An evening of comedy, dinner, and dancing at the Ross School
I spent this past weekend at my home in East Hampton at the eastern end of Long Island. On Saturday evening, I had the great pleasure of attending the Ross School's Sixth Annual Live At Club Starlight Benefit for Ross Scholarships. I was actually this year's Honoree, recognized for my belief in the power of learning, for my achievements as a teacher, and for serving as an inspiration to children everywhere. The Ross School is an extraordinary learning establishment founded in 1991 by Courtney and her late husband Steven J. Ross. It is heralded for its unique and progressive curriculum, serving students from grades K-12. Ross provides an educational experience, which gives its students a global perspective making them familiar with all cultures.
It was an evening of comedy, dinner, and dancing, featuring Seth Meyers of Saturday Night Live and a special performance by Alexa Ray Joel - Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley's daughter! I also presented the Martha Stewart scholarship to the amazing Greg Grossman, the accomplished 14-year-old chef. Watch this video clip about the Ross School from my television show and please, tell me what you think.

.
Now this is what I love to see!
Biggest congratulations.

Hi Martha, First of all congratulation for being the Ross School's Honoree of the year! I certainly agree with them on why they chose you because you affect the lives of anyone who will take the time to listen and learn about all of the things that you have to offer. You will always be number one in my book! Your blogs are getting better all the time and this one is spectacular! I really enjoyed looking at the video again and being reminded about what a fantastic school the Ross School is and all of the positive things they are teaching these lucky students. Oh, how I wish they had been established back when I started teaching in 1959. I would have loved to be a part of their program because I believe in everything that they are doing. Best wishes to everyone involved, including you. Great photos again, too. Thanks again for all you do. Jan

It is great to see you enjoy giving back to the next generation. I hope that our public schools do more in teaching a global view. I found myself fighting many barriers doing that work within the public schools when I taught foreign languages. We have a far way to go on arriving at that place. Good luck with your future scholars!

Good Morning!, Ms. Honoree!
Martha, I remember watching your segment on the Ross School. Thinking back to the early 90's, I'm sure that a friend of mine actually went to work there in '93. Her description of the school matched yours perfectly, so who knows?
The school is awe-inspiring and a much needed model to follow, as our country's school systems 'try, try, again' to become more effective and efficient. No talent or gift seems to go untended...plant those seeds early so they can establish good root! I praise the school for offering a healthy environment for the body, soul *and* mind.
Good luck! to the dashing, young Chef Grossman! And 'Well Done!, Courtney (and Steven J.) Ross!
Dancing??? I didn't see any 'dancing' pics! Did you 'cut a rug', Martha!?! or not!?!

I have to admit I was a bit skeptical of this school while watching the video. A school like that can only exist if there is lots of money which you have in a private school environment in a tony part of NY. So I was super glad to hear Courtney talk about her efforts to spread the school's teaching philosophy to public schools around the world. That's a really great cause, and kudos to you, Martha, for supporting it.

I think that is one fantastic school and the children who are able to attend are very lucky but I’m sure they already know that. The school seems to be fulfilling their mission quite admirably and I like that they are engaging fully in the global community. The fact that you endorse and support it says a lot too. I thought it was great that you raised $25,000 for the school right on the spot when you offered to host a dinner for 12 at one of your homes. That was quicker than Twitter!
Congratulations on being the well-deserved Honoree this year. You ARE a great teacher and I think I am well aware of your belief in the power of learning. I feel lucky to be part of the Martha Stewart School of Learning. It’s always nice when someone wants to know where I learned how to do something and I get to say, “From Martha.” Sometimes they just say, “I suppose you learned that from Martha!”
Looks like everyone had a great time too! Trish

I remember this program when it aired & have not ever forgot it. I often think about it. One can imagine sitting with great scholars in ancient times learning in venues like this. Give my eye teeth if our Will was schooling this way! As always M - wonderful work - congratulations - please keep on teaching.
