A Visit With Oprah
I must thank all of you dedicated readers, once again, for helping to make my blog so successful. As I did last year, I chose five of the most popular blogs as far as page views are concerned and will repost them during this week. I hope that your holidays were wonderful and I wish you all a very Happy New Year and hope that 2011 will be safe, healthy, and prosperous!
I am so pleased to announce that on Tuesday, October 5th, I will be appearing on “The Oprah Show” for the first time in nearly ten years! My producers have been working closely with Oprah’s producers for months getting this show together. For example, this past summer, an Oprah team was invited to meet me at Skylands, my home in Maine, where we filmed a segment. Oprah’s talented crew built a great set modeled after my very own television set and painted it with Martha Stewart Living Paint from The Home Depot - the walls in Tahini and the cabinets in Sisal. Plus, the shelves were stocked with familiar items from my Martha Stewart line of products from Macy’s, as well as the Martha Stewart craft collection from Michaels. Oprah and I had a wonderful time together. Please tune in. Check your local listings.
1 Oprah and I had a great time together. While the crew was changing the set around, we sat off to the side.
4 The greenroom with more beautiful flowers and the latest copies of my magazine, Living, and Oprah's O Magazine, of course!
6 Jocelyn, one of our stylists, cutting cucumber strips for the infused vodka, which was a big hit with Oprah.
7 Various flavors of infused vodkas and the ingredients, for our Grown-Up Grilled Cheese and Bloody Mary segment.
8 The Oprah crew modeled the set after my own TV set. Her stylists adorned the shelves with wonderful pieces from my collection at Macy's.
9 The utility room was stocked with towels from my collection at Macy's, as well as cleaning products from the Martha Stewart Clean line.
10 There were even Martha Stewart books, including Cupcakes, Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Crafts, Encyclopedia of Crafts, and the Cooking School.
12 Also in the craft room were all my magazines - Living, Everyday Food, Weddings, Whole Living, and my latest Halloween special - right next to Oprah's O magazine.
14 Michaels helped create this craft room and made sure that our favorite glitter and paper punches from my craft line at Michaels were on the shelves.
15 Susan Magrino - my publicist - posing on the utility room set with a copy of my Homekeeping Handbook.
16 Oprah's food stylist helped to prep for the Grown-up Grilled Cheese segment, featuring recipes from the September issue of Martha Stewart Living.
19 My team and Oprah's worked closely together for weeks and finally got to meet in-person at the taping. Brad Opperman, one of the Oprah producers, and Andrea DiPasquale, AVP Marketing for MSLO.
20 Here I am with Annie, my wardrobe stylist, in the hallway outside my greenroom - The walls are lined with photos of Oprah and her guests.
21 A view of the set and audience - Oprah and I were getting ready for another segment. We had a lot of fun and the audience was fantastic.
22 My publicists Kelly Galvin, Susan Magrino, and Judy Morris - Special Projects Producer watching the show backstage on a monitor.
23 Here I am on the monitor during our craft segment. A peg board lined the wall with all the essential crafting tools from my line with Michaels.
24 Oprah loves her dogs as much as I love mine and I wanted to share these gifts from my new line at PetSmart. I gave each of her 5 dogs a monogrammed bed, a monogrammed grooming tote, toys, a feeding mat, and monogrammed bowl.
26 Leslie, an Oprah producer and I first met when she came to Skylands to shoot footage for this show. It was great to see her again, this time in Chicago.
31 Backstage with the Oprah producers, Erinn McNeill, Brad Opperman, Leslie Grisanti and Tara Montgomery

My two favorite TV hosts get together! Love it! I'll be watching.

Martha, here you are with one of my two other favorite people. What can I say...two of my favorites on the same show, and...I'm not able to see it. It is going on for 2 years since I've seen Oprah, and a few weeks since you went to Halmark and I can no longer see you on my computer. It is a sad, sad, situation for myself, and all the others who are in the same boat.
But, I am glad to know that you're still out there. And, maybe someday, I'll get to meet all 3 of my favorites. I keep hoping and praying.
Gloria!!

I'll definitely DVR this show. You look lovely, but I would have like a little more color on your lips and in your clothes to offset Oprah's coloring, and that her set is geared to her coloring. You look a bit washed out.
PS: Love your new show - and the lineup at Hallmark. Can't wait for more offerings.
PPS: Can you have Richard Feigen and his daughter on your show sometime to talk about art - developing an eye, and collecting. Maybe do a field trip with them.
Thanks.

Oprah has not been a show that interested me but think I will watch tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up. You look wonderful and was gracious of you to credit Oprah's team and her crew.

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!!! Martha, I also don't get the Hallmark Channel nor The Cooking Channel. I wish I did because I feel that I along with many other viewers/fans we are really missing out on all that we learn by watching these wonderful enlightening shows. Our cable is included in our rental lease so we can't even upgrade it to get these channels.
I'm elated that you and Oprah will be on channel 4 in my area! This is a TREAT!!

Martha, thanks for shring this blog. I will be watching tomorrow for sure I can hardly wait.

I didn't think Oprah still had 5 dogs - I'm pretty sure 3 have died. The two cocker spaniels and one retriever died not that long ago. I know she adopted a new cocker spaniel - Sadie.

Martha, I have a hundred year old barn and would like to have a celebration for this. I have some ideas but would like your ideas. Thanks!

Hi Martha,
I’m looking forward to watching you on Oprah this afternoon and it’s hard to believe that it has been almost 10 years since your last visit. That was a great hour and I still have it on tape. You were showing someone from the audience how to fold a fitted sheet and I remember her being very confused. Btw, I agree with Aliana, you look great but your colors are too light – not the right shade beige. Catch you later. Trish
Posted by: Trish | October 5th, 2010 at 9:20 am
All set to record it and watch tonight after work if the rain lets up..otherwise I will watch it at 4PM...looking forward to it.
Posted by: Teresa Touey | October 5th, 2010 at 9:25 am
I really like the first picture of you both -- future President and Vice-President???
I do not get the Hallmark Channel either, and have missed seeing your show. It is not the same viewing it on-line! Looking forward to this!

Last weekend, I made the grilled cheese sandwiches Martha made on Oprah. I saw the idea in this month's Martha Stewart magazine. My family LOVED them! The only thing I did differently was to bake them in the oven on a cookie sheet. That way, I could do many at once. On Oprah, Martha mentioned also being able to use olive oil instead of butter. I'll try that next time. After the reaction I got from my family, I'll definitely being making them again.

ONE MORE THING, Purple Martin safe nest clip had so much information today. Imagine Native Americans changing environment impacting entire
migration of species! Thanks for continuing to show us the way to Living a better life..

Hi Martha, What a delightful surprise to find out that you will be on Oprah's TV show for a full hour today! It has been a long time since you were there and I can hardly wait till 4:00PM today to see the show! These wonderful photos sure give great clues about the show today! Can't wait to see the 'Grown-up Grilled Cheese' segment! Loved seeing Emeril and the cute wild animals on your Hallmark Channel show yesterday!! Anxious to see F.,S.&G.K. on your Hallmark Channel show today!!! You sure make everyday lots of fun! Thanks a million! Jan

I can't wait to see you on Oprah today. I love both your shows & DVR them every day. I make sure I don't miss one show. I'm moving to Florida & hope I get Hallmark there. Keep up the great work. PS. I love the Ask Martha radio segments. So informative.

Looking forward to seeing you on Oprah today. I can't TiVo Hallmark, so I'm a long-time regular TV viewer who is cut out with your new cable show. Miss you!!

Will be seeing you this afternoon. It was nice to see photos of all the behind-the-scenes folks. Break a leg, Martha!

Very much looking foward to watching the show today...especially the sit-down interview portion.
Posted by: natalie | October 5th, 2010 at 1:28 pm
This will be such a wonderful show. The two most powerful women in the world together. I can not wait.
Posted by: Teresa Blackwell | October 5th, 2010 at 1:29 pm
Martha, you look great no matter what other's say! You look so classic! You could wear any color though my fav's are light blue and pink!
I remember you on Oprah's show years ago. You made bath salts I think. I have that on tape! 10 years flies by doesn't it?
Can't wait to see the infused vodkas. I made your cranberry infused vodka for Christmas presents and we still make that vodka and drink cosmo's every year when the cranberries come out!
It's truly amazing your line of crafts, paints and home furnishings. Keep them coming!
Good luck and can't wait to watch!

Martha: I'm having withdrawals! AT&T UVerse dropped the Hallmark Channel a couple of weeks before you moved your show over. I have a few old shows recorded but I want to see the current ones. Sounds to me like quite a few fans have been left out in the dark with this switch. I guess if we go long enough, we'll get you out of our systems and won't even need your magazines or cookbooks anymore. I guess it's all about money and convenience for you. This could be your second worst decision.
Posted by: Sharri | October 5th, 2010 at 3:00 pm
Martha, I'm watching you & Oprah right now. You are an amazing woman & a tremendous role model as a survivor for all of us who struggle.
Thank you.

Martha, OMG Is this a good thing or what? You and Oprah together it's just the best. If've told you many many times how you inspire me and it's so good to see how much you mean to so many. I have been very fortunate to see both you and Oprah in person and I would travel miles to see you again any time. You can come over to this Jersey girls house any time and I will cook for you.
Thanks

Martha,
What's up lately? I love that you have been "out there" and in such approachable venues. I really enjoy getting to know you--it feels like a new chapter.
Best of luck and love.

The show's pacing was perfect. I enjoyed hearing Martha speak to the issue of prison. The O show was especially enjoyable due to the fun ambiance...everybody laughing and having so much fun. Grilled cheese never looked or tasted so good I'll wager. I'll take O's Bloody Mary I'm afraid. I've never "balled" a fitted sheet; but I've never folded it property either. Now I know how and will try it next time 'round. I loved the Martha Stewart craft assortment. I'd run right out and buy one if I were into crafts again. Schools should have it in class. Thanks Martha! I loved the entire O show.

I WATCHED THE OPRAH SHOW TODAY WHICH FEATURED MARTHA. IT WAS GREAT EXCEPT FOR THE FACT WHEN I WENT TO MARTHA'S WEBSITE, I COULDN'T FIND TODAY'S FEATURED RECIPES, WHICH INCLUDED A VERY DIFFERENT GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH! PLEASE ADVISE.
MANY THANKS!

Our dear, dear Martha,
It was so good to see you having fun and reminding us all what we love to see in you. The smile, the excitement about your products and your creativity.
Quick "Martha" story. My husband noticed that my newest issue of your magazine did not have a mailing label. He promptly said to our dog, "we'll have to get Mom a subscription" Well, as with your soap bottles, I told him it was a matter of esthetics. The label peels off withour damaging the cover leaving our coffee table with a beautiful magazine displayed on it.
Thanks Martha!
Posted by: Sharon Weinmann | October 5th, 2010 at 6:07 pm
What a wonderful show! It's nice to hear you speak so candidly. You looked amazing, were forthright and articulate. And now I want a grilled cheese sandwich, thank you very much.

Martha! Come over to our house for diner. We live in Northern California at a winery and would love to have you if you are in town. I saw on Oprah that people don't always invite you over for fear that you might judge them. I am not a chef or interior designer but it would be fun! Check out my blog http://www.gratefullove.blogspot.com and come over! =)

Thank you, Martha, for being so candid on the Oprah show. I loved the questions Oprah asked. But I loved more the strength that Martha communicated. What an inspiration and a role model!
Thank you Martha for 25 years of teaching us...and thank you Oprah for being such a great host.

Watched you on Oprah today. You talked about love being invited to dinner. Okay, here I go. Passover, my home. Is your calendar filled for April 2011?

Best Oprah EVER! Wonderful in every way. You both look amazing and it was obvious that you truly enjoy each others company.
Posted by: Mandi Pike | October 5th, 2010 at 8:46 pm
Martha I saw the show and it gave me an idea for a gift for my 2 nieces for xmas so I joined your site hoping to buy 2 starter kits for kids crafts but you have nothing available except single item purchases. I live on the other side of the country and having the option to order online a nicely designed kit with storage for them and the option of having it delivered gift wrapped would have been perfect and I would have no trouble paying for the service. Could you consider this for future for all of us uncles that want to buy creative gifts for their young family members instead of always going to electronics for gifts.
Posted by: Bill Murphy | October 5th, 2010 at 9:24 pm
One of the best interviews you've given and one of the best shows of late. Your responses regarding the prison experience were brief, concise and true to form. Way to go. Keep going!
Posted by: W. Coxwell | October 5th, 2010 at 11:51 pm
Martha, I thought you looked drop dead gorgeous in your lovely silk blouse and your soft canary diamond earrings! WOWSER! Forget the earlier posting that suggested your coloring might have been "pale" next to Oprah. NOT SO! Your colors and your coloring were absolutely breathtaking! You were radiant and more beautiful than we've ever seen you. Equally mesmerizing: your strength, your calm, your forthrightness, your warmth, your natural sincerity... all there for the world to witness.
Martha, I have always admired your work ethic, your insatiable curiosity, your elegant style, and your enthusiastic teaching all these years. You've shown us that it is possible to have beauty and elegance in our homes and our lives no matter our incomes. You're one of the very few people easily content and comfortable camping out as you are attending a state dinner. That is what I think I love most about you: your authenticity.
Lastly, it has always bothered me that most high profile women(like Oprah)did not publicly support you during the most difficult time in your life. Shame on them. Kudos to true friends like Rosie who had the "Martha-like" courage and integrity to stand up and be counted when it mattered. It's wonderful to see that Alexis Stewart takes after her mother in that way.
Posted by: Roger | October 6th, 2010 at 12:15 am
Dear Martha Stewart today on oprah's show you were making a crab meat sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes however you didn't post the recipe I would love to have it

My two favorite iconic women - both on stage together - what a complete treat! Watched the show tonight on TiVo and it was truly a wonderful treat after a long day at work. You looked amazing and I loved the cucumber infused vodka along with the gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches - brilliant. Keep up the fantastic job. Enjoy your week.

Martha, I have always admired you but you handled the prison questions with such grace. My admiration for you grew even greater after this show. I felt that Oprah put the prison situation out there "way" too much. It was not needed. She actually didn't need to mention it at all. We are all over it and have "healed from it." It took away from the beauty of the show. And Martha, it was a beautiful, fun show, thanks to your grace and poise. You showed so much strenghth and wisdom, even when answering ridiculous questions. You go girl!

Hi Martha - - You are truly amazing. I loved you on the Oprah show. I would love to know what wonderful goodies where in her basket and where we can buy them. I loved the tour of your home in Maine. PLEASE, PLEASE tell us where to buy that wonderful bread you served at your luncheon in the video. I sure hope you or your staff will respond. Thanks.

Martha,
I'm so happy to see you back on the Oprah show after a 10-year hiatus! What I love about you is how you have continued to live your personal brand through adversity. You are truly a person to admire. People need to know that setbacks and problems will not destroy the personal brand they have worked a lifetime to build, as long as they remain true to who they are no matter what happens.

Hi Martha,
I'm sad to say that I missed watching you on the Oprah show because I was away on vacation with no t.v. available
and now I need to browse the Internet to find a replay of the show (maybe on youtube hopefully). I'm sure Oprah LOVED your gifts for her 5 doggies!! You always make time to add a dash of thoughtfulness in your schedule each day ... you are the best, Martha!!
I read the comments on this post and I was surprised to learn about the prison topic was raised on the show. You mentioned this Oprah adventure was in the planning stages for months and I'm disappointed that Oprah would add the prison topic because it was such a tiny short blip in your life. But you always handle that topic with grace!

Hi, I have been watching your show since I first came to the USA (1999). I have learned a lot about America, I love your simple ideas for house, gardens, and menus. Keep educate our people, especialy basics for households. We all need to go back to basics because knowledge of our children and grandchildren is equal to microwaves. Love you.

Martha, I loved seeing you on Oprah. You looked amazing (fabulous blouse and a PERFECT shade) and you were very compelling in your honest answers to Oprah's questions. I admire your forthrightness and conviction to your beliefs. I've always admired and respected you and all you've created, and after that appearance on Oprah, I admire you even more (my friends won't think that possible). Nicely done.

I liked the fact that you mention the bread freezes well. Fresh is best but it's nice to know what can go into the freezer and come out a winner. Martha, you should have a bread party! My mom used to tell me there's nothing like the smell of bread baking in the oven. It's true; but I liked the smell of the rising dough by the heater grate in our house when I was a kid.

Hi watched you on the Oprah Show - still can't fold a sheet. I dvred the show and have watched it over and over. Are you sure that you folded the sheet correctly. You didn't shake it out and went to the pre folded one. On her show a long time ago you folded the sheet differently. I can do that one but just thought the new way would be better. Best to you.........

I just want to tell you I never miss your show...well hardly ever. I have learned so much from you~!!! I worked full time for 20 years for Lands End until about 6 years ago I was diagnosed with a non operative brain tumor. I truly did not have much time to watch your shows before this happened to me. I look forward to your show everyday, I have had to reorganize and live my life quite differently than I did six years ago. This may sound silly to you but you and your show are one of the things that make my life tolerable. Keep up the good work ...it is GREATLY appreciated.

Hi Martha, Thanks for reposting this wonderful blog post that was a preview of Oprah's TV show with you as her only guest. That was a terrific TV show and you did a great job dealing with her questions. Her crew and yours sure did a fine job getting the studio and the two of you ready for a TV show that showed many of your fantastic products. I would love to see a rerun anytime. Hope you have a wonderful New Year's Eve and Day and a fabulous New Year! Have a safe trip home! Can't wait to see your new shows on Hallmark Channel Home starting on January 3rd! Your magazine is tops too. I also remember the time you showed us how to install a pulley clothes- line on TV. Now that is amazing and who else other than Martha would realize how we need helps like that?!
Now I would like to see Martha give help in restoring leather furniture. On internet they talk about dyes etc and how to do it but can't find the merchandisers. They suggested Home Depot and @ the store, they have nothing. I'll bet on Martha for how to's.
Is this o.k. to ask on your blog? I'm rather a novice at this.

My new years resolution was to never start any sentence with the words "I don't like" so I will leave my Oprah comments out. I think you were very kind to grace Oprah with your presence. She was lucky to have you on her show; a show that I will never watch even if you are on it! Loved the Singapore show! So great of you to share that experience with us! My husband and I are going because of that show!
