Holiday Ideas on The View
Last Thursday, I made an appearance on ABC’s The View, having been invited back as a guest to share some holiday ideas from my new book, Martha’s Entertaining: A Year of Celebrations. I really enjoy these visits because the female co-hosts are so intelligent and engaging. I was greeted by Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Barbara Walters, who is now part-time, was not present because she was in Syria interviewing President Bashar Assad, a very bold move on her part.
2 This long line is for The View. There were people already in line to see me at 4:30AM! They braved the strong winds off the Hudson River.
6 Before arriving at The View, I stopped at my good friend, Daniel Boulud's fabulous bakery, in Lincoln Center to pick up some treats.
9 Thomas Joseph, chef on my TV show, dropped by to review the food demonstration with me. He also gave me some candied nuts he made for my plane ride to Australia later that day. Rebecca Casciano applied my makeup.
13 On the way to the green room, I met Scott Tucker, an Executive Producer at ABC. He has every issue of Living going back to the very first one. Remember this cover? I had no hair or makeup stylists back then.
15 The demonstration tables had serving pieces from my Macy's line, like these great pedestals, upon which Linzer cookies were displayed. They're made with hazelnut dough jam-filled, and dusted with confectioner's sugar.
16 Little ramekins, also from my Macy's line, were used to bake these adorable and delicious individual pear crumbles.
18 These are the ingredients for tiramisu demonstration - Kahlua-flavored espresso, espresso and chocolate-flavored mascarpone, white mascarpone, lady fingers, and whipped cream.
19 The mini tiramisu is made with layers of espresso soaked lady fingers, espresso-flavored chocolate mascarpone, white mascarpone, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings.
20 These are little shortbread wafers topped with lemon curd and meringue caps, which get browned using a pastry blow torch.
22 Over its fourteen year run, The View has had ten co-hosts. Barbara Walters and Joy Behar are the only original ones still on the program.

Martha,
I love seeing behind the scenes when you visit other shows. Why a different makeup artist, you must have a 1000 of them?
`
I wish you a safe journey back from Australia. I miss you, you are too far away! Hurry back! And don't forget to tweet us to keep us posted. Tweet us some funny stuff! Kevin must have been hungry the other day when you tweeted us his food plates!
`
Take care.

Doesn't look like you have snow yet. I don't ride on specific trails. I ride in the San Juan Moutians and surrounding country. Lots of wild life - never went out this past summer that I didn't see bear. By the way, are you familiar with Midnight Fresians? I own one warmblood and one quarter horse and one thoroughbred. Happy trails! GB

It looks as if you were having a good time.
Have fun in Australia. Australia and The British Isles have been my first two choices of a place to visit...if I am ever BLESSED enough to get a chance to go.
Ireland would be my first choice of the BI.
But, I'd like to go into the outback in Australia, not just the cities.
Take care, Gloria!!

Martha welcome to Australia, We are so sorry the weather is not kind to you, we have been having a lot of rain and cooler weather even though it is officialy Summer now, and the long range forecast for Christmas is wet, which will make Traditionalists happy to serve a hot Christmas lunch, even though we usually do seafood because it is usually so hot. I do hope your trip was a success and have a very pleasant and safe journey home.

CBS, ABC, and NBC are so fortunae that you apear on shows, although Hallmark does have best type for your LIVING productions. Keep in touch about Australian visit and thanx for heads up on BW and Bashar al-Assad interview. You do look lovely on VIEW, not a program that I would ordinarily watch but Great that you were there and shared with us.

I love your brown leggings. You are going to have to start telling us who you are wearing! Looking forward to your appearance on the View. You always have great tips. By the way, your suggestion on the Today show in October about lighting a jack o lantern with a string of lights in a mason jar was genius! I usually have to relight my jack o lanterns because the candles blow out from the wind....Never again!! I tried your tip and it was great. Thanks Martha!

Hi Martha, Gosh darn, I had no idea you would be on the View last Thursday so I missed the show:(. It's on at the same time as your TV Show on Hallmark which I watch every day. Sure wish there was a video so I could see it-bet it was a great show! These delightful photos show a great presentation of your preparation and everyone of them is gorgeous and awesome! It does take awhile to prepare for being on a show, doesn't it! You looked so cute getting ready and I love your outfit! My favorite photos were #7,13,17,25,26,29.31,32,34&35! Sure wish I had your 1st MSL Magazine-any way to get it now?! Sure do love your latest tweets and twitpics from Australia-FANYASTIC! Got to see Joey Kola on the Sunday Morning TV Show and that was terrific, also! Thanks for all the sharing you do for us! Off to see The Daily Wag and so happy Ghengish Khan won his Dog Show in Rhode Island! I'm sure Maddox and Paw Paw are thrilled!! Hope you have another great day! Jan

Hi Martha,
I hope you're enjoying your visit to Sydney without too much jet lag. They are 14 hours ahead of us so it's already Tuesday there. I would be like a zombie. Anyway, for those who missed you on the View, here is the link: http://abc.go.com/watch/the-view/SH559080/VD55156991/the-view-128 You can move ahead on the video to third bar if you don't have time to watch the whole show. And speaking of shows - yours is great today with the cookie decorators. They are so artistic! Trish

Just watched the Funny or Die clip of you and Conan. Hilarious!!! RE: My Little Ponies, when my son was very little, he had an extensive collection of My Little Ponies. (He doesn't really play with them anymore.) He's moved on to sewing lunch bags from a pattern he got from your craft book on a Martha Stewart sewing machine. He's 11 and asked me for a subscription to Martha Stewart Living for Christmas. Set it up yesterday...so YES, little boys also like My Little Pony.

I loved your TV show, very seldom ever missed a show. I am so sad that we no longer have access to it. I miss the show, it was such a great mix of people, food, crafts and general interest. I hope you will be available to us again sometime. All the best, bk
