My Joint Birthday Party With Harry Slatkin
A few weeks ago, I went out to dinner with my good friends, Harry Slatkin, the fragrance tycoon, and his wife, Laura. We chose a new restaurant in Montauk, the far-east end of the South Fork of Long Island. Its name is Navy Beach, a beachfront restaurant and bar serving casual coastal cuisine in a laid back, family-friendly setting. While dining, we looked around and said, “Wouldn’t this be a great place to have a birthday?” And so we started planning. Harry and I never celebrated our birthdays together before, but it seemed like a fun thing to do. Dinner consisted of everyone’s favorite comfort food, including iceberg wedges, butter poached lobster rolls, buttermilk fried chicken, truffled macaroni and cheese, seafood and chips, parmesan French fries and a several-layer chocolate cake. Harry! What do you think? Should we try it again, next year?
1 Susan Magrino joined me for the weekend at Lily Pond. Here we are dressed for the birthday party - I in Lanvin and she in Michael Kors.
17 The great photographer, Bruce Weber, me, and the great fashion retailer, Mickey Drexler of J.Crew
19 The restaurant brought out the cake - decorated nautically - and Harry and I tried to light the candles.
23 Mickey Drexler, me, and Allen - I am wearing J.Crew necklaces, which look like Georgian antiques.
Susan, my publicist, was so happy to see this blog and she wanted me to add on the photos that she had in her camera from this fun-filled birthday celebration. Some of them may be repeats, but that's okay. Enjoy!

C'mon Martha, you tweeted during dinner! You should know better, that is NOT classy.

Hi Martha, What a delightful joint birthday party you and Harry Slatkin had at Navy Beach. Fun to read that he would like to make it an annual event! Your photos and Susan's were so much fun to enjoy. All of them were great. What fun to see handsome G.K. at that party! He was having as much fun as everyone else! Loved the twitpics you shared about this delightful event, also. Jan

Hello Martha,
Happy belated birthday! My 10 year old daughter Sammy Jo, had her birthday, August 25th. She decided to put pictures of all of her friends on her (ice cream)birthday cake!! How brilliant is that? All her friends were sooo surprised and excited! Sammy herself was in the middle of the cake. Even you could not have thought this one up!

Martha, watched an episode of your show a little while ago in Australia and your guest presented you with a copy of his latest book - I think titled FOLIAGE? Had beautiful photography and obviously well researched. Could you give me details of authour and publisher please? Would like to purchase it for my son for his birthday, he is a plant biologist/geneticist at present doing post doc research work at University of Toronto, Ontario. Would appreciate any information, thank you. Anne F (Wollongong, NSW Australia)
