Gallery: The Marc Jacobs fashion show, amazing designs and plenty of celebrities!

September 8, 2008
Martha attends the Marc Jacobs fashion show in NYC and documents it with her camera. Read the Original Post

When we arrived at 8:50PM, this was the crowd outside the armory - Marc has an incredible following and the crowd proved it.
Walking in following a sea of backs of heads!
We were greeted by an assistant of Marc's, who recognized us and walked us in through the vast crowd. There were hundreds of fashion press, TV correspondents, an army of Marc Jacobs positioned photographers to record the evening, and of course, just plain fans, such as myself, who love fashion and fashion designers.
Two famous New York 'ladies' - sporting outrageous makeup and wigs that resembled cotton candy.
The giant stand of press photographers representing newspapers and magazines from all over the world. The two weeks of fashion shows, each spring and fall, are the busiest times for these photographers.
Handsome men - including models, movie stars, and athletes - flock to the shows, each looking for something.
more of the crowd
Dennis Friedman, creative director of all Fairchild Publications, including the famous W Magazine, was, of course, seated front and center.
The very beautiful Helena Christiansen, in a teeny miniskirt, with her rocker boyfriend -Paul Banks of Interpol- they had been my guests this spring aboard Charles' yacht, when it was moored in NYC Harbor.
Wynona Ryder greeting a friend - she is a favorite of the designers and attends several of the most popular shows.
Wynona caught in a rather pensive attitude.
Bill Cunnningham, (on the right) of the New York Times, doesn't seem to miss a show.
I sat next to the very talented hockey player, Sean Avery, formerly of the NY Rangers, now of the Dallas Stars. He loved the show and laughed and clapped all the while looking for the most beautiful of the girls wearing Marc's latest fashions.i wonder if he singled one out- he did not say
The long stage was positioned with hundreds of standing mirrored reflectors.
A fan wearing a gorgeous pastel taffeta frock.
One of the myriad fashion photographers trying to position himself strategically.
The most popular and well-known fashion photographer - the inimitable Patrick McMullan. He has had a long and very busy career - he is now publishing popular books of his photos.
Who is he?
The very dapper Andre Leon Talley, from Vogue, awaiting the real action - the show!
Dress after dress paraded down the long runway, each reflected a thousand times in the mirrored 'tablets'.
Almost every model donned a flat little straw hat, carried a large and interesting bag, and wore an amazing pair of platform shoes!
Amidst the cheering crowds and pounding music, the models paraded, as if they were the only beings in the room.
There were pants, culottes, short-shorts, skirts, and tunics - topped off with shirts, bustiers, vests, shrugs, sunglasses, jewelry, and, of course, that signature hat!
Teetering shoes and colorful, rich fabrics.
Pouting, unsmiling, serious, swaggering - each model was in her own special little world oblivious of the chaos around her.
a jacket and skirt
lurex, wool, gold, and silver
Cut-off trousers, a clutch bag, big bangles - all part of Marc's look for Spring 2009.
