The Macy's Fireworks From Our Rooftop
For the fourth consecutive year, the Macy’s July 4th fireworks were launched on the Hudson River right near our corporate offices in the Starrett Lehigh building in the Chelsea section of Manhattan. As in years past, MSLO invited our employees and their families and friends to the rooftop, which overlooks the river. You may recall that last year, Angus Chen, our Executive Support Analyst, and his wife, Natalie Chin, offered spectacular photos for me to post on my blog and they generously did the same this year.

NYPD helicopters monitored the sky for safety.

The crowd waited patiently for the approximate starting time of 9:20 pm.
This is the view towards downtime with the under-construction Freedom Tower on the left and Jersey City, across the Hudson River on the right.
Ooh! Ahh! The spectacle finally began!
The display featured more than 40,000 pyrotechnic shells exploding at a rate of more than 1,500 per minute.
The fireworks reached heights of more than 1,000 feet in the air.
The fireworks were set off from six barges positioned between 18th and 43rd Streets on the Hudson River.
They took up two full miles of sky, providing enjoyment for millions of spectators.
In 2009, the Macy's fireworks display was moved from its traditional East River location to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the exploration of the Hudson River by Henry Hudson.
This show was designed in collaboration with SOUSA Fireworks.
The spectacular show lasted approximately 26 minutes!
