Here I am all set up for the signing at Williams Sonoma in Dallas at the NorthPark Center, a premiere mall, with about 235 stores and restaurants.
The signing took place at 1pm and people were lined up since early in the morning. Many people drove from other Texas cities, including one family who came from San Antonio, a 4-hour drive!
I did many media interviews at the store, including Dallas Morning News, the local CW and NBC channels, as well as D magazine. These photographers for Dallas Morning News took some shots of the signing.
A sign for this Williams-Sonoma special event
More than 800 people lined up for the signing! This is where people picked up their pre-ordered books.
The line wrapped around the store and continued outside into the mall. It extended the length of the mall and everyone was extremely patient waiting. The line kept going…
And going…
And going!
Lots of families came and I made sure that those with babies or small children were moved to the front of the line.
Christine Gordon, a recent NYC transplant to Dallas and friend of publicist, Kelly Galvin, brought her two children, Maggie and Josh, who were very well-behaved and excited to miss nap time for the event.
There were many nice stores for window-shopping while waiting in line.
I received many delicious goodies on the tour, including these amazing pastries, which we enjoyed on the plane back home.
This area was the final stretch right before getting books signed. There were many cameras and cell phones taking pictures of me!
To keep things organized and comfortable, Williams Sonoma associates held people’s purses and shopping bags while getting their books signed. Here is the cart with all the bags.
More of that impressive line
Williams-Sonoma beautifully displayed my book.
Some people even brought their pets.
Here I am with Jim, the Williams-Sonoma chef, who prepared recipes from the book for everyone waiting in line.
Each Williams-Sonoma keeps posters of all of the authors who visit. Here I am signing a poster for them.
Everyone was so impressed that I managed to sign 735 books in just 2 hrs!
After the 3pm conclusion of the book signing, I then attended a tea with Gene Jones, the wife of Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, at their daughter, Charlotte Anderson's, lovely home.
The food was exquisite and so were the orchid and hydrangea floral arrangements.
