My Christmas Holiday
Many of you have been wondering how I spent my Christmas holiday and I thought I’d give you a little peek. It was a very special time for me, as I got to spend it with my daughter, Alexis, and with my granddaughter, baby Jude. As you can imagine, I am a very proud grandmother!
2 Alexis made whole wheat linguine with osetra caviar, butter, and lemon. It was very, very delicious and so simple to make.
3 The dinner also included an arugula salad from the Bedford greenhouse. Dessert was raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries - light but elegant - remember we had to get into bathing suits in two days!
4 As usual, Alexis wrapped her presents very beautifully, using lots of satin ribbon - all the ribbon is recycled, of course.
5 On Christmas morning, I cooked and pureed a lot of the recently picked root vegetables from the farm for baby Jude's food. The beets were delicious and densely flavorful.
6 Like the beets, these parsnips were picked from the outside garden, and after a snow and a frost, they were especially sweet and tender.
7 This is spinach and Swiss chard, steamed and pureed. Alexis freezes them in ice cube trays and then stores the cubes in small air tight containers. The ice cube trays are made by Onyx in Canada.
11 After breakfast and pureeing, Jude and I went for a walk in the West Village. We came upon a restaurant, which was closed, where we discovered two resident cats sunning themselves in the window.
14 We walked by Buvette to see the new winter door awning/enclosure, which is very nice. There is a story about this unusual restaurant in the February issue of Martha Stewart Living.
15 Baby Jude met up with some firefighters, who had been called to a false alarm. They posed with her for a photo on Christmas morning.

Martha, I'm glad you got to spend time with your family during Christmas. Enjoy every second of it, and them.
Jude's jersey is cute.

Looks like you all had a wonderful first Christmas with baby Jude. I love how she's just kind of hanging out with the firemen, with Sharkey & G.K. like she does it everyday. No big deal.
My favorite photo by far is of her in her Eli Manning jersey and Giants sherpa hat. She has no idea how many Giants fans would beg, borrow, or steal to get a Christmas present like that from the Maras.

Hi Martha,
Thanks for sharing your precious holiday pictures with us. Baby Jude is a little sweetheart and very lucky to have such a great mom and grandmother who prepare non-processed baby food for her. She certainly looks very healthy. I too like her Giants jersey and hat. That was a good game the other day when the Giants beat the Cowboys, and now the play-offs start Saturday. Thanks again for your pictures and I hope you’re enjoying your vacation even though it got kind of cool in the Caribbean. I bet some people were still swimming though! Trish

Seeing these pictures makes me think Baby Jude may easily become a farmer, a fireman or do we call them fire woman (?) but hopefully she does not dream dreams of being a football player.
Thanks Martha and Alexis for sharing Jude with us.

What a special Christmas, Martha. Thanks for sharing your photos. The dinner looked amazing and Jude is a precious angel. I love the firefighter photo! It was also nice to see the Onyx ice-cube trays from Canada. My parents have several older ones of a similar design that they inherited from my grandmother. I love how weighty they are.

Beautiful pics! - Wished I had a grand child to share Christmas but maybe one of these days! I love how simple Alexis is with her table setting. She is definitely the opposite of how I'm sure your table looks for holidays! My oldest daughter is kind of the same. I think I've overwhelmed her growing up with being so anal about having things just so. She loves it but doesn't follow in my shoes! LOL
