"Clean Slate" Challenge
With the launch of our newest book, Clean Slate, the staff at MSLO thought it would be fun to mark the occasion by organizing a "challenge," based on the three-day action plan from the book. Many participated, and planned and cooked and presented a selection of healthful meals together.
I'm proud to say Clean Slate, is our 84th book AND No. 17 on the New York Times Best Seller List. The cookbook and guide, published by Clarkson Potter, is full of more than 160 delicious recipes with an emphasis on eating clean, whole, unprocessed foods. There are a number of vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and allergen-free options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—and desserts, too!
Eating healthfully is a topic that concerns a lot of us, so it is no surprise that the book has been well received thus far, and I hope you will pick up your own copy at your favorite local bookstore or online today. And, if you decide to start a challenge of your own, please let me know how you did.
1 Samantha Perlman, Tara Mosely, and Hadley Henry from our merch team, Sarah Vasil from the style department, and Rebekah Lowin from digital editorial discuss how best to prep ingredients, make use of the kitchen space, and delegate tasks.
2 Two of the recipes on today's menu: The quinoa salad is made with zucchini, pistachios, and mint. And the beets, avocado, and sunflower seeds will top arugula.
3 The larger group was broken up into teams of three, and each day, one person would prepare lunch for their team—everyone had a chance to try their hand at cooking.
4 A lunch of Brussels sprouts with avocado and pumpkin seeds was also served, along with the beet salad and quinoa dish.
5 Senior merch designer Samantha Bennett displays a finished plate of quinoa salad for her team.
6 Another of the day's dishes. What you think is rice is actually finely chopped cauliflower! The stir-fry also includes broccoli, carrots, bell pepper, pumpkin seeds, and cilantro.
7 Baked sweet potato topped with greens and avocado, high in fiber and low in saturated fat, was on the menu as well.
8 The entire group sits down to enjoy a delicious lunch together.
