Weekend in the Hamptons
This past weekend, I was in East Hampton, where the busy summer social season is in full force and on Saturday, I attended two parties. During the afternoon, I drove out to The Springs section of East Hampton to attend a wedding celebration and baby shower for W editor Stefano Tonchi and his longtime partner, art gallery owner David Maupin. The party was held at landscape designer, Edwina von Gal’s lovely home. The guests of honor are expecting twin girls via a surrogate in early August. Following that gathering, I drove to my friends, Allen and Debbie Grubman’s home for an early birthday party honoring the incomparable Tony Bennett.
5 The back stairs. Because the house is so close to the marsh, it was built on stilts, raising it in the event of high water.
6 Landscape designer, Edwina von Gal, has been working in the Hamptons since the mid-1980s and is dedicated to preserving nature.
9 A telescope sits at the ready and this handsome fellow is observing something off in the distance.
11 Ospreys, whose diet is mostly fish, nest in locations near bodies of water that provide an adequate food supply.
20 Leaving the shower party, I drove away from The Springs, and headed for my friends, Allen and Debbie Grubman's home for a celebration honoring Tony Bennett.
22 Here I am with Nicholas Pileggi, best known for writing the book Wiseguy, which he adapted into the movie Goodfellas.
23 Pileggi's wife, Nora Ephron, film director, producer, screenwriter, novelist, journalist, author, and blogger - sitting next to Mort Zuckerman, magazine editor, publisher, and real estate billionaire.

That is a good picture of you and Tony, and the one of the two of you with Helena is also a great one.
I'd like to look that great now, and especially at Tony's age. But, I'd have to improve a lot to catch up with him.

Hi Martha, You must have had a fantastic weekend traveling just a short distance from your farm this time and enjoying two terrific parties with some special friends in East Hampton! I'm sure both parties were really fun, but the second one with Tony Bennett really stands out! I remember hearing Tony Bennett back in the early '50's when I was babysitting in Twin Falls, Idaho! I loved him then and have loved him ever since! All of your photos are once again fabulous! My favorite is #27 with Helena, Tony, and You-adorable!!! Happy birthday to all three of you on Aug. 3rd!!! Loved hearing you again on Sirius Radio 110 yesterday! Hope you have another wonderful day! Jan

Hi Martha,
I really like Edwina’s house and the views of the marsh. It looks so serene and quiet – it would be great to live in or just spend time in the summer there even with thoughts of rising water. Congratulations to the guests of honor who are expecting twins in August. I think I’ve seen pictures of Stefano before. He and David make a handsome couple.

You hang out with some fine people – Tony Bennett is such a doll and how great to know Nora Ephron and Nicholas Pileggi. Well, we’ve seen Nora on the show but I didn’t realize she was married to the author of Wiseguy and hence Goodfellas – I love that movie. I think I watch it whenever I see it listed in the TV guide. Thanks for sharing your weekend with us – one party would have worn me out yet you went to two of them and after coming home from traveling the globe. I want what you’re drinking! Trish

Hi Martha, The first home..my blood pressure dropped just by looking at it. Such a beautiful location...so natural, and seeing all kinds of wildlife. What a lovely home! Tony Bennett looks so great! It's hard to believe he's eighty-five. It goes to show how loving what he does (singing and painting) really kept him young. He's such a gentleman. You look great at the party...and what a fabulous group of guests! What a great weekend you had!

Thanks for sharing Martha. I have enjoyed you for the past 20 years and I never, ever tire of the beauty and simplicity of your life in pictures and the elegance that shows through your work and your personal life. It is so refreshing to see how you so enjoy cooking, entertaining and enjoying the "good things" in life.

My weekend was not so social. Quite honestly it was a weekend of work; thanks for showing us how much enjoyment it can be going to showers and birthdays. It would have been fun just listening to what topics everyone was discussing.

What a blast, two great-looking parties! I'm a freelance journalist contributing to Canada's Zoomer magazine, a lifestyle publication devoted to living the best life possible and devoted to those persons 45+...but a great magazine for younger people to see what's is in store as we age and how to look after aging parents. But let me tell you, Zoomer has a few surprises in store for everybody. You should have seen the nude pictorials of some Zoomers aged around 75 enjoying cycling. Anyway, why I mention Zoomer magazine is because as a widow in my mid 60s I've been wonder about the best age group of men to date. I've always been a fan of Tony Bennet and until I saw how fabulous he looks at 85 I hadn't considered this age group. Wow, I wanna know what he eats! Happy Birthday, dear Leo. P.S. I don't believe the lady in pink is H. Clinton.

Never saw this blog entry...it's great. I lived in Montauk for a few years. I still miss the Hamptons. I was NOT well to do
but lived amonst them right on Fort Pond Bay and we could see the ocean as well if we stretched our necks all the way to the right!! I met many wonderful people. Tony is looking good at 85. 86 soon? And that lamb chop plate was to die for!!
Thanks for sharing!
