A great hike this past weekend up in Maine
Last weekend, I was scheduled to go to Skylands, my house In Maine. My gardener, Shaun and his wife, Jen, came along for the ride, as did my assistant, Christine, and my friend, Kathy Sloane. Saturday was an amazingly beautiful day and we took full advantage and spent much of it outdoors enjoying some of the glorious hiking trails of Acadia National Park. Here are a few photos taken at Jordan Pond.

It is always a great pleasure to check your blog every morning and read your interesting posts.
Bless you Martha!

Hi Martha, Thank you for this lovely getaway in Arcadia National Park hiking around Jordon Pond. These photos are some of your best and are absolutely stunning. I enjoyed enlarging each one and it felt like I was right there. My little Dudley Do Right would have had a ball walking on that trail, especially with Francesca and Sharkey. Thank you so much and bless you for all you do and share with all of us. Take care and hug all of your animals for me. Jan

I loved the footbridge in photograph number 10. How delightful. All of you seemed to have really enjoyed that lovely weather you're having at the moment. There is nothing as envigorating as a healthy hike!

I hiked this path several years ago when I was just recovering from a sprained ankle. It was absolutely lovely, and I must add that the popovers and iced tea we enjoyed in the JP House following the hike may have to be catagorized in the "best ever" slot!

Jordan Pond is so peaceful! My husband and I also enjoy hiking Great Pond Mountain in Orland near Ellsworth. There is a huge fish hatchery, Craig Brook Hatchery, near the mountain with interesting indoor exhibits.

Dear Martha,
Thank you for sharing your photos. Acadia National Park is one of my favorite places on earth. It is simply a magical place up there. I hope you stopped for some of the famous popovers at Jordon Pond House. If not make sure you do during your next visit.
Sincerely,
Michael Hampton

Hi Martha. My husband and I were vacationing in Acadia National Park last September 2008, just after Labor Day. We were walking the same trail one morning at Jordan Pond and happened to see you with your dogs and several others. I was too shy to say hello but it sure is fun to see pictures of you there again! What a great place... we are hoping to be able to visit again soon.

Great pictures, Martha and especially the Bubble Mountains and Jordan Pond. 150 feet is pretty deep - I think my son and sister did a 90 foot scuba dive in the Keys which I thought was deep enough. The carriage road area is very pretty; I love shaded spots like that. And you are getting skinnier and looking great, but then you always look great! There are so many people who deal with food all the time and gain weight but not you. If you do, you sure lose it fast - you're so disciplined. Thanks for another great blog; I look forward to reading it every day! Trish

What a wonderful hiking spot. You have inspired me to vacation in Maine next year and visit Arcadia Natl Park. The lake seems serene and lovely.

I did that very hike two summers ago. It was lovely.

What beautiful natural surroundings there at Jordan Pond, and what a beautiful day you had for your weekend outing! It was enjoyable, too, seeing/reading the girls' perspective today, over on TheDailyWag. Hopefully, you weren't feeling so frisky so as to 'puddle-skip' and get YOUR feet all muddy! [giggle] (That Sharkey! - she's a wonderful little mess!) [giggle]
Well, my Martha friend, it appears to me that you're finally able to take some time for YOU, and I'm glad - you sooo deserve it after a rigorous schedule during taping season. Oh, I know...you'll still be orchestrating work/pleasure outings that will be show segments in the fall; nevertheless, me-thinks the summertime fun is juuust beginning.
Thank you, from my heart ♥, for your response yesterday, due to my aide to another blogger looking for a photo of your mounting block. A simple gesture - so kind of you to reply...it truly made my day today! (Thank you, Andrea, for clueing me in, too! [wink] )
'Til tomorrow, if the Lord is willing...

Wish I did!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was the hike long? Take a lunch or was this a walk after lunch (breakfast). Those rascal dogs did act like they might find a rabbit along the way. And why was no one wearing a hat?
Enjoyed the blog as always.
It was nice Shaun and Jen could make the trip.

Martha,
It's so great that you're back in Maine! (Don't know how you can stay away actually.)
And now I know that all those beautiful flowers I saw on my hike at Point Lookout were lady slipper wild orchids.
Always learning new things from you. Thanks.

Martha
I have the full belief that today is a blessing, and you're to make a point not to mess it up. I have to say you live life to the fullest, and a big cheers to that. It's always a great thing when one has afforded herself that privilege. I love this Blog because it's so down to earth, and passionate.
Hope you had an exciting time on your journey with the walk! Live Life your way Martha! Have an incredible time doing it.

My husband and I will be visiting Acadia National Park, for the first time, in September, 2010.
We'd like to hike, kayak and bike during our few days there.
Any recommendations as to where to stay, and where to eat?
