Snow Shots from Mt. Desert
You may recall last June, when Cheryl DuLong, one of my housekeepers in Maine, sent me some of her photographs, which I shared on this blog. As I stated then, Cheryl loves hiking and photography and makes a habit of rising early to enjoy and to document nature. Her photos of Jordan Pond, taken last summer, were simply amazing. I have not been able to travel to Skylands in quite some time and knowing how much I like to see that area in all seasons, Cheryl sent these great photos that she took recently using her Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS. Enjoy!
1 Barely legible, the sign for Skylands

3 A rather majestic looking driveway at Skylands
4 A view into the woods
5 All is quiet at Skylands

8 Such a fuzzy white coat - this looks like chenille.
9 During the long winter, we set out high-energy suet cakes for our little bird friends.
10 This is a white-breasted nuthatch.
11 The white-breasted nuthatch has an appetite for insects and large, meaty seeds. I hope the suet is satisfying enough.
12 So delicate and magical!

Fabulous pictures Martha - your property looks all snuggled into winter. Cheryl has done a lovely job of keeping you up-to-date.
Isn't technology wonderful? It wasn't so many years ago that you wouldn't have been able to see your property so effortlessly.

Our Great State of Maine is beautiful in the winter, I live not far from Seal Harbor and always love to see your pics. Quietly waiting for spring on the coast.

Simply beautiful! Reminds me of home the next island down (Deer Isle). I miss skiing through those silent winter woods.

Thank you for posting the wonderful photos. My husband and I love Mount Desert Island and try to get up there every year. We are planning a trip this June. We love to hike, bike and I love running the carriage trails.
I hope you can get up there soon.

The last photo, Clifton Dock and the ferry, is absolutely gorgeous. Is the sky always that color at that time of day? I don't know if you publish & sell your photos but this is one I would certainly be interested in purchasing.

Thanks for posting. Jordan Pond is as beautiful in winter as it is in summer. We were there last summer and had lunch at the Jordan Pond House with the fabulous lobster stew. Nice jobe Cheryl!

I love Skylands. And I'm sure it's just as magical there in the winter as it is in the summer months. Winter is such a special time of year. People whine a lot about it, but it's something I would sadly miss.

What beautiful pictures! You must miss Skylands very much in the winter. How nice of Cheryl to keep you up to date on your other property. Spring is just around the corner and then I know you will visit this beautiful home of yours.

Hi Cheryl, You are another one of Martha's fantastic photographers as well as her housekeeper at Skylands. Thank you so much for sharing these stunning winter time photos with all of us. Just like with Martha's photos, yours make it seem like we are right there in that beautiful place. Hope you are staying warm up there in Maine. Look forward to any other photos that you may have to share. Jan

Just exquisite. I've never been to Maine in the winter, what a treat to see these photos. As a child my parents took us to Ogunquit for summer vacations and I have such fond memories of those times.

Thank you, Cheryl!

Beautiful pictures--love snow and we seldom see it in my part of Alabama. We did have a good bit of snow a week or so ago, but it didn't last very long. Cheryl is a very good photographer.

Love seeing Cheryl's photos~great to see Jordon Pond & the Bubbles snow covered. My favorite shot is the sunsetting on birchwood trees. We'll be back to visit in September~you'll be all thawed out by then~~thanks for the winter views of Mt. Desert.

Thanks Martha for the beautiful pictures on your blog. Mother Nature has no equal, when it comes to decorating. Things we could never imagine.

These are surely breathtaking pictures of winter's finery, especially Seal Harbor from your terrace's vantage point, Martha! There IS nothing like a blue-skied backdrop to snow-covered boughs in the foreground, or a capture of a dark grey and stormy ominous-looking winter sky! - I find awe in both, actually.
~
On the contrary, OUR snow from our heavyheavy snowfalls in Maryland is melting and receding nicely on this first day of March, and I'm very much looking forward to 50ish temperatures this coming weekend, as they are forecasted. After this unusual (and laborious!) winter (I'll already be limber for springtime yard chores!), this girl has suffered a TERRIBLE dose of cabin fever, I'm afraid! [giggle]
~
Seeing the bare ground again is r-e-a-l-l-y helping me on the road to recovery (along with Mr/Mrs Cardinal's 'good cheer' spring song!)

hello!
im looking at your site beacuse
A i love martha, who doesnt
B because in setting up my own wordpress blog/site
i see yours is among the best.
but one thing bothers me.
when viewing an album in the right column there is an ad space which is video (or moving stills)
its very distracting and made me move away from the album and the blog.
such a perfectly designed site as this shouldnt have such a major design flaw.
when im viewing marthas personal pics i believe it should feel more personal..
best,melissa
