Holiday Memories: How I Celebrated New Year's Eve
I hope you are enjoying the long holiday weekend. Here's an encore blog post from January 03, 2013.
I want to wish all of you a very happy New Year. I hope you spent the evening in a pleasant way. I have to admit that after a very relaxing and fun week in the Florida Keys, coming back to the cold - 80º to 20º - was a bit of a shock. So too, was the hubbub of New York City, where I celebrated New Year’s Eve. I met my good friend Memrie Lewis at Elio’s, a wonderful Upper East Side Italian eatery. Memrie is a landscape designer who has created fabulous gardens from Charleston to New York to Maine. She also designs terrace and rooftop gardens in New York City. She was joined at dinner by her lifelong friend, interior designer David Easton, author of Timeless Elegance: The Houses of David Easton. David has designed amazing houses all over the world. Also joining us was David’s longtime partner, artist James Steinmeyer, who renders David’s work in museum-quality watercolors. I invited my nephew, Christopher Herbert and his husband, Timothy Long, as well as Daisy Schwartzberg, my makeup artist to partake in the festivities.
Here I am with David Easton, who is one of the world's most sought-after interior designers. We have been friends since 1982!

Chris travels continuously with his four member vocal group, New York Polyphony, and I realized that we hadn't seen each other since last September. http://www.newyorkpolyphony.com/
Timothy is a very talented conductor and pianist and Jimmy Steinmeyer, David's partner, is a wonderful artist.
Daisy Schwartzberg, my makeup artist, was decked out for New Year's Eve.
Our waiter at Elio's - the service was great, as usual!
There was much champagne being poured that evening.
I ordered the clams casino and they were so fabulous!
Chris started with oysters, which tasted so fresh and briny.
David's first course was asparagus.
The Dover sole was also excellent!
The entire restaurant was decorated with red balloons, making it quite festive.
A nice shot of me and Chris with our bunch of balloons
After Elio's, we went to a party at another friend's apartment. I really loved this giant wreath that was hanging in the lobby.
We then joined another group of merry makers for a glass of champagne at Le Cirque.
The interior of Le Cirque is adorned with this giant internally illuminated lamp-shade chandelier that provides a warm ambiance.
New York Polyphony will soon be leaving to record their next CD in the superb acoustics of the 14th century church of Länna, Sweden. Their last CD, endBeginning was recorded there in October of 2011.

Here we are with the legendary Sirio Maccioni, the owner of Le Cirque.
The balloons at Le Cirque were printed with stars and snowflakes.
The diners were given party hats and noise makers. It was a really fun crowd to be with at midnight.
Chris and Tim really enjoyed themselves and were great company!
