Remembering my friend Merce Cunningham
This email just came to my attention and I wanted to share it with all of you. Merce was a good friend a very great man.
'Dear folks at Everyday Food, This is a missive for Martha Stewart, who
was friends with the celebrated American choreographer, Merce
Cunningham, who recently passed away. I simply wanted to tell Ms.
Stewart that in the last few weeks of his life, one of his favorite
dishes was a recipe drawn from Everyday Food -- a Spinach, Soba, and Shitaki Mushroom soup. Merce adored this, and requested it frequently
(something he rarely did), so I found myself cooking it all the time.
It's a marvelous recipe, as I find many to be in this wonderful little magazine, so thank you to all.'
Warmly, Laura Kuhn, Director John Cage Trust

Hi Martha!
I heard about his death in July, he was one of the greatest creative American dancers and greatest living choreographer. God bless!
Martha, this is one of my favorite recipes, so delicious and healthy!

To Martha, friend of Lord of the Dance, Merce Cunningham,
.
Could the difference between ART and CRAFT, you've asked us to tussle with, be .....
.
.
Art from the artist,
Connotation's drink.
Rivering deep through soul's phloem,
----heaving questions, as poem.
.
Then the craft speaks in hammers,
Denotation's design.
Architecting handsmith-wrought glory,
----building answers, as story.
.
With love, for you and the great artist man,
Andrea of Verrocchio

Nothing worth doing is completed in our lifetime,
Therefore, we are saved by hope.
Nothing true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history;
Therefore, we are saved by faith.
Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone.
Therefore, we are saved by love.
No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as from our own;
Therefore, we are saved by the final form of love, which is forgiveness.
Reinhold Niebuhr
In memory of our dear friend, Merce.
