Shopping at Rolling Greens Hollywood
Last Sunday, I flew to Los Angeles, California to tape an episode of the CBS comedy show, 2 Broke Girls. This is a very amusing comedy show about two young women waitressing at a greasy spoon diner who strike up an unlikely friendship in the hopes of raising enough money to launch a successful business. The experience was a lot of fun. As you may know, one of the things I like to do when I travel is to visit some of the more unusual shopping places and I was delighted to be introduced to Rolling Greens Hollywood, an eclectic mix of assorted plants, containers, antiques, and many fabulous objects for home décor. Enjoy this little tour!
2 I was reminded of the beautiful succulent wreaths that I made on my television show, using a wreath form, dampened sphagnum moss, and an assortment of succulent cuttings. http://www.marthastewart.com/270811/succulent-wreath
3 A living wall hanging like this is so much fun because it actually grows, becoming more beautifully full with each passing day.
4 This is famed floral designer, Eric Buterbaugh, who is based in Four Seasons. Here he is in the lobby of the hotel standing before one of his fantastic creations - cymbidiums with wrought iron branches and fan palms.
6 Since I was so interested in the succulent wreaths hanging in the lobby, Eric told us to visit an amazing shop called Rolling Greens Hollywood.
7 I was so impressed by this outside wall display of hanging succulent arrangements planted in cone-shaped tin containers.
10 The potted collections were also very inspiring. The use of allium in an urn to complement the purple rosette succulent is a great idea.
12 Rolling Greens is housed in what had been the Town Tire Co., and one can't help but notice the great sandblasted brick walls. This building was originally designed in 1930 as an open-air market.
13 The interior of Rolling Greens was also very impressive with its concrete floor and lots of natural light.
16 I loved these retro metal lawn chairs. This style of chair is often referred to as tulip or shell chairs, because their backs are slightly scalloped and are reminiscent of those objects.
17 The plants come directly from well-established growers in California, Hawaii, and Florida and all looked great.

My kind of shopping! So many wonderful pots, urns and containers to choose from. Love the succulents, too. There is a very dear garden shop in Los Olivos that has an exquisite variety of succulents...Rolling Greens instantly reminded me of how much i loved roaming around that garden shop or almost any garden shop. Aah...my obsession.

Hi Martha,I love all of these wonderful tours you share with us no matter where you are visiting! The photos are delightful and some of them remind me of visiting some California areas many years ago! Rolling Hills Hollywood sure would be a terrific place to visit and I'm sure you had a great time there! I really enjoyed your tweets and the video from Access Hollywood TV Show-awesome!! The plants and the planters were beautiful! It's amazing how many different items they have in what appears to be a greenhouse that look very open because of their warmer weather! Thanks for sharing another inspiring blog post! Loved seeing you on the Today Show yesterday with your 4 buddies and preparing colorful meals-delicious!!!!!! Hope you have a great weekend with your beautiful daughter and two grandchildren-fantastic!!!! Jan

Hi Martha,
Rolling Greens is definitely my kind of shop. The lobby is great with the succulents on the wall which is enough to get me into the rest of the store! I really like the purple rosette succulent and the retro metal lawn chairs. Those were always so comfortable and you could rock in them a little. I’ve seen similar more modern ones but they didn’t look as well made so I passed them up. I love how Rolling Greens displays their blooming plants too – the pinks, blues and white together in picture #18 are very attractive and then another table close by has colorful urns that draw one’s attention. I should print this picture and take it over to Home Depot. Sometimes their plants don’t look quite as pretty! Thanks for the tour – I want one of everything, especially the urns. I also look forward to seeing you on Two Broke Girls. Have a great weekend all – I’m going to work in the yard. My favorite thing to do! Trish

Thanks for the blog. I appreciate your constant remembering to take us along, show us interesting things or just make us hungry. There are days when I can not even think past a peanut butter sandwich or how to get beyond sweeping the floors. You get me going.

When you trim your tea roses later this month, is that trimming to shape them, or trimming off suckers, or trimming so there are only a few large buds? I was wondering what you meant when you wrote in your calender, "Trim tea roses", as it is past the hard pruning stage.

As a retired floral ddesigner, I love seeing things like this! Having moved from southern California to West Virginia, I miss the availability of places like this. The trade off is the change of seasons! Keep taking me with you whereever you go Martha!! Thanks.

Imagine - I live in Sweden and I can still "go" to a shop "with" you, Martha - just love the possibilities technology gives, and the fact that you are so great at inspiring and communicating with all of us. We love you for that.

So glad that Rolling Greens has gotten your attention as its one of LA's best spots. They also have their HUGE original location in Culver City that's very cool and the owner is a real Gem.

Hi, Martha -- Re the heart wreath, it's probably one of Pat McWhinney's tube planters, designed by by R.C. Cohen.

Hello Martha,
I saw this only today, OH MY GOODNESS... every place visit so inspires me. I have forever watched your show, have a collection of your magazines and books, and crafted so many projects. You have been such a Great Teacher to me. My own Mother - Grace Rose Biondo, was my first teacher and like you everything about home and garden was her artistic palette.
So on this Mother's Day, my tribute, my spirit, my thoughts, my joy, all that is good in me, my creativity and my doing is because of you and her. My spirit really celebrates your Spirit on this day.
I pray for your joy rising on this Mother's Day.
and Thank you, Martha.
with affection,
Petrina Grace Biondo
