Attending The Great Gatsby World Premiere
On Wednesday, May 1st, I had the great pleasure of attending the world premiere of The Great Gatsby, Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic story. Set to open the Cannes Film Festival on the 15th of May, this 3-D movie is action packed and full of great costumes and period decor. It was a really fun evening, beginning with the red carpet and ending with an outrageous and exciting Jay Gatsby bash!
Here I am on the red carpet, which was actually black, prior to Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D version of The Great Gatsby at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Here I am with Peggy Siegal, New York's famed publicist. Peggy organized this exciting event and invited the star-studded audience.
Tobey Maguire plays Nick Carraway, a Yale graduate and World War I veteran from the Midwest, who rents a small house next door to the lavish mansion of Jay Gatsby and befriends the millionaire who holds extravagant parties. Nick is also the narrator of the novel.
Leonardo DiCaprio is, of course, Jay Gatsby, the young, mysterious millionaire with shady business connections, who becomes obsessed with Daisy Buchanan.
Carey Mulligan plays Daisy Buchanan in the movie. The wife of Tom Buchanan, Daisy once had a romantic relationship with Gatsby, before she married Tom. Her choice between Gatsby and Tom is one of the central conflicts in the novel.
MSLO employee Kate Berry - AVP, Style Director, Weddings, enjoyed her first time on the red carpet.
Director Baz Luhrmann being interviewed. Strictly Ballroom (1992), Romeo and Juliet (1996), Moulin Rouge! (2001), and Australia (2008).
Here I am with Craig Pearce, the Great Gatsby co-writer. Craig Pearce is Director Baz Luhrmann's longtime writing partner.
Here I am with the star, Leonardo. We met a couple of times in California and he greeted me with a kiss.
After the movie, guests wandered over to the nearby Plaza Hotel for a celebration in the gilded Grand Ballroom. Flappers and feather boas were everywhere.
Posing with my friend Richie Notar and his wife, Jane. Richie has a new restaurant in Manhattan called Harlow.
Jay Gatsby would definitely have approved of the decor. There were thousands of butterflies hanging from the ceiling.
The Moët & Chandon Champagne flowed like water from vintage 1921 bottles. This giant 6-foot tall gold-tiered cake was the place to get a glass of champagne.
Posing with Amitabh Bachchan, who plays the mysterious Meyer Wolfsheim and Joel Edgerton, as Tom Buchanan, Daisy Buchanan's old-money husband.
Sacha's wife, Isla Fisher, plays Myrtle Wilson, Tom Buchanan's mistress, with whom he rents an apartment in the city.
