Rest In Peace Mozart the Cat
Mozart passed away at nineteen years of age. He was a very beautiful lynx Himalayan, a rather rare variety of my favorite breed of cat. He was bred in Connecticut and I waited patiently a long time for him. As a kitten, Mozart was especially adorable. As he matured, his adult personality was that of an elusive, mysterious, and most wonderful feline. When friends and guests would come to visit, a favorite game was to try and spot or catch a glimpse of Mozart. I will certainly miss him and so will my other cats and dogs.

Dear Martha, Mozart sure was a pretty cat. I'm sorry for your loss. My kitty was 18 years old when she died and it felt like a loss of a family member. I'll always love and remember her, as I'm sure you will Mozart! It is amazing to me how much our animals enrich our lives. I'm always pleased to see your animals included on your blog. Best wishes...

It has been a sad day for animal news, first news of Mozart's passing this morning on Twitter then my friend Paula's 13 1/2 year old Yorkie passes away this morning unexpectedly, her little dog Stewart was named after you Martha. 10 days ago her Mama Yorkie passed away at 16 years old - little Bridget. Today wasn't a happy day for my friends and their companions of so many lovely years. Crossing the Rainbow Bridge all together is how I like to think about them, one last journey home!

Dearest Martha, It is so hard to lose a beloved animal and I know that Mozart was truly loved by all who knew him personally or through your magazines, shows, fantastic photos, etc. He certainly did have a beautiful life and now he can join all of your other animals under God's care. I love these photos of Mozart that you shared with us today. He was an absolutely adorable kitten and as you said he grew into a very wise and regal cat. My first thought when I saw the photo of him sitting looking into the camera was what is he thinking and how wise he must be. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm sure you will be hugging all of your other animals a little more tightly tonight. All my love to you and them, Jan

Dear Martha,
So many sensitive and heart-felt comments about Mozart. Your animals have made as huge of an impact on us as you have, it seems. I'm not one to cut out magazine advertisement photos BUT years ago I saw one with you laying beach-style on a bed (you had on lavender sneakers, too)with a stack of folded-up Martha Stewart towels. The selling point for me was your cat curled up next to you asleep on the Martha Stewart sheets! I'm not sure which cat of yours I saw but that photo is still posted on my shelf! Thank you for sharing the photos and memories of Mozart with us. I have no doubt that your sweet baby is resting in the most peaceful paradise anyone can imagine.

Look at all the posts here today, Martha...I haven't gotten to read them yet, but there are many - I reiterate how we love you so AND your pets and your extended family of staff there at your farm and at work.
I enjoyed seeing Mozart up close in his photos and studying his features. Seeing your cats in group photos always caused me to wonder which one was which. He was a beautiful boy, full of expression (oh, that face!) My Edgar is almost 18, and we at our home are v-e-r-y aware of his mortality. Only the Lord knows which day will be his last. (But this is about Mozart today!)
Even tho' you have many cats, I know in my heart that you'll miss Mozart, because I surmise that you know individualistic traits in your animals that makes them unique and stand apart from the others.
I share deeply your sorrow, Martha. May you find comfort in the loving memories you hold in your heart.

Dear Martha,
So sorry to hear about Mozart. I found this verse that brought me comfort during my time of loss.

I have recently created a web site to honor both living and deceased pets,http://appreciateyourpet.com and would like to offer you complimentary pet appreciation memorials not only for Mozart, but also for your dear Paw Paw. Martha,
This poem was given to me when I lost my beloved pet:
"The Rainbow Bridge"
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sincerely,
Marie

We too, just two weeks ago, lost our oldest - 14 year old Chaucer - a wonderful bobtailed tuxedo cat. The bobbed tail was the result of an early scrap when he was a stray. They come into our lives and make such a home there, don't they? Like Chaucer, I suspect Mozart had a wonderful life. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Very very sorry to hear about Mozart.
Our first kitty died at age 20 after years of tender loving care. Our dog is 18 this year. Taking care of senior pets requires a very special person so Mozart was lucky to be sure. Our other cat was sick last week, doing better now but it can be stressful.
May Mozart find green pastures of field mice and to romp with and may you know he is always with you.

Such a sweet looking kitty. In the last year I have lost 2 of my precious cats so I do know how hard it is.
I love your hair in the first picture, it is really cute cute in short layers. Ever consider doing that again.

My heartfelt sorrows go out again for you Beautiful Pet. I got a little choked up about it, and these are the reasons see my cat is 15, and is a little stiff in the hips. I don't know quite what i would do if she didn't greet me after work waiting for dinner. It a cute routine that goes back along way. I know the quirks of Mozart and the passing of him will be sad. Martha please take care of the rest of your little and not so little darlings, It will help. Sending you peace of the heart and the mind!

Having parted the way,how do we measure
The heartfelt memories that are the treasure
Wonderful,mysterious,elusive Mozart,
Possessed a piece of Martha's heart.
Explorer extraordinaire, with fluffy pants and tail
Hard to catch a glimpse as he wandered hill and dale
His regal face and frown, will certainly be missed
But his imprint is everywhere, his domain enriched
A playpal for Franny and all the Martha gang.
Cherished Spirit, out of time, danced to Yin and Yang.

Sorry for the loss of your family member.
What a beautiful cat. It's never easy to say Goodbye to a loved one, who is also a special family member.
Check out my blog, it is devoted to animals. I too an an animal lover.
I like to think that when an animal lover passes to the Kingdom of Heaven that all our animals that have passed before us, and all those animals who died by the hands of cruelty, will come to meet us and welcome us with warm and wet kisses, those we have been cruel to animals will have no such welcome.
There is nothing greater than the love of an animal in our lives.
Blessings to you Martha,

I am truly sorry that you've lost your beloved Mozart. We are also a cat loving family. In addition we own a pet cemetery and I sometimes perform services when we inter a pet. One of the things I always say to the grieving owners is that their animal was one of the lucky ones. He had a loving home with warmth and food and good care. You can take comfort in the fact that you provided all that for your darling, beautiful Mozart and that you gave him a happy life.

Martha,
I am sorry to hear about Mozart. It is difficult to lose a pet. I lost my Lynx-point Himalayan, Moose, almost 2 years ago and I have his ashes on my dresser along with all of his photos. He looked very much like Mozart and I would love to send you pictures of him. Just let me know where to send them and I will follow through. They could have been brothers. I now have a Tuxedo-cat that I rescued from the Human Society. She is almost 9 months old and is my world. I hope you will get another kitty, not to replace Mozart, but to fill up the empty spot that all our departed pets leave behind.
My condolences to you.

Dear Martha, I know exactly what you are feeling and going through right now. The pain will pass in time, the sadness will last forever but so will the joy and wonderful memories of such a beautiful and personable member of your family. We had our poodle Louie for 18 years. He's gone now 10 years and there have been other dogs in our life. But none will ever take the place of our Louie. I still choke up, but am so grateful that we rescued him - or was it the other way around. You are in my thoughts and heart. I am so sorry for your loss.

Our 16 year old Tortoise hair died just three years ago, on June 15, 2006. Her last several months she sat, ate and slept on a terry towel on our kitchen counter, only jumping down to use the litter box, then right back up! She absolutely knew when she was about to pass, as she almost eagerly sprinted to a seldom used half bath. I knew, too, and placed her on a fresh blanket. I just let her be and she died there 2 hours later.
The friendly liquor store owner provided one of those wooden liquor display boxes with the sliding top for her casket. I buried her under the dogwood.
We know how tough it is to lose a loved pet. And I really believe that in God's scheme of nature they have a spirit that continues somewhere, somehow, just as we do. God Bless.

Dear Martha Stewart, So sorry for your loss. We know that the memories will comfort you in this SAD time. As cat lovers ourselves, we have lost a few over the last 20 years but with the best of love and care, ALL had stayed with us for about 18 - 20 years. With a new group now, Chloe, Beau, Brie, Ringo and Roxy they too bring us a world of new found love and joy! Hope your other pets will comfort you as well. REST IN PEACE MOZART and I will say a lil prayer in church for you on Sunday. You are in a much better place and one day Mommie will be with you again! The Lewnes Family

Dear Martha,
Oh, how precious was your Mozart! What a great cat.My condolences on your loss. It has been 5 years since I lost my own Himalayan mix Felicity to kidney failure at 16 years, and I still miss that cat!
She was a lot like your Mozart. Elusive, regal and very intelligent. You could almost see wheels turning when she sized things up! She was also a one person cat, she liked me and that was pretty much it. And sometimes I had to wonder about that, because she was so elusive. Either way, my life was so much richer because of her.
Bless you Martha and Bless little Mozart too.
May your memories bring you comfort.

Martha, I am so very sorry for your loss. I just lost a cat myself a few months ago. He was the sweetest, most lovable friend ever. His name was Tigger. I miss him dearly. So does my other cat, his best friend, Cole. I keep pictures of him everywhere, it helps with closure and makes me smile.

I am so sorry for your loss. I understand what a long relationship with your beloved Mozart meant to you. Loosing a member of one's animal family can be as traumatic as loosing our human counterparts.. and your feline friend that lasted 19 years is a testament to your love and caring.. Bless you and remember, you will be with him again.. I just know it.. Meanwhile, love and remember him and the fun times and the happiness he brought you..

Dear Martha,
A well loved animal is grieved whether 19 minutes or 19 years of age.... What little time we have together in love never quite seems enough.
Thank you for your moving tribute to Mozart, who I can see was well loved. Our animals are immortal souls housed in shimmering, evanescent temporal lives--Mozart lives on in the love you shared, and in the energetic soul connection that can never die.
God bless you as you mourn Mozart.

I'm very sorry for your loss. We recently lost our 22.5 year old tortoise-shell shorthair girl, Jasmine. She died in our daughter's arms as she and our son drove to the vet. Cats are special animals that work their way into your heart and give lots of love. Take care.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how you feel I lost my beloved Simba last year from liver cancer he was going on 14. When he meowed it sounded at times like mom when he wanted me he was at the vet and keep going mom mom when I got there they told me he was calling for me he died a short time later in mine and my daughters arms. We all still miss him.
I know Mozart bought you as much Joy and Simba did to me they become like our children.

So sorry for your loss of Mozart. He was a beautiful cat and I'm sure well loved. All of us who are pet owners know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. We can only love and care for them the best we can and then let them go when the time comes and comfort ourselves with the memories. It's never easy to go through the pain of losing a pet, but we can be grateful for the time and love we shared with them. Thankfully, the love we gain always outweighs the pain of losing.

We wish you well and wish you good fortune in finding...not a replacement...but a new addition to your pet family.. condolences.

Dear Martha,
So sorry to hear about Mozart's passing. Your love of animals and care for them is a great role model for all who watch you. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. May you find comfort in knowing that your kitty is probably with Paw Paw and Big Martha in heaven.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you for the loss of Mozart. I remember him 10 or 15 years ago making appearances in the previous Martha Stewart Television series. He was always a little camera shy, it seemed, but so very wise looking.
My friend also lost 2 of her Himalayan cats, a father and daughter within 3 days of each other. I am sure that Mozart is playing with PawPaw now. Take time to heal Martha, I have lost many animal family members of mine, its like losing a child.
God bless you Martha

Dearest Martha,
I am sorry for the loss of your dear companion, Mozart. His long life is a testament to your exquisite care and love of him.
In 2008, I experienced the passing of two pets: one, my Aimee, a 15 yr. old blue point Himalayan; and Rose, our 11-1/2 year old English Bulldog.
We shall always remember our pets unique personalities and the happiness they brought us.
I said to my husband I didn't want any more pets after that, but within a month, he surprised me with an exotic short hair cat whom I named Sophie & I now adore! In fact, he recently has surprised me with another exotic short hair cat and we leave for Arkansas tomorrow to get her. These two exotics join my 15 year old Blue cream Persian, Lily.
You, Martha, are a special friend indeed, to your pets!

I am sorry to hear about Mozart I don't know if you ever read the poem " The Rainbow Bridge" I am not sure who wrote it but it is about our pets, whether furry, feathered, or under water they cross over this bridge with other animals and angels waiting for them. I have a pin made by Kirks Folly and it has the poem I do hope that Mozart has his nice sunny spot and a big planter full of catnip

I am so sorry about your loss, I know how it feels to lose a " feline friend" , my beloved cat Brooklyn ( he looked just like Morris) died in my arms 3 months ago

When my cat, Snubby, died at the age of 21, I was grief stricken. He had lived with me all his life having been born in my daughter's bed while she lay sleeping. I still remember her at the age of 4 and 1/2 coming into our bedroom to announce, "Mommy, there are mice in my bed."
Take comfort in knowing that your Mozart, like our Snubby, and a long and well loved life. Bless you and all your furries.

I too lost a cat of 19 years. Millie was a furry little sister to my daughter, Sara.
When Millie died, I remember reading about a book call Good-bye My Friend by Mary&Herb Montgomery. The little book was a great comfort to the family.
I keep 5 copies of it around at all time to give to my friends when their pets pass on.

Martha, I'm so sorry to hear about Mozart's passing. I too love the Himalayan breed and have had 2 seal points. My Bianca will be 21 this August! She too was evasive in her early years but now tries to be close by which gives occasion for that gentle hug and scratch between the ears! I know how much she'll be missed. I'm sure PawPaw and Ghengis Khan will be waiting. Warmly Ellen

Mozart is a name associated with great artistic beauty to the point of divinity, and also the brevity of life.
Each of our cherished furry angel friends, companions and lovers is a care package from heaven of warm and enduring love somehow dropped from a celestial space craft down into a sometimes cold and loveless world. Knowing our own time is brief and theirs even briefer makes them all the more precious and they teach a lesson to us to truly treasure those we love and learn how to make the most of our time together so that although we may have grief, we have no regrets lavishing our love on them every day of their lives.

Loosing a pet is really like loss of a family member. They love us unconditionally. I also had a
kitty that looked like Mozart except he had no tail. That look on his face was priceless. To me it said "you want me to do what? Yeah right! Only cause I want to." Seeing Mozart's pictures before really remind me of my Leo I will see in heaven one day. He will sit on my lap and purr only because he wants to. So will your Mozart. Blessings and peace in your heart Martha.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am a cat person. I recently lost June one of my Maine Coon cats. She was sort of a mystical cat. She had been ill a while and my vet did a paw print and mailed it to me. She was not quite five years old. Her brother Gus misses her terribly. But once upon I time I had this wonderful cat by the name of Dezia. She lived to be 21 years old. She has been gone since 2001 and I still miss her at times. Dezia liked to have T.S, Elliot cat poems read to her. I think she liked the "OH Cat" part the best. Pets bring much to our lives- a place for laughter, a place to be still and quiet and sometimes when no one else can help- a place of comfort. Loss of a beloved pet will always leave an empty spot that never quite gets filled, but with time is not so empty because a thought will cross your mind of how they would do this or that. It will bring at first a tear but later a smile, and so it goes.
Take care.

Dear Martha,
So sorry to hear of the loss of your dear Mozart. I know both the joy of sharing my life with pets and sadness that comes with their loss. I am sure your other pets will notice it as well. I like to think of them awaiting us happily for when we come and join them in the afterlife. We are surely blessed whose lives are touched by wonderful creatures of this world.
My tuxedo Jack is sitting on my lap as I write this. He's like velcro, he sticks to me all the time. He is so jealous of Rocki, my grey tabby. He almost does not let her get near me, but she manages to sneak her special time with her mama.

Himalayan cats are my favorite, as well. I had three who each lived until the age of 12. When each of them passed, I literally fell to my knees in grief. I was always a "cat person"; but after my Dad died, I encountered a Lhasa Apso puppy that I just had to have. He is now 9 and recently had an operation on one of his disks...He was in the hospital one month...I prayed every day for his recovery...and it is finally happening. God provides these "angels with fur" for a reason. They are more than pets, they are angels sent from Heaven above! Sorry, Martha...I know how you love your little ones.

Word will not fill the void; however, knowning that the emotions of a loss so personal has been shared by other may be reassurance that all is 'normal'. Time heals but does not erase the joyful and personal memories. Each of us finds our own way to peronalize and memoralize the passing in a way that allows the physical separation to become a conjoined spiritual experience. It does not come easily nor does it ever replace the physical experience shared. However, it does give recognition to the cycles of life and the small footprints in the sand. Rejoice in the path shared knowing that you were receptive to its energy and trust. Just because you are no longer physically touching does not mean you are no longer connected.

Dear Martha,
I was introduced to the breed many years ago, by a friend who had
10 or so. He was not a breeder he just loved them all and they were
dear pets. I recently lost my dear Shorthair Himalayan, Puccini and I
know the pain of losing our dear pets. The pain is terrible but they all
remain dear sweet memories for all of our lives; and I like to think that
the poem "The Rainbow Bridge" is the way it is when we all meet again
in heaven.
Rest in Peace, dear Mozart; with all the dear ones who went before you.

Dear Martha - I'm so very sorry about your Mozart. The loss of a much-loved pet is very painful and is the downside of life with these wonderful creatures. In 2000 I lost my 19 year old kitty, Skeeze. In 2002 I lost her 21 year old brother, Anthony. And just this past March, I lost my 15 year old Mr. Pie. These loses are crushing but I take comfort in the kitties I have now....Molly, Mattie, Minnie, Mouse, Lady, Daisy, Sassy and Frankie. All my kitties have always been rescued ferals who turned out to be the dearest lovebugs you could imagine. One day, their time too will come to cross over the Rainbow Bridge, but the joy and comfort and companionship and love they unconditionally give you are memories to cherish.

Dear Martha:
As the person of an 18 year old cat, I sympathize with your loss. I wonder every day when I get home, will this be the day Bea doesn't come down for dinner. But she keeps trucking, just like the Energizer Bunny. Your Mozart gave you many years of love and joy, but now he is over the Rainbow Bridge, to make room in your home and heart for another animal in need of love and safety.

Dear Martha,
So sorry to hear about Mozart, I know you will miss him as you have all your pets. They are sent into our lives for such a short time and to take a piece of our hearts with them when they leave us. In the last three years we have lost 17 of our babies (all cats) I got into rescue when we lived in Florida and I couldn't bear it when people gave lame excuses for not wanting their cats, and we took in feral cats also, so guess who adopted them. When we moved to WV they traveled with us, we wouldn't have parted with one of them. We have lost four babies this year. My heart breaks when I have to say goodbye to each one of them and I know I have many more times for my heart to ache as I lose each furbaby. But I know that one day we will all meet at Rainbow Bridge and I always say good morning to my late babies each day. God Bless you for all you do for our furbabies and I know you will continue to do so.

My granmother just passed 2 weeks ago, and everyday we would watch your show...she enjoyed seeing your animals and hearing about them...I hope it helps a little to know you sharing your experiences with them gave a dying woman some enjoyment. Thank you for that. Her smiling at your little dogs and cats gave me a happy memory of a very difficult time in my life as well.
Thank you Martha and I am so sorry to hear about Mozart.

Martha:
As you have shared your life through your many years, with the viewing public. Millions are saddened, including me, for your loss of Mozart.
Allow me, I have a private program of compassion for twelve felines. Whom will never have offspring, it is the right thing to do. My twelve very best friends live in a paradise of their own however.
It happens all across America, you know. Although not enough, people of all walks of life, provide compassion and care for those that can't speak for themselves
To end, Life would not be very comforting without pets, would it.
Nevertheless, I am saddened for your loss of your friend, Mozart.

I'm so sorry to learn of the passing of dear Mozart. Although nineteen years is a nice lifespan for kitties, there is never enough time with them and never a good time to part.
We animal lovers share a common bond and so sorely empathize with heartbreak and loss. I lost my feline soulmate when my beloved cat, Champy, passed away April 14, 1997, at age sixteen. Four days later, his lifelong kitty companion, our precious Brandy, also age sixteen, passed away. My husband and I were devastated. We adore our three current cats, but even time can't entirely remove the sting of past loss. I'm sure lovely Mozart will be always in your thoughts.
Our heartfelt condolences.

Beautiful Martha,
You're one of my few idols. I simply wanted to share a thought.
I am convinced that if there is such a thing as an afterlife, surely our pets are will exist with us. My kitten is the most perfect soul I have had the pleasure of living with and I dread the day she may die before me.

I'm so sorry to hear of this. Shortly after we adopted an older child, he adopted a deaf cat and the bond was intense. The cat would wait for him, knowing instinctively when the school bus was about to arrive at the end of a school day. She also knew if he was having a hard day and would curl up and snuggle with him. Even now, years after our beloved cat's death, he misses her.
I am actually glad of that. Animals can teach us so much, often giving back far more than we give to them and being usually wise and forgiving - and most of all, compassionate.

Dear Martha,
What a beautiful cat/child. That's what they are to my husband and I - we have 6. One is a Lynx/Hymalayian mix we rescued from the pound. In fact all of our cats are rescued except one. She's a ragdoll, but looks just like a Seal point Himalayian. They become such a part of our lives and spirit and when they are gone, the loss is terrible. But I believe that we will see them again someday in Heaven. I think it was Billy Graham who once said that God is so wonderful and loves us so much that if it takes having our beloved pets in Heaven to make it perfect, He will have them there. I think that is wisdom. It brings me comfort to know that. I have a beautiful Chow Chow and several other pets in Heaven waiting there for me.
I hope it gives you comfort to know your kitty was well loved and cared for and is waiting with all your other loves in Heaven for you, when your time comes. I wish you peace and blessings in the mean time.

So sorry for your loss I miss my dog and cat so much I had to have them put down years ago because of there age and health. They are a part of your family your best friend. When you are not feeling well they seem to know and understand, they cheer you up when you are down too and put a smile on your face when others can't. Mozart is a beautiful cat remember all the good times you had with her and treasure those memories forever.
Once again I am very sorry for your loss.

It hurts when a beloved furry friend's time with us is up, but we are so much richer for having them. They comfort us when we're down, they make us smile when they are at play. They are so full of love and all they wish is a little food, water and a pat on the head. Both you and your little friend were lucky to have each other for all these many years.

Martha,
I hope you read a lot of the blog posts today. I know how comforting they can be at this most difficult time.
I am so sorry for your loss of Mozart. He was a beautiful, Lynx Point Persian. I always thought they were a neat breed of cat seeing them all over your magazines and books. The photos are precious.
19 years is a long time to have unconditional love from a family member. I hope the pain of your loss is replaced by happy memories of Mozart soon.
On a personal note(thank you to PamfromCalif for submitting)I had a severe loss of my own- two of my beloved Yorkies, Bridget (who was 16 yr old Mom- passed 2wks ago) and this past Thurs. Stewart, my sweet boy,(13 year old son of Bridget)died suddenly without warning. (2 dogs in 10 days). :....(
I named him after you, Martha. I still have his surviving sister and brother, Martha and Bentley.
Still the house is unbearably quiet and I am trying to cope.
My grief is beyond comprehension right now but like I said, read these posts for they do comfort you at this most difficult time. There are a lot of caring people... I thank some of them on this blog for helping me get through this...you are the best bloggers and also my friends on Twitter. Losing a pet is losing a very loved family member. I am so sorry about your loss in PawPaw and little Genghis too. (not good year for furbabies):(
May God Bless you and may you find comfort in your surviving pets. Give your beautiful Frenchies a kiss and hug from me as well as your other kitties.
Love and Peace,
Paula M.

Martha;
I lost my kitten to Manx Cat syndrome. If I was angry with her she would lie flat on the floor and close her eyes thinking I couldn't see her. She was a full of life and gave us so much joy. We only had her for 3 years and I still miss her. I know your cat is in heaven having a great time. Maybe our cats will meet. So sorry for your loss. I hope to open a retirement home in PEI, Canada. This would be for cats that are senior or disabled but still have a quality of life and are difficult to rehome. This would be thier last stop.
Take Care

these are the days we dread when we take these wonderful companions into our hearts. as a child, you "beg and beg" your parents to let you have that kitten or puppie. as an adult, you sometimes hesitate, not because of the time and committment and sometimes, outrageous vet bills, but because you are afraid of your heart being broken, no matter how many years...

Martha,
I once shared my life with 7 Persians (one was a lilac point Himalayian) a domestic long hair cat who tried so hard to be Persian, 2 cockatiels, one raccoon (who lived to be 24 years old) and a black lab collie mix. I loved each of them so much and felt so much pain as each left my life and passed over to their next journey.
I am saddened by your loss of Mozart and will remember you as you grieve your loss of a beloved friend. It is never easy. There are no words to heal the pain. Only happy memories of lives touched by a love that transcends all.
May you be gently touched by Mozart forever in your heart.
Sincerely,

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear Mozart. What a wonderful long and loving life! We, too had a cat recently pass on. She, Nermal, was 18 years old. She quietly passed away in my lap. We still grieve but do cherish her memory. We had her since she was 3 weeks old (an abandoned stray which was found in a dumpster). She thought of us as her "parents" never wanting to leave our side. She is still with us as yours is still with you.

I lost my Francesca, a 14 year old domestic short hair tabby, a few years ago. It was devastating. I really am sorry for your loss. My cat was my family. She survived breast cancer surgery twice; she was a real trooper. Please know my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. Some people may think you have it all, but I dont think they realize you are a human who suffers just like many of us do at difficult times as such. You bring so many nice things to the world. Thank you for all your hard work in making this world a better place.

Dear Martha,
We are so sorry for your loss of your buddy Mozart. We know he had the most wonderful home but it doesn't help your sorrow and grief now. Whether a long or short life, they touch us so deeply. We lost our beloved 8 year-old, Momma Kitty on June 3rd. Formerly a feral cat, she had come so far and loved her home. Never wanted to go outside again. It was cancer, lymphoma. She stopped eating, had tests and we planned treatments but then while hospitalized she developed a fever, took a turn for the worse and we drove to be with her as she was euthanized. She squeaked when she saw us. She knew we were there. We have her son, thankfully, and 15 & 16 year-old cats. We are sorry for your loss. Let's believe their spirit remains with us and we'll see them again one day. xo Judy & Steve xo

Thanks for sharing with us. May God be in your heart as you get thru these tough days. I have a 15 1/2 yr old spitz mixed dog (Sadie) that I found on the side of the road when she was just a tot.
It's been rough around here. She's had a stroke and seizures just recently, and with lots of love given to her she is still with us. And doing well, but I know that that day is coming.
She is our fur daughter and jumped right into our hearts. God Bless You know what they say always come back as a pet, dog or cat. Alot of them live better then children. And this I know as fact!

As a former Jersey girl (actually belonged to Twin Hickory Ski Club in Nutley in 60's) I so enjoy seeing your Friesians. Thanks for sharing those beautiful animals. I used to ride in New Vernon.

Unbelievable the number of condolances. Of course, our pets are so much part of our lives.
So sorry to hear about your loss and I know you will soon find another. I know how much the other animals miss one who has passed.

Because of Mozart, I fell in love with the breed and made Choo Choo a member of our family.
Of course, he became a Daddy and we have Carrie also, plus Miss Beautiful.
Mozart's passing reminds me that we don't have them forever so off to the rocking chair, I go to hug them a little harder today.
I share your sadness and am so sorry.

I too am a pet lover have two cavaliers and one ragdoll cat. I have had many pets over the years and the loss of that pet is very devasting. I just lost my yorkie this last winter, he was only 15. I know it is tuff, but I am confident that there is a rainbow bridge and we will be reunited with our beloved pets one day.

For as long as I can remember watching the Martha programs, Mozart has been around (I am 27. That is most of my life.) I am sorry about your loss. My cats are such a part of who I am that I cannot (nor do not want to) imagine life without them.

Dear Martha,
You do not know me but my Himalayan name Misty morning Mason died the same day yours did.We had to put her to sleep. I am so sorry and I do understand how hard it is. My Misty was the best pet I have every had. I can't stop crying or thinking about her.She was my world. This is the worst thing that has ever happen to me. I know you have loss pets before and I was wondering do you know of any books that I can read to help me with my loss. Again I want to tell you how sorry I am for your loss.
Sincerely,
Cindy Mason

I am so sorry about your loss of your beautiful cat Mozart. She was so loved and so lucky to have you and your love for so many years. I know how it feels to lose a pet because a week ago I lost my Cocker Spaniel, Buffy, who was 161/2 years old. I will always love her but now she is with God in heaven just as your cat is.

I too lost a Male 19 year old Maine Coon Named Beau and held him and he held me , took one last breath and stopped. A natural kind death and no shot on a hard steel table. He was at home with me. I miss him but like you I valued his life as if he was my child. I adore your love for animals. I am so sorry for your loss but the Gift of Mozart was Gods gift to you.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear Mozart. From your tribute, I know he had a long and happy life with you, which is all that we can give our pets that give so much to us. I have four sweet cats who enrich my life and I cherish every day I have with them. My sincere condolences.

Dear Martha -
Just wanted to let you know you have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your your dear friend, Mozart. He must have been a truly wonderful kitty and you are both lucky to have spent many happy years together. My cat, Sherman, passed away a week before my mother did, in September of 2007. It was devastating to lose two loved ones one right after the other. Sherman was almost 17 years old, and was just like one of my kids. They are family members and losing them is like losing a big piece of your heart. My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Mozart, and may you find peace too, Martha.

Martha,
You gave Mozart a life that other cats can only dream of, yet it is heartbreaking when it's their time to leave us. My sympathies are with you.
Enjoy the memories and take comfort that he will be waiting to greet you at Heaven's gate.
Kind regards,
Karen

TO CINDY MASON
I AM SO VERY SORRY FOR THE ANGUISH YOU ARE GOING THROUGH. I HAVE MANY BOOKS YOU CAN READ AND EVEN GRIEF FRIENDS YOU CAN TALK TO IF YOU WISH.
EMAIL ME AT andeee@comcast.net for resource on where to turn next. I can also connect you to Author Rita Reynolds, Blessing the Bridge, who I'm sure would talk to you.
Every animal waits for us to see them. Some time after my Weimaraner, Professor died, I was called in to Angell Memorial Hospital ICU to counsel an animal's owner. I was tired. It was late. I said, "Get up...Drive." Home well after midnight, I looked up between two tall pine trees where Professor had been buried. I said, "Thank you for making me go tonight....." At the words 'thank you' a shooting star jetted down between those two trees.
She still advises me in all patterns of manner, today 10 years later! There is coincidence, and there is BEYOND that. No one has left you. Stand assured.

So sorry for you lose of Mozart. He was a beautiful cat. Now Paw Paw is showing him the ropes of The Rainbow Bridge.
I also lost 3 cats this past year and I miss each and every one of them as much as I am sure you miss Mozart. You had 18 years of wonderful memories with him so I know that you will have lots to draw from when you think of him.
Many blessings to you and your other pets. They will all miss him I know.

Dear Martha,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have the same type of cat, Tommy. Regal was the perfect choice to describe Mozart. Tommy is the truly the king of my family. I would lose my mind if he died! You are very strong

Martha:
I am sorry for your loss and heartache. We miss our animals so much that become such a special part of our families when they leave us behind--although we would do it again in a heartbeat despite that heartache. I wanted to let you know about something I tried when one of my rabbits passed away and the one left behind was so depressed that he would not eat. I was afraid we would lose him too. It was a natural flower essence product without any drugs or side effects called Crossed Over that I purchased at botanicalanimal.com and my rabbit was eating again in less than 24 hours. It was really easy too. I just put it in his water. I was so very thankful. I recommend it highly if any of your animals are feeling sad because of Mozart's departure. Thanks so much for sharing your personal stories.

Dear Martha,
I am a fan of yours and since Paw Paw died, this is the next devastating news I have heard. Like everything else that we know, life is short. Even shorter for some pets. I hope you are ok.. Mozart is in a better place now.. How I miss my pet dogs, that died of old age and illness.
Regards,
Sarah

I was so sorry to hear about Mozart! Please accept my condolences! I know how you must be feeling now, because two years ago, I lost my Leo II, my Himalayan, to cancer; it was heartbreaking. I hope that he will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Mozart. When you lose a pet its as if you have lost a family member. I lost my cat a few years back. His name was Tar Baby and he was 18 when he passed. I still miss him and have tried to get other cats but they just weren't the same. I have two dogs, one is 14 years old the is 3 years old. They are so much a part of my life. They are truly my best friends as I am sure Mozart was yours.

Mozart was a beautiful cat. I am really sorry for your loss. Last year my himalayan cat, Fiona, suddenly died. I did some research and learned of a breeder in Connecticut. I am just curious. I recently acquired two new cats from Jo Ubogy. My cats, in my opinion, are beautiful. She told me that you purchased a number of your cats from her. I saw one of your cats in your magazine that looks so much like my Saschi. I would really be amazed and proud if my new cat, or cats, were somehow related to your current cat(s).

Hi Martha,
I am sorry for your loss.
Mozart lived a long life, 19 yrs is a long time! When I think of you and your home, I think of your gorgeous Himalayan and Chow too.

Hi Martha,
My condolences on the loss of your beloved Mozart. The pictures you showed of him are beautiful. He was so lucky to have you as an
owner and to have so many animal companions. I'm
sure he is now over the Rainbow Bridge to keep PawPaw company.
Sincerely,

Dearest Martha - I have been watching you for many, many years. During my most troubled times I found your show refocused my energy and sort of brought me back to life.
But, the reason for this comment - very recently I lost my "William" - a tan tabby of 19 years - it just wasn't long enough. I feel like I have lost my oldest, dearest and best friend.
As strange as it sounds, your show is like therapy for me and in more ways than one, it grounds me. Your contribution to people's lives is invaluable not only in the information you offer but in the inspiration YOU give -
Keeping you in my prayers and all my wishes for blessings.
