More Views of Bedford
Before I left for my trip to Malaysia, I took a bunch of photos of what was going on around the farm. The sunrises continue to be spectacular and the gardens are growing magnificently well. With that said, please enjoy the farm on a beautiful day in May.
1 Sunrise at the farm
2 The horses enjoying an early morning grazing
3 Spectacular!
4 Wisps of mist cling to the ground.
5 An Oriental poppy bud ready to unfurl.
6 Amazing!
7 A delicate California poppy
8 The lupines were lovely this year.
9 We're in the process of building a frame around the blueberry patch to support bird netting.
10 These granite posts will be part of that frame work.
11 A puffy white allium
12 Verdi enjoying a rest in the white garden - the lovely ferns are Japanese painted ferns.
13 Stephanie Cohen, The Perennial Diva, http://www.theperennialdiva.com/ stopped in to see Shaun, my gardener.
14 Shaun took Stephanie for a tour around the farm using a Kawasaki.
15 All the citrus plants have been moved outdoors.
16 The peas in the vegetable garden are growing well.
17 As are the tomato plants
18 The asparagus plants have been allowed to go to seed.
19 We've added a fourth bee hive.
20 The honey bees seem active and healthy.
21 It seems like a good year for strawberries.
22 The berries are forming nicely.
23 Delicate fraise du bois
24 Another variety of strawberry turning red
25 Generous clusters of ripening currants
26 I love the flower form of aquilegia - columbine.
27 A lush shade garden adjacent to the greenhouse
28 It looks like someone took an ink pen to this iris.
29 Gyurme is using this John Deere to move the large tropical plants outdoors.
30 The bismarckia palms, native to Madagascar, have been set in place outdoors.
31 More tropicals moved to the side terrace
32 A beautiful garden ornament
33 The painters are doing a great job staining all the buildings.
34 The herbaceous peony bed
35 Gravenstein apples forming on the new espalier

Simply gorgeous! Your greenhouse is spectacular - as is the rest of your farm. Oh how I'd love a tour of it myself. Maybe one day.

Thank you once again for the wonderful photos of your farm!!! How can you even leave for work each day??? After taking those shots, I would probably have just put my bag down and stayed home!! It is so very lovely. Thank you

Once again, Martha, you are so BLESSED!!! Your farm looks lovely, especially the sunrises. I pray that you're having a safe trip, as well as a good one, and I hope you hurry back.

Martha,
Your estate is spectacular. I agree with Cynthia: how can you bear to leave such a beautiful place? Every time you post pictures, I find a new favorite spot. You are so generous to share your home with us.
On another note, I want you to know that you are an important part of my family. If we see something we really like, we say, "Martha Stewart would approve." However, if we see something that offends, we proclaim, "Martha Stewart would be appalled." Thanks to your guidance through books, magazines, television, radio, and most especially your product lines at Macy's and Home Depot, we are able to make our lives and surroundings "a good thing."
P.S. I recently bought another set of your sheets at Macys, and they are just beautiful.

Hi Martha,
Great pictures as usual. I'd like to see how you install those granite posts. I would guess they are cemented in or maybe half in half out -they don't look too tall. I'm just curious because I don't recall ever seeing a granite post here in south Florida. Well, try to stay cool in Singapore! I know I would be dying in that humidity! Trish

Inspirations are wonderful when followed by work. Bedford property must be among the most beautiful of your endeavors. My wish for you is that you will have much time to enjoy what you have worked so hard to build and inspire the world to better things.

Hey Martha,
More of the same....Spectacular views, gorgeous plants as always, love it!
Love your side terrace, looks very "provence-ial"! Your farm could be on
" Sunrise Earth, Bedford".

My jaw dropped when I saw your citrus trees! My dream home has a solarium, 2 greenhouses, and a few pots of every citrus tree, among thousands of other plants. Seriously, should you ever acquire property in PA, I would love to work for you, Martha! I think you might be able to use me as a gardener/landscape designer/artist/aesthetic silviculturist.

Hi Martha, WOW! Going from one stunning blog to the next is outstanding! I feel like I've traveled thousands of miles! After seeing the pristine photos of Malaysia and them seeing these stunning photos back on your fantastic farm I am overwhelmed by all of the beauty! Everyone of your farm photos is absolutely spectacular! How lucky you are that everything is growing so well. If our weather here in the Puget Sound area would improve, I'm sure we would have things growing better, also. It's wet and still in the 50's here. Maybe it will get better by June. Sure hope so! Love, Jan

My favorite blog posts are ones of the farm. Thank you for taking the time to take pictures for all of us.
I have an imported Oldenburg, black and shiny like your horses and would love to see more of the barn, tack room and other areas of the barn. Your ideas in the barn help all of us horse lovers.

Martha, I always look forward to photos of the farm---my favorite. I have a question about the staining of your buildings. I bought Bedford Gray at Lowes last year and at Home Depot this year and the colors look different. I want the exact color you use.....please help!
Thanks and keep the photos of the farm coming!

Martha, I missed your tweet about @sharkeyhome covering your radio slot today. This happened last week and I thought it was just me, but sometimes when you tweet it does not reach all of your followers. I thought I would let you know since you know the folks at twitter perhaps you can let them know. I actually had to go to your twitter home page or come to your blog (to the twitter feed there) to make certain I'm getting your tweets. I'm getting fed up cause I don't like missing any of my Martha tweets. Thought I would share this maybe others are experiencing this as well. Take care. KLB

What beautiful pics! You grow an amazing amount of produce. What do you do with it all? Do you share with your staff? Sell it? I know you make jams and jellies for gifts, but there still must be more than you can use. My sour cherry tree only has 6 cherries and the blueberries look scares. I think some bug got at them, but they are startling fresh new growth. Keep us posted on your garden. Love this subject.

Beautiful Day in May
.
Fire in the sky, gossamer clouds, brings fire to your heart,
Witness another day,a peeping sun, that's a good start.
In the cool of a fresh morning the big guys graze,
A mounting block envisages a scenic trail to blaze.
"As wisps of Bedford mist clings to the ground",
An Oriental poppy unleashes its beauty,so profound.
It's interesting many secrets lie within such perfection,
Fascinating colors, endless designs no need for correction.
Lupines poking up to join the rapturous chorus,
Verdi and Japanese painted ferns proud and joyous.
The veggie garden starts to rumble, peas clingin' to the brush.
Asparagus to seed, tomato plants awaiting flowers, not in a rush.
Another bee hive and active healthy bees with style,
Buzzin' their cousins,all work and no play for a while;
After considerable musing,in all,it seems like a berry great year,
With generous clusters, lots of flowers, bringing lots of cheer:
Who was it that took an ink pen to the beautiful iris?
Hand painted with glorious shades of lavender, what bliss.
Palm, native to Madagascar,a splendid stone ornament with grace,
Gravenstein apples on the new espalier in this wonderful place.

To the Traveler
.
The hour approaches to leave the China seas,
Don your slicker, splice the mainbrace and catch the breeze,
Sayonara to the noodles, crabs and fruit,
Climb on board say goodbye and stow your loot.
Wish you were here; this Continent is empty without you.
The picture parade is thinning, and then there'll be much ado.
And though we understand your need to roam,
For now,all roads must only lead to home
.

safe journey - and the wind at your back.

Pic 28 is soooo lovely. I have a hand-painted vase with these flower designs...about 70 years old. So delicate. It gives me such peace when i look at it. Iris is lovely in Bad Homburg parks; especially Kurpark. Thanks.
