Breakfast for the ad sales team was served casually in the stable.
There were wonderful, flaky croissants from Balthazar Bakery. http://www.balthazarbakery.com/
And blueberry muffins, too! These delicious treats were made from a mix from my new MarthaPantry line available at jcpenney.
Pretty and utterly delicious!
Dressed in hiking gear, I greeted all my guests.
Posing with Kerry Tucker and Michelle O'Connor
Christine Vystrcil and Alison Matz
Gina Schramm and Pat Degliuomini
Joe Lagani and Jessica Hollander
Krissy Goode and Gina Schramm
Another shot of Michelle O'Connor and Kerry Tucker
Katie Albright greeted Meindert as Betsy Perreten, my stable manager, looked on.
My niece, Kristina Christiansen, works in ad sales and she's also an accomplished equestrian.
Danielle Dolinsky and Ari Srisethnil loved Clive, Rufus, and Billy.
Ari wanted a photo taken with her iPhone.
Lena Ghaleb and Michelle Snyder arriving
Francesca, one of my French bulldogs is very sociable. Here she is with Jordan Vaughan and Kelly Brent.
After breakfast, we gathered in the carriage house of the stable.
I spoke to the group about the importance of really understanding what the Martha Stewart brand is all about.
This ad sales team is a group of really good listeners.
I also gave a brief history of this farm and my stewardship of it.
A humorous moment - Dorie Herman, Kerry Tucker, Raylene Salthouse, Laura Petasnick, Joe Lagani, and Jessica Hollander
I asked Hannah Milman, our crafts guru, to come and share some of her experiences while working at MSLO.
Many good questions were asked.
After speaking in the carriage house, I led the group on a 3-mile hike around the farm.
Amy Wilkins and MaryRay Lombardo
Raylene Salthouse, Samantha Perlman, Liz Smyth, and Krissy Goode
Deep in the woods, I told the group about the great number of trees that have been ruined in the many storms that blow through here.
Quite conveniently, we came upon a lemonade stand. It was a really hot day and this drink was very refreshing!
This group stopped to marvel at something and lagged behind. Dashing to catch up to me are Michelle O'Connor, Maria Dwyer, Raylene Salthouse, Lauren Weeks, and Pat Degliuomini.
I led the group at a brisk pace.
I showed them the equipment barn.
And the vegetable greenhouse where produce is grown throughout the winter.
We walked through the cutting garden towards the main greenhouse.
My gardener, Ryan McCallister, answered questions.
Raylene Salthouse was awed by my plant collection.
Lisa Silvers was amazed by the citrus trees.
While the group lingered, I picked up a hose and did a little watering.
My beekeeper, D.J. Haverkamp of Bedford Bee Honeybee Service, came to speak about his trade.
This group huddled in the shade while D.J. spoke.
Kathy Goodman is pretty fearless when it comes to honeybees.
After opening a hive, D.J. removed one frame. Gina Schramm was fascinated to see honey ooze from the comb as D.J. pressed on the wax.
Delicious, pure honey!
D.J. was trying to locate the queen bee to show the group.
The bees got angry and D.J. suffered a sting.
For those who were interested, farrier, Linda Friedman, was also there demonstrating how to shoe a horse.
After the outdoor demonstrations, we returned to the carriage house where Hannah Milman - SVP Exec Editorial Director Crafts, Sarah Carey - VP Editor in Chief of Everyday Food, and Thomas Joseph - Director of Food Development spoke to the crowd.
Hannah, Sarah, and Thomas work hard at their jobs and love what they do.
They talked about how the Martha brand is reflected in all aspects of the business.
I asked my other niece, Sophie Herbert Slater, to drop by. Kristina, Sophie, and I reminisced about the fabulous and inspiring trips I took them on several years ago. Together, we visited Egypt, the Galapagos, Peru, and the Amazon.
We had some very funny travel stories to tell!
After that, I walked the team from the stable towards my house.
As stated in yesterday's blog, Chef Pierre Schaedelin prepared quite a lunch.
While the burgers were sizzling on the grill, –
Guests helped themselves to a salad of orecchiette with fresh mixed garden peas, salad Niçoise, and watermelon goat cheese arugula salad.
After our active morning, this fabulous lunch was really appreciated.
As were the utterly delicious ice cream sandwiches for dessert!
Alyssa Schaefer, Danielle Dolinsky, and Andrea Smith
After lunch, we took a group shot. What a dynamic team!
Lunch was followed by a game of croquet. Joe Lagani, Jessica Hollander, Nicolle Stumpf, Tara Meyer, Laura Boberg, Krissy Goode, Pat Degliuomini, and Mary Ray Lombardo
And badminton, too
Francesca watched with Tina LoRegio and Morgan Kassel.
