Farewell to Bartok the Cat
Farewell to my beautiful Bartok.
Bartok passed away at 19-years of age. He was a most handsome and elegant seal point Himalayan who was admired by everyone who visited my farm. Bartok was also the last of six cats I purchased from Connecticut breeder, Jo Ubogy, and affectionately named after great classical composers - his brothers were Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Verdi and Berlioz. Himmies, as cat fanciers call them, are wonderful companions, but Bartok was especially sweet-tempered, calm and gentle. He loved to be petted and groomed, and always came running whenever I called his name. He loved his meals at the kitty buffet in my servery, and he loved spending time relaxing on the veranda, and strolling around the gardens near my home. I will miss him very much and so will my other cats and dogs.

Bartok looked so regal resting on the stone landing.
He was very affectionate and loved when I held him.
Lounging in a sun-drenched room next to a jar of catnip - what else could a cat ask for?
Bartok had the most striking blue eyes.
I keep all the cats' food in my servery, where the dogs cannot access it. Bartok loved dining at the "kitty buffet."
Every morning, Bartok meowed for his breakfast. He loved his daily routine and was a good eater.
Bartok had the most beautiful coat, too. Seal points have dark brown coloring on all their "points" - face, ears, feet and tail.
My cats have always stayed near the house. Here was Bartok - so beautiful on the upper terrace parterre outside my large front porch.
Inside, Bartok was often found on one of the dining room chairs in my bird room. At night, he liked sleeping under the canary cage.
He was very photogenic, and never seemed to mind his picture being taken.
In fact, he was an excellent model. Here he was resting on a towel-lined Martha Stewart Pets bed from PetSmart - all my cats love their beds.
Bartok often came out to greet friends and guests - he adored the attention and was very, very friendly.
My dear boy had the sweetest, most gentle temperament.
He was pensive, intelligent, patient and nice.
Here were Verdi, Bartok and Vivaldi - dressed up for a New Year's party.
Plates of their favorite foods were set out in the servery along with several of their toys. Bartok was so handsome in his hat.
This was Bartok - "reflecting" on the past year, or wondering why he was wearing the hat.

Very serious Bartok - perhaps the camera interrupted his nap?
Bartok also loved sitting on this settee in my foyer. I line favorite resting places with towels to protect the furniture, but the cats also find it very cozy.
Bartok had a most gorgeous face.
It wasn't hard to find Bartok - he often came when he heard his name.

Here was Bartok taking another cat nap.
"Don't you want to play with me, or give me a little rub behind the ears?"
My pets are often photographed for the magazines, my television shows, or the web site, so they get accustomed to shoots from an early age. Here was Bartok on another bed from my collection at PetSmart. (Photo by William Brinson)
This photo was one of the last I took of my sweet boy.
A gentle and loving soul.
Rest in peace, Bartok.
