The 55th Annual Winter Antiques Show
It’s been a very busy and exciting time for Antique Shows. Last Thursday, I went to the opening of the 55th Annual Winter Antiques Show held at the Park Avenue Armory at Park Avenue and 67th Street in New York City. Running through February 2, this most prestigious show is visited by museums, dealers, design professionals, and private collectors who are interested in seeing and perhaps, buying exceptional pieces shown by 75 renowned exhibitors.
The Winter Antiques Show is a benefit for the East Side House in the South Bronx of New York City. The East Side House is a wonderful community resource which combats poverty and provides necessary tools for individuals to pursue their educational goals, in hopes of improving economic status, leading to more fulfilling lives – a most noble and worthy cause. Come see my photos taken with my Canon G10.

Hi, Martha,
Thanks for giving us a glimpse of such beauty at the Winter Antiquies Show.

That looks like a wonderful event. The Chinese silk fabric from Cora Ginsburg's booth is beautiful and would look so modern today. I have always admired the Keno brothers, they have been collecting antiques since they were teenagers.
Thanks for showing us these pics.

Beautiful pieces - what a show! The beadwork is so intricate. Thanks for the glimpse from those of us unable to attend functions such as these - it's such fun to take a break and enter a world far removed from one's own!
I have a quick question, if I may - I'm not sure how else to get in contact to ask:
On the set of the TV show there is a set of tiered metal baskets on the wall that I just love. They have fruit/vegetables in them. Where are they from and/or do you know where one could purchase them from.
Thank and keep up the great work of inspiring us everyday.

I would love to sit by the door and watch what had been purchased and was going to a new home. Then again I guess most of the items would not be going out the door I would be at but rather being delivered. Oh well if I could just sit and watch I would be thrilled.

Hi Martha, I just love this pictorial of the 55th Annual Winter Antiques Show. Not only is the show wonderful, but the purpose for having it is wonderful, too. Your choice of items to share with us, is absolutely fantastic. I love the furniture, rugs and Native American artwork. The picture frames are outstanding. I just wonder how long it would take to hand carve the stunning large frame. The dinner setting is really beautiful. Is that a lid on top of the coffee/teacup? I use a lid on my coffee mug to keep the coffee hot longer. Thanks so much for sharing. Stay warm. Jan

Stunning, as always. You are an inspiration, and it has been great visiting your blog and seeing a side of you that seems more accessible and real to the at-home followers. I have been a fan for many years and look forward to all that you have coming! Launched a food blog of my own last week and would love if you popped in some time!
Cheers,

Catherine was asking about the tiered wire baskets on the set of Martha. I"m sorry to say that they were from the old Martha by Mail and are no longer available retail. You may look for them on eBay. Good luck and thanks for reading and watching.

Thanks for sharing another day in your life with us. Such great diversity in your blog topics - makes for an intersting read! Never quite know what I might stumble upon or learn when I visit your blog.
The curious side of me wonders, what, if anthing, did you purchase at this show? When the economy was better, I used to love visiting antique shows (not quite as exquisite as this one, however) but I'm afraid my budget no longer allows...sigh!

That's a nice picture of you with the mayor.
You should put it in a nice picture frame and display it on your desk.....

The MS Show of January 29th 2009 brought forth the question of which term is which. To answer Martha's question, here are the definitions according to the American Heritage Dictionary-
Gusset: A triangular insert for strengthening or enlarging a garment.
Gore: A triangular or tapering piece of cloth, as in a skirt, umbrella or sail.
Love ya, Martha! -Valeri

Dear Martha,
Thank you for posting an image of the embroidered coverlet in our booth at the Winter Antique Show. It is nice to see that it has been appreciated. The coverlet is listed as Chinese.......in fact it is English professional embroidery c. 1700........very much inspired by the orient but most definetly English.
Thank you for visiting out booth,
Sincerely,
Titi Halle, Owner

Do you ever help people get started in interior design? I have ex-daughter-in-law who is naturally gifted and she loves interior designing. She works many hours and has 4 boys so not much time to get started. Was thinking maybe you could give her a start. Thank you for any help.
