Fireworks on the Today Show + Tom Hanks
This week on the Today show, I shared a lot of great ideas for making a really festive Fourth of July with co-host, Ann Curry. Independence Day is all about red, white, and blue and the July issue of my magazine, Martha Stewart Living, is filled with flag-themed creativity. You can decorate cookies to look like fireworks, fill patriotic favor bags, and even dress up a bicycle with stars and stripes! Whatever your plans are for this holiday, I wish you all a very happy and safe Fourth of July!
1 Here I am with the very handsome and talented actors, Josh Duhamel and Patrick Dempsey, who were promoting their new movie, 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon.'
2 Josh also talked about his hometown of Minot, ND, which has been devastated by terrible flooding of the Souris River.
3 Tom Hanks appeared on Today to talk about his new movie, Larry Crowne, which he wrote, directed, and stars in.
4 Tom plays Larry Crowne, who enrolls in community college after losing his job and falls in love with his professor, played by Julia Roberts.
7 During my segment, I shared some red, white, and blue 'Good Things' from the July issue of my magazine. Here I am with my team preparing for the demonstration.
10 I showed Ann Curry a great party favor - narrow cellophane bags filled with red, white, and blue candies - they resemble the American flag!
11 To decorate the cookies, place your colored icing in separate plastic squeeze bottles. Start by flooding the surface of the cookie with white icing.
12 Immediately pipe a dot of tinted icing in the center, then concentric circles, then drag the design with a toothpick or skewer.
14 You can use painters' tape, fabric paint, and plain fabric to make festive striped tablecloths and seat cushions.
And don't forget to download the July issue to your iPad!

Martha, all the festive decorations lok great, but with ALL of those good-lloking men around,, i htink you could leave off the fireworks, if only you could take them home with you for the 4th. They'd realy liven up any parade, or picnic, or party.
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY TO YOU, TOO!!!!!

Hi Martha
I really enjoyed watching you with Ann. I usually make your shortcake flag cookies but after seeing the mag cover I changed to these great fireworks cookies.
Thanks as always for new and great ideas.

Hi Martha,
I watched this segment on Wednesday and now I see you hit the bonanza with all those nice looking guys! I still watch Josh Duhamel on Vegas & of course there's Mr. McDreamy or maybe it is just Dreamy. I haven't watched his show. Anyway, I'll be checking out both movies - I think the Tom Hank's movie looks like fun and I make it a point so see all of his flicks.

I enjoyed watching you and Ann decorate the cookies and I think maybe even I could venture to give it a try. There are many good things in this issue, as always, and I especially like Camp Sycamore in upper state New York. It would be great to spend time there. I too wish you a happy and safe Fourth of July and the same to all the visitors to this great blog. Trish

Hi Martha, It is especially nice to see you "live" on the Today show during the summer time! I thoroughly enjoy seeing your reruns on the Hallmark Channel, but seeing you "live" on Today is even more fun! Anne Murry sure is doing a great job as the newest co-host on Today! You sure did have fun that day, didn't you?! Your photos of your time there were terrific! How fun to see Josh, Patrick, Matt, Ann, Al, Tom Hanks, and You! Thanks for including so many other Today Show videos-love seeing everyone of them! Thanks so much for all of these inspiring things you do for us, Martha! You make my day terrific every day! Hope you have another great day and a wonderful 4th of July weekend! Off to see The Daily Wag again-it's wonderful, too! Jan

Loved the July Issue. Can't wait to make the fireworks cookies, they are simple but have a big impact. Speaking of fireworks- I blogged about the 4th- http://keepingplacewithkate.blogspot.com/2011/07/happy-4th-of-july.html

Just love the show and the many ideas. The wreath and jewelry demos were great. I would love to get your team's favorite tools. Please enter me to win. I have been a follower of Martha Stewart for many years and have used many of her ideas in my crafting projects. Keep those ideas coming.
