The weather for the grilling special was blazing hot - 100-degrees F - with threats of thunderstorms.
My large iron fire pot was put to use in a council fire. Anduin Havens is positioning hay bales around the pit to sit on.
A lovely tent was erected to provide shade by Sperry Tents.
Hosanna Houser and Paul Moreno set up the party area. The furniture is from my line of outdoor patio sets from The Home Depot, called Plum Island.
Scott Ross, Studio Operations Assistant, building the chefs' stations. The tabletops were covered with oil cloth, making them festive and easy to clean.
The setup for my friend, Emeril Lagasse, who's on the show grilling his yummy Red Marble strip steaks.
Elizabeth Karmel of Hill Country Barbecue and Hill Country Chicken http://www.hillcountryny.com/ offered her tips for a spectacular burger bar.
And also her technique for grilling beer can chicken on her specially designed Porcelain Chicken Sitter stands.
Roberto Guerra made the most amazing and succulent Cuban style roasted pig.
I shared some of my favorite summer cocktails.
Paul Moreno and Tamara Dilworth readied the chefs' grilling stations.
The equipment barn was set up as the staging area for all of the props.
Parasols were at the ready in case the sun was just too hot.
Equipment was brought to Bedford from NYC in large plastic bins. Organization is so critical when taping a special, such as this one.
Organizing more props
The flatware was wrapped in bandanas, which were used as napkins.
A sampling of charcoal and various flavoring woods
When soaked in water, these woods provide a wonderful smoky flavor to the food on the grill.
Here I am on set with Roberto Guerra, the expert pig roaster.
Roberto uses a La Caja China roasting box for the pig. It cooks beneath all of these hot coals.
The instructions are printed right on the box.
The coals were removed to reveal a fabulously browned and juicy roasted pig.
It was difficult to get a clear shot of me and Elizabeth Karmel because there were so many video cameras in use.
Getting beauty footage of Elizabeth's burgers
They were beautiful and tasted so good!
Elizabeth's beer can chicken
The chicken was fantastic! - Crispy skin and juicy meat
Elizabeth's book - Taming the Flame
We were using some very serious grills from Weber.
Posing with Brad Farmerie - I couldn't get over how great his food looked and tasted!
What do you think?

Gary Nardilla, my long-time DP, is always so focused when at work.
