To avoid the crowded roadways of the bustling Hamptons, I took the small ferry boats to the North Fork. The first boat takes you from Sag Harbor to Shelter Island. You drive to the other side of Shelter Island and board a second ferry to Greenport.
The wind was from the northwest and the ferry boat was challenged to stay on course.
That's Shelter Island Harbor. After days of cold, rainy weather, it was great to see sun and blue sky.
Arriving at Susan and Jim's Orient Point home, I was surprised that the dining pavilion, adjacent to the pool house, was empty. Susan said we would be eating there.
Well, remember that northwest wind? Susan had to move the tables to the other side of the house, out of the wind. She even used clips to secure the tablecloths.
She set the tables with a festive Memorial Day theme, using Bambu plates purchased at Amazon.com.
Last year for Susan's birthday, Jim gave her this 60-foot swimming pool, which he landscaped himself. The plants are filling in nicely.
A nice shot of Susan
We went for a tour of the pool house.
One of Susan's favorite designers is Pucci and she has a sizable collection of Pucci beach towels.
Susan is a collector of many things and she found this great shell table at Beals & Bell, a fabulous antique shop in nearby Greenport.
Susan has an interesting collection of art. The painting on the left is by the late Kevin Berger, who used to work for me. It is part of his Eiffel Tower series. The one on the right is by a local artist, Alan Bull, of the Orient Historical Society Gift Shop.
This is a triptych by James Napolean of Gardeners Island.
This is Bergdorf Goodman's Linda Fargo and Susan Magrino Dunning, our hostess.
Here we are in front of that triptych.
This is a really terrific vintage map of Long Island.
Susan had Lucy and Erin from Fork & Anchor in East Marion cater the event. They do nice work.
There was a wonderful selection of cheeses from the Village Cheese Shop in Mattituck.
The house is located upon a bluff overlooking Long Island Sound.

Dinner included nice salads, burgers, bratwurst, and keilbase.
The outside porch has clear plastic windscreens which, thankfully, performed very well.

Another view of the dining pavilion, which is a great place to eat when the weather cooperates.
These are the slate steps which lead down to the beach.
