jay noticed too because he certainly was a flirt, as usual! Trish

My Martha, you...are...a...COUNTRY GIRL! I love this characteristic in you - you're at home in the city as well as in the country, living the farm life.
~
I love your pictures, too, as always - I never tire of seeing them, and I absolutely love you, too! (hope you never tire of hearing it!) [giggle]
~
Have a wonderful and bless-ed day, my friend! Glorious weather abounds for us today and tomorrow here in the northeast.
I loveloveLOVE you, Martha Stewart!

I am worried about Martha because I know she loves Halloween and she is running reruns. I hope nothing is wrong.

Hi Martha,
I always enjoy these early morning pictures. They have the suggestion of perhaps a John Turner painting. I don't know if you have ever tried painting, Martha, but if you do, perhaps in your retirement, you have so much to inspire you and painting is so relaxing.
We cannot get your TV show this fall and I am very disappointed, hopefully, this will change next year (Vancouver BC) and no other station picks it up.
I do enjoy your blog and pictures, however. Keep them coming!

How stunningly beautiful! Thanks for sharing. We are between homes and living temporarily at a beach rental where the fog/mist are a regular occurrence. But not nearly as pretty as the fog hanging over your amazing property.

I know it's hard to find the time, however, I think you should put your art studio to good use by create some original MS paintings.
Take care.

I absolutely love these pics of the early morning fog in the country. We actually had our first real autumn fog in B.C. this week and it was wonderful as I went for an early morning walk in the woods. You of course have a spectacular farm and I am so glad you love the country life. There is nothing better!

Hi Martha,
So enjoyed seeing your Fall colors. My husband and I just returned from a road trip to St. Louis from Chicago and the colors were gorgeous. Especially in Southern Illinois.
On another subject, I saw one of your shows on Begonias and loved it. The man who presented the various begonias was from a nursery in your area. Could you let me know the name of that nursery.
Thank you,
Barbara

Those are beautiful pictures Martha - they look like paintings.
I cannot get enough of your farm. Those are my favorite blogs! It's an inspiration to me with every corner of Bedford you share! The bees, the chickens, the vegetable garden and on and on! I can see now why you left Turkey Hill - Bedford is amazing.

Early Morning Autumn Fog
.
A pergola spills onto the carriage road, smudged by the fog.
Enchanted by the magic moment, I am agog.
The misty blanket that surrounds the ancient apple trees
Beckons the sun to rise over Cantitoe Corners and leas.
The corn crib with its rustic charm hides within the shroud.
A young pin oak, within a fence, alone but very proud;
An eerie bank of murkiness rolls across the meadow.
Blended in mist on this wooded road there lingers a shadow.
The quiet is awesome, in a grove of maples you might find fairies
Or a 'wise' old owl with fixed gaze, hooked beak whoo tarries,
Something special in early dawn, peaceful woods are reborn.
Splendid contrast of emerald green yellow bronze this morn.
Painted Bedford gray is the horses' handy run in shed,
Roosters are crowing eagerly to get their chickens out of bed.
The amazing growth of the weeping willows that never cry;
Sifting softly thru the fog running the ridge under the spooky sky,
Silhouetted against the ancient crooked sycamore and gorse;
There stands an elegant pair, the veiled lady and her noble horse.
.
Luv u all - keep smiling.

I know what you meet about beautiful, we live in the Pacific Northwest at Port Orchard, Washington, and we get that wonderful mist all the time in the moringing and somtimes all day, just love the way it makes the mountains and trees mystic, and sometmes a eagle will go flying by, it truly is Gods country.

Those are such beautiful pictures! I live in the San Diego area in a neighborhood where the houses are very close together. I only dream of having views like that. You must LOVE your life and your accomplishments. Unreal!
Posted by: Tanya Estes | October 21st, 2009 at 10:41 pm
I appreciate the painterly quality of each view--how the crook of a tree frames the photo or the sweep of the rolling fog creates a sense of movement. Also there is a time lost sense as in a bygone era.
Beautiful and peaceful. Thanks for sharing your talent as always.

Hi Martha, These are some of the most stunning foggy photos at your farm. I absolutely love everyone of them! We had very heavy fog here the last two mornings. I could hardly see the houses across the street and Puget Sound was completely out of sight. It took most of the day for the fog to dissipate yesterday and the thick fog kept returning today until early afternoon. Like I said before, I sure wish you would make a book of all of your wonderful Bedford farm photos and another one about Skylands. I would love looking at them over and over again. Sure was fun watching you on Jay Leno's Show last night. You certainly handle his silliness very well. Jan

I admire your appreciation of your surroundings. I am also blessed to have beautiful views from my NC home and I enjoy them every day, every season just as you do. Being thankful for nature's beauty, it's a good thing, don't you think?

Celia Stock-I loved your poem in reference to Martha's photos of; "Early Morning Autumn Fog"! I haven't blogged before but I think you should know that I thought your poem was a beautifully thought out summary of the wonderful visual I just experienced. I look forward to more...

Beautiful! I love takin pics of morning fog. I live on the foothill mountains of the Blue Ridge, so I can see many, many miles. When there's fog, we are above it first thing in the morning. It's an eerie sight, but beautiful.
