My Christmas Holiday
Many of you have been wondering how I spent my Christmas holiday and I thought I’d give you a little peek. It was a very special time for me, as I got to spend it with my daughter, Alexis, and with my granddaughter, baby Jude. As you can imagine, I am a very proud grandmother!
We had Christmas Eve dinner at Alexis' apartment.
Alexis made whole wheat linguine with osetra caviar, butter, and lemon. It was very, very delicious and so simple to make.
The dinner also included an arugula salad from the Bedford greenhouse. Dessert was raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries - light but elegant - remember we had to get into bathing suits in two days!
As usual, Alexis wrapped her presents very beautifully, using lots of satin ribbon - all the ribbon is recycled, of course.
On Christmas morning, I cooked and pureed a lot of the recently picked root vegetables from the farm for baby Jude's food. The beets were delicious and densely flavorful.
Like the beets, these parsnips were picked from the outside garden, and after a snow and a frost, they were especially sweet and tender.
This is spinach and Swiss chard, steamed and pureed. Alexis freezes them in ice cube trays and then stores the cubes in small air tight containers. The ice cube trays are made by Onyx in Canada.
I drank lots of mint tea in Alexis' simple glass cups.
Tender garden carrots from my vegetable greenhouse also made an excellent puree for the baby.
This is the parsnip puree about to be put into the freezer.
After breakfast and pureeing, Jude and I went for a walk in the West Village. We came upon a restaurant, which was closed, where we discovered two resident cats sunning themselves in the window.
Baby Jude played with the cats and the cats played back!
Are you taking my picture?
We walked by Buvette to see the new winter door awning/enclosure, which is very nice. There is a story about this unusual restaurant in the February issue of Martha Stewart Living.
Baby Jude met up with some firefighters, who had been called to a false alarm. They posed with her for a photo on Christmas morning.

Kevin wrapped a very large present for baby Jude.
She needed Alexis' help opening an enormous hat box filled with unusual stuffed toys to add to her collection.

The Maras gave Jude her first football jersey. They are owners of our favorite team, the New York Giants! It was a great first Christmas for the baby and for us!
