My Latest Appearance on Today with a Match.com Update
I've been visiting the set of Today quite a bit lately. In addition to my regular appearances for food and crafts, I've been on the show updating my progress on Match.com, after I agreed to join the online dating service last week. You may recall that I was assisted by my nephew, Dan Slater, author of "Love in the Time of Algorithms - What Technology Does to Meeting and Mating" and Sam Yagan CEO of Match Inc., in preparing my profile. Matt Lauer wanted to know how I was doing in my selection process. More to follow!
This is the very comfortable set for my interview with Matt Lauer.
I took a seat and reviewed my notes while I waited for Matt to arrive.
Meanwhile, Tamron Hall read the news.
Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, was also on Today to be interviewed by Savannah Guthrie about her new book, "Obsessed." It's a personal book about her struggles with food addiction.
Mika was very interested in my Match.com profile and with possible matches.
Matt jumped in to talk about the new details of my attempt to meet a match online.
I told Matt that for me, this whole process is very time consuming. 20,000 viewed my profile and 1,000 expressed interest!
What you don't see on TV
At the time of this interview, I had weeded the stack down to five potential dates. I looked for things like appropriateness and political views and by the end of the segment, I had agreed on two to go for coffee with.
Matt explained that Match.com had recently seen an enormous boost in signups of older women. What I did empowered those women to alter their own lives a bit.
Later in the show, I did a food segment about mapping out 4 days of healthy meals.
The recipes are from my brand new book, "Living The Good Long Life."
Monday: Vegetable-Filled Omelet -
Tuesday: Seared Salmon with Bulgur -
Wednesday: Farm Salad with Grilled Chicken -
Thursday: Pasta with Green Beans and left-over salmon
The eggs for the omelet were laid by my chickens and all of these vegetables were picked in my vegetable greenhouse.
In addition to things like chives and tomatoes, you can also fill the omelet with a really good cooked bacon and some shredded cheddar cheese.
To sear salmon, you cook it in a hot skillet with a little bit of olive oil for about 3 minutes per side. Serve it on a bed of cooked bulgur tossed with sliced scallions and lemon wedges - a heart-healthy meal with protein and staying power!
The next night was the farm salad with grilled chicken breast tossed with a simple homemade shallot vinaigrette. To make this meal a bit more filling, serve whole-grain crackers with hummus and sliced cheddar cheese.
I explained that the most important thing when you're thinking about living the good long life, is to really think about the food you're going to eat and serve to your family.
Most people don't usually think about eggs for dinner, but they're really a very good and healthy choice.
Matt jumped right in and demonstrated his omelet-making skills.
The final meal was fusilli pasta tossed with cooked green beans, some toasted almonds, parsley, and flaked left-over salmon. We were joined on set by Tamron Hall.
