1 The pool is looking really good at Lily Pond. The plants in all the pots are growing vigorously and the gardens are thriving.
2 The drive at Lily Pond looks very good also. The boxwood have put on a lot of new growth.
3 Carlos walks the dogs on weekends. They love their daily constitutionals.
4 Walking to the beach
5 The ocean was pretty calm and the weather was very, very hot.
6 The houses along this stretch of beach are varied in architecture and are very glorious.
7 It has been said that this is the most beautiful stretch of ocean beach in America - I agree.
8 The sand is clean and powdery white and the beach is wide.
9 The day could not have been better for an early morning walk.
10 This is one of the older Lily Pond houses.
11 And this is one of the newer residences.
12 The late Charles Gwathmey designed this house about 20 years ago.
13 A very new 'chateau' built on the dunes
14 This is a newly renovated mansion.
15 This is the oldest house on this stretch of beach.
16 Breakfast at Lily Pond - yummy smoked salmon
17 And flaky croissants
18 The table was set with Fire-King glass dishes.
19 The table with Charlie Green, my makeup artist, at one end
20 There were four for breakfast.
21 When breakfast was cleared, the same table was set for dinner. The lilies are from my garden in Bedford.
22 We used antique blue ball jars for the flowers.
23 The table nearly set - Pillivuyt French porcelain dishes, depression era hobnail glasses, grange chairs, and lots of McCoy pottery
24 The dead fish taxidermy look like they are swimming on the wall.
25 The lilies were spectacular - great for Lily Pond.
26 Dinner was paella cooked on the grill in a giant pan. This nicely browned chicken was transferred to the larger pan.
27 Here are the paella ingredients all ready to be added in the right order to the hot pan.
28 Chef Pierre cooked over the charcoal and wood fire.
29 Everyone loved watching Pierre's composition.
30 Adding the shrimp and the squid
31 My friends Corneliia and Charlotte
32 Enjoying the show
33 We were all captivated!
34 The aromas were rich with plenty of onions, garlic, red and green pepper, and spicy chorizo.
35 Adding the tomatoes
36 And then the beans and peas
37 Next, the mussels and clams
38 the rice, finally
39 lots of intense discussion about techniques
40 Pierre getting ready to add the broth, dash of cognac, and saffron threads. Once the liquid was absorbed, we feasted!
41 Dessert was passion fruit sorbet and lots of ice cold supremed citrus sections.
Martha, do you want to adopt me? You have such good times.
The houses and the food are spectacular!!
Gloria!!

The pool at Lily Pond is a fine example of how a backyard should look. Fern...always a top choice for me.

What a glamorous life you lead Martha. It just goes to show that hard work and passion are so important. I didn't know that the stretch of beach was so beautiful with the lovely old mansions. I didn't like the new château as much, it looked too new but in time will weather I guess. And the paella. I've always enjoyed watching you make this on tv and it is a spectacle. I've just bought a proper Spanish paella pan too, a little smaller of course!, and cannot wait to try it out with my favourite MSL recipe.

Your place in the Hamptons is wonderful I can see why you enjoy being near the beach. Glad you get to play because you work very hard.
The paella lookes yummie I will have to try it sometime but I don't think I have a pan as large as yours.
Have a great weekend.

Martha, thanks for sharing this blog.

Hi Martha,
Your pool looks so beautiful with the big planters and umbrellas all around. I’ve had planters but with every hurricane warning we’ve had to drag them to shelter and that got tedious over the years. Maybe I should use artificial – Costco has some nice ones that look real.

I think Pierre is my favorite of your chef friends. Whatever he does, he makes it look so easy and then his presentations are to swoon over. He must get a lot of oohs and aahs from the guests! Paella is one of my favorite dishes but I have never had one prepared as fabulous as yours or the one Pierre cooked at Lily Pond. It happens to be the first dish I ever made which tasted good but I was just learning to read directions. When it called for cut-up chicken, I cut all the meat off in chunks! My friend from Columbia wanted to know where the thighs were! Luckily I left the shrimp whole!

Another great thing about that pristine beach is the absence of condos looming in the background. That’s about all we have on our beaches here in South Florida. Well, thanks again for sharing – I never tire of seeing your homes. Have a great weekend! Trish

Martha, those mansions on the beach, I must say are fabulous, and your home may not be as big, by East Hampton standards, but those homes don't look like a home, but instead a piece of property,(you know what I mean?) Your Lily Pond, has the look and feel of a home that you want to come home too everyday. All the lush landscaping, the roses, and trees, and shade gardens, you have around you.. I would rather live in your home any day, than a mega-mansion on the beach, sitting out in the stark sun, without any trees.

Thank you for sharing your walk on the beach. I love looking at houses, too! The paella looks marvelous. What a great idea for a summer dinner!

How pleasing to see the dinner table and surrounding decorations. I must say everyone wore white. How brave of them knowing nothing will be spilled in their laps or on their tops. It does make all the other colors that much more exciting when the guests do not compete with the flowers.
Lovely.

The beach is amazing! I am so excited to try making paella. Never done that before. My daughter worked as the cook on a tall ship in Victoria, B.C. They would travel to remote coastlines, find a beach, build a fire and make paella. It fed all 34 people. I am going to throw a summmer party and make this. Just have to find a pan. Any ideas where to get one this size?

Great use of the orange lilies, which I am certain regardless of zone every gardener has an abundance of right now!

Everything very beautiful, except for that so-called Chateau. It looks like it landed from Mars on to the wrong site.
