Here's Betsy on Rutger and Monique on Meindert, enjoying what looks like a rugged Irish field, neatly bordered in field stones.
These fields are really quite beautiful and I cannot wait to return in another couple of weeks.
So open and wonderful.
This entrance way accommodated old farm equipment - the gate is long gone.
Here is a smaller entrance for people. The field was gated to keep out sheep and cows grazing nearby.
Here is what's left of an old cold frame.
Sadly, the wall is crumbling in areas.
Very interesting coloration on these shones - perhaps rust from the gate and chartreuse moss below. Notice the old hinge.
An irrigation stream runs through the middle of field.
There's something hidden in the brambles.
It's and old piece of farm equipment.
Continuing along the trail, we noticed a house through woods - it won't be visible when the trees leaf out.
An out-cropping of rocks - it looks like an old foundation, but its a natural formation.
Riding along - so pristine and quiet.
Emerging onto another open field.
Rock formations are always so interesting.
An old trail marker.
Circa 1950's - these lanes were once called the Private Lane Association. In the 1970's, they were renamed Bedford Riding Lanes Association - BRLA.
A fairly new sign.
An even newer sign.
