I had no idea you could do such a thing, wow, you do learn something new everyday.

Thank you Martha! Thank made my day and watching your clip on the Today show about your new book. I can't wait, I am getting for my birthday. Quick question, where did you get your shoes? I love them and they look very comfy which is always a big plus.

So... why do you want to put a chicken to sleep?
Posted by: alejandra Sura | March 31st, 2010 at 3:54 pm
Martha you are too much!!!!!

You are truly amazing! And such cute shoes, too!
Posted by: Anne Robinson | March 31st, 2010 at 4:05 pm
This is one of the strangest things I've ever seen Martha Stewart do.
Posted by: Baly | March 31st, 2010 at 4:15 pm
I used to put them to sleep, but not like she was doing. Mine didn't last as long, I thought she was doing as I was. What I did was hang them upside down(make sure not to hurt their necks, it would calm them down temporarily.

At first I thought you were going to do Kapparot, but that is cruel. I'm glad you have more compassion for these birds.

Posted by: tracy | March 31st, 2010 at 4:28 pm

Posted by: Glory Torres | March 31st, 2010 at 4:33 pm
That is hilarious...
Posted by: Christine | March 31st, 2010 at 4:33 pm
That was great! I thought you we meant you were going to euthanize a chicken on your farm, lol. This is much better
Posted by: Jasmine | March 31st, 2010 at 4:45 pm
I was a little nervous to watch - the title.
Posted by: Greg | March 31st, 2010 at 4:45 pm
Hmmm, are you sure the chicken isn't just dizzy?...
Posted by: Lee | March 31st, 2010 at 4:58 pm
LOVE the SHOES!!
Posted by: Deana | March 31st, 2010 at 5:37 pm
I couldn't believe that Martha could really put that chicken to sleep. It was amazing. I always say, knowing Martha is like going to college. lol Only because each time I watch her I learn something new. I just love her!

Somebody should do the same thing to Martha and see how much she likes it.

I guess I am out of luck to watch the Martha Stewart Living TV Show on Channel 12 (KPTV) in Portland, Oregon! Martha's show is not on anymore AND since I DO NOT have anything but antenna TV (digital converter box) I won't be able to see her show! I am bummed. I am a senior and will never be able to pay for Comcast! It was great while it lasted! If I have missed something about where her show is broadcast, please E-mail me. Thanks.

HAHA!! That is so funny! I love seeing Grandma Martha behind the scenes of her show. Also - I'm curious to know how long the chicken will stay asleep like that? It's pretty amazing that she could get it to do that - especially with all of that noise going on!

not so sure about that one martha, even though i would never doubt your compassionate treatment of animals.
perhaps am over sensitive as i have recently given up eating meat in response to the generally overwhelmingly appalling treatment of animals by the food industry.
Posted by: michael | March 31st, 2010 at 8:42 pm
is the chicken "asleep" like sleeping, or "asleep" like dead??
Posted by: Lucy | March 31st, 2010 at 8:48 pm
Hi Martha, What a fun blog! Watching you get that chicken to go to sleep with all the noise in the background was absolutely fantastic! How did you learn to do that?! Thanks for sharing such a fun video! Love, Jan
Posted by: Jan Erickson | March 31st, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Love, love, love your shoes, Martha!:) Also, VERY glad you only put it in a 'temporary' sleep, and not a 'permanent' one--the title had me concerned that you had a poor little sick chick that had to be put down! This was a lot more fun!:)
Posted by: Cici | March 31st, 2010 at 9:01 pm
Not to be a cranky-boots, but the people who were concerned that you might be euthanising the chicken, where do they think that chicken dinners come from? I'm all for compassionate treatment of animals and am lucky to be able to buy meats direct from the ranchers, where I live, but sooner or later -- it's CURTAINS for the critter! I would actually like to see that done but maybe not on your regular show. My husband grew up on a farm and slaughters our chickens when they have reached the end of their productive egg laying. Too tough to be roasted, they become chicken and noodles that we contribute to a potluck.

Martha
Great technique for putting a chicken to sleep. I have never heard of such a thing. Did you learn how to do this when you were a girl? Maybe it would be useful for someone who doesn't like the chickens waking them up too early in the morning - oh yeah - that is a rooster. LOL
by the way - where did you get those fantabulous shoes! Love them!

Loved the chicken show very much! I watched it when it aired, and then I watched it again through my DVR. I had a pet chicken when I was a child. I taught it to take a nap on my pillow. Chickens are delightful.

I LOVE YOUR SHOES!!!! Where are they from!
Nice video too!
Posted by: Jessica | April 3rd, 2010 at 2:14 pm
Everybody is talking about Martha and the fluffy orange chicken...which really looks like a pet chicken. I heard Martha was trained by experts to put the chicken in question to sleep. Everybody loves Martha's shoes, too. I had a pair just like Martha's years ago...seems the style is popular again. I agree with all the questions: where did you buy your shoes? Thans

Posted by: Alyzabeth | April 6th, 2010 at 6:03 pm
Hey, I just tried that, it works! Thanks Martha, now I have a parlor trick to do with the chickens!
Posted by: Ginger Shelby | April 6th, 2010 at 7:24 pm
that was very cool.
Posted by: janet gunn-knight | April 7th, 2010 at 7:55 am
Oh, Martha! My girls and I are definitely going to try this with our chickens tomorrow. Too funny.
Posted by: Rebecca Taylor | April 7th, 2010 at 8:17 pm
I found that hilarious! The chicken was so adorable. I hope one day to have a chicken farm and use that trick on them.
