A gathering to celebrate the release of 'Nine' with Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson and more
On Monday, I attended an elegant luncheon at Per Se, Thomas Keller's extraordinary restaurant located in the Time Warner Center in New York City. The reason for the gathering was to celebrate the release of 'Nine,' the vibrant and provocative musical, directed by Rob Marshall, which has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards! The movie boasts several stars, including Daniel Day-Lewis, Penélope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, and Kate Hudson. This adaptation of the Broadway musical follows the complicated life of world famous film director Guido Contini and the numerous women he is involved with. This star-studded luncheon was called for 1PM, but the cocktails ran so long that lunch was not served until two. Regretfully, I had to skip most of it to get back to a meeting.
3 Nicole Kidman - one of the female stars - with Liz Smith - The Grand Dame of Dish - and Tovah Feldshuh - actress, singer and playwright.
5 Ron Howard - film director, producer, and former actor - remember him as the young Opie Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show and Richie Cunningham on Happy Days?
6 Liz Smith and Peggy Siegal - a well-known publicist. Peggy coordinates many amazing gatherings and premieres.
10 Here I am with Jill Goodacre - former Victoria's Secret model and her husband, Harry Connick, Jr. - singer, actor, composer, and pianist.

Hi Martha,
I wish I could go to say a third of the places you go to! You get to meet so many people and of course, so many people get to meet you. I plan to see this movie because I admire every one of the stars in it. Thanks for providing us with pictures. Trish

P.S. Good craft segment on the Today show this morning and Hugh Grant was in the studio also. I never miss his movies!

It looks like you got to capture the highlights, at least, Martha...too bad you had to skip out due to a meeting! [big sigh!]
.
This looked like one fantastic gathering, though... As you attested on your show the other day - you DO have a wonderful life!
.
Many blessings to you this Christmas season,
=^..^=

Thank you Martha. The other day I saw the show where you tested the potency of baking soda and baking powder. Yesterday my chocolate chip cookies looked a little flatter than usual. I checked the date on my newer box of baking soda waiting to replace the opened-nearly-empty box and I was shocked to see that the new box had a use by date of 2004 and the old box a date of 2002. Time really flies!!! Thanks again.

Martha, what a fun event! I must caution you about standing next to Larry King for pictures, though...you are so vibrant, and he is so vampire-ish, that it seems he might suck the life out of you. Do be careful!

Martha, you look so beautiful and young. I think Peggy needs a little help with the eyeliner. Aren't Nicole and Kate gorgeous? I watched them last night on Larry. Kate said she was going with her mom; too sweet. Love you

Martha, I also grew up in a Polish family in New Jersey. Around Christmas my Grandmother always made a poppyseed roll - and I CANNOT find the recipe anywhere. By chance do you have a recipe? I really would love to make it for the holidays - it will bring back so many great memories. Thanks - and I love your blog (very inspirational - I always weed my garden after reading one of your blogs about your farm!) Thanks Martha, Maria

Hi Martha, Your schedules sure get complicated sometimes, don't they?! Looks like you were having a great time at that celebration and sorry you had to leave for a meeting, but that's the way life is. Loved your photos, especially the one of Ron Howard. Haven't seen him for a long time. Was he the director of 'Nine'? Speaking of your schedule, you sure will be busy next week! I know you will be able to accomplish all that you want to do before Christmas. Your Sirius radio 'Ask Martha' was super today and my heart went out to you when you told us all that you wanted to do. You are the best, Martha!!! Another good TV show today, too. Also loved seeing you on the 'Today Show' again today. All of those craft projects were simple and super! Take care and get some rest. Jan

Martha, I wanted to take a few minutes and thank you very much for your wonderful brine recipe and directions for a turkey. I had never heard of brining a turkey. My aunt told me she used to brine hers, but only in salt water. I followed your directions, even on the baking, to the letter and it was magnificent! My husband hated to see me using the wine in that manner, but he even enjoyed it, and he doesn't eat poultry. It was a beautiful bird. My husband took a picture of it. He was impressed. Thank you very much.
