Speaking at the Pot & Kettle Club in Bar Harbor, Maine
During the month of August, I had the wonderful opportunity of speaking to an audience at The Pot and Kettle Club, located in Bar Harbor, Maine. The subject of my speech was about how inspiring Maine has been to me personally, since acquiring my home, Skylands. I spoke of how we have featured Maine in at least 50 magazine stories and how this beautiful state has been the setting of 79 of our television segments.
The Pot and Kettle Club is an exclusive gentlemen’s club with about 120 members. During the months of July and August, this long-time institution inspires its members and their guests by inviting speakers of prominence and expertise in a given field – government, business, the arts, the media, the environment, medicine, etc. – followed by a question and answer period. It was my second time speaking there and I sincerely hope The Pot and Kettle Club will ask me back again.

The first thing I do every morning is get online just to see your beautiful, inspiring photos. Thank you for the artful way that you live and sharing it with us. P.S. how are you so skinny being around such wonderful food? If you ever get around to writing a beauty and exercise book I will have to buy it.

My mother had the same rug in our dining room in Boston as the one in the club in Maine. It must have been purchased in the late 50's and was still there when we sold the house in '99. I always loved it and so was happy to see it again- thanks for reminding me of all the happy time in that room.

Maine at Skylands is like a dream, a beautiful dream. Sharkey and Francesca are dreaming heavenly dreams it looks like in the picture. Martha, how does one inspire their surroundings like you do? You and Maine are one. Your photos show such beauty. Nan

Hi Martha, Was your blog shut down for a while yesterday? After I posted a comment @ 10:41 AM, I did a bunch of other things and when I returned to your blog @ 1:00PM I couldn't get to it and I couldn't sign into your website. I thought something was wrong with my computer, so I did a lot of adjusting on my computer to no avail. After restarting my computer several times, I finally was successful in signing in and getting back to your wonderful blog! What a day! Jan

Hi martha
This year for the first time I tried canning.
One of thing I canned was tomato sauce, yesterday I made lasagna with it I seasoned it like I would if it came out of a can BUT went it was done there was no real taste to it. Is there some thing special you have to do when using home made tomato sauce like alot more seasoning. Thanks
Karen
