1 When the snow ended, I decided to go outdoors and explore. The sky was very beautiful.
2 Walking towards the carport, I startled some crows, who were feasting on fallen seeds from the bird feeders.
3 Bird feeders hang all along the back side of the carport. The wind was blowing the fluffy snow off the roof.
4 The three dogs joined me for my expedition.
5 One of the original apple trees on the property against a rapidly clearing azure sky
6 The little tenant house is situated on the other side of the drive.
7 As is this grove of bald cypress and the shed where I store my basket collection
8 We received about 6-inches of snow.
9 Chhiring was busy filling the bird feeders along the pergola. He uses a long pole with an attached hook.
10 The pole really helps to reach the feeders.
11 A view down the length of the pergola
12 The vegetable garden and the greenhouse beyond
13 One end of the equipment barn
14 The finials atop the equipment barn are Swedish or French lead-coated copper.
15 With all the snow we've been getting, I am so happy for all the protective burlap wrapping.
16 The burlap protects from windburn and also preserves the shape of the shrub from the weight of the snow.
17 The corn crib is original to the farm.
18 Here I am taking pictures.
19 The stable always looks great, especially in the snow.
20 A great angle of the paddock fencing
21 The horses were out enjoying the snow along with some Canada geese.
22 Hello, dear Sasa.
23 This weeping beech has gotten quite tall since it was planted a few years back.
24 Turn left for the stable or.....
25 Turn right for the woods.
26 One of the gurgling streams through the woods
27 The carriage road winds so nicely.
28 This clearing is a hayfield.
29 My iconic sycamore tree - the symbol of the farm
30 Another angle of this gorgeous tree
31 And another gurgling brook, which is quite icy
32 I love the way this brook looks.
33 It's as though the stones are topped with marshmallows.
34 Every time the wind blew....
35 Snow would fall from the trees.
36 Another hayfield near the contemporary house
37 Emerging from the woods and circling back towards home, I stopped at the summer house. This is the backside, which will be turned into a beautiful formal garden in the spring.
38 Approaching my home and my giant fire cauldron
39 My home and more burlapped shrubs
40 G.K. wanted to get out and run. He is quite fast. He has a wonderful sense of humor and really loves playing games.
I love your sycamore tree! It is marvelous! All your pictures of the snow and farm are beautiful! Its nice to see the snow. We haven't had a single flurry in here south east TX!

You deserve to relax a little and just hang out on your farm with Francesca, Sharkey, and GK. Everything looks beautiful. The babbling brook is a personal favorite of mine.
Hope to see more of your pre-Super Bowl adventures in Dallas.

Martha, the pictures are beautiful. It is 1:30am and I could not sleep so I always visit your site for new information ranging from your personal like to recipes. I really enjoyed the pictures..OMG you are so lucky. God has really blessed you...I hope you are aware of that and thank him daily. Very very blessed!

Apparently Martha you are trying to spend more quality time with you dogs!

The contrast of your fences against the snow make such a lovely composition...its the simple things like that that make January so sublime. Thank You.

Your pictures invite to quiet moments. Rain came in Luxembourg just after New Year's day and has sweep all the snow we had (about 20 inches) in less than 48 hours... Since then we had a grey sky (OK, we had some sun, but so rarely) with rain nearly every day.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your surroundings.

Dear Martha,
Because I was home last Friday due to another snowstorm in Boston, I was able to watch your show on woodworking. I especially enjoyed the banter between you and your brother, more specifically his comments about having grown up in the same home as you had. Your parents passed down some very creative genes. I realized how much I enjoyed watching your mom when she was on the show.

North Dakota winters are known around the world. Amazingly, January ends with more light and chinook (warm winds) and promise of spring. I do hope you blog pictures of something else besides snow, snow, and more snow 'cause I see that every day from my window now.

Your photos are so beautiful! You can really tell you love your farm so very much. Thank you for sharing. It would be really interesting to see a map of the farm. How it has changed since you have owned it. Your additions and plantings.

Hi Martha,
I hope you had a nice weekend even though the Jets lost yesterday. Darn, I wanted them and the Bears to play in the Super bowl but oh well!
~
Great pictures here and that gorgeous sky is something else. Everything still looks nice even in the winter – the pergola and the view to the stables are my favorites. I also love the way your dogs sit in the back seat of the Kawasaki Mule and behave themselves. Our dogs could have used a bit of training because there was always chaos when we took them anywhere together. Spoiled brats!
~
Catch you later because it’s almost time to watch the show. Trish @ Trish_EllenC

So serene...so peaceful. I can imagine the quietness, snow insulates all noise. Everything is so beautiful covered in white.

Oh...I also wanted to add that I really enjoyed your show last Friday on woodworking. I was really impressed with your brother's work. I really thought the fish piece was taxidermied, it looked so real. There is so much talent in your family! Thank you again, Martha.

Hi Martha, Thanks again for taking us on a delightful tour of your Bedford farm after another snow storm. The snow, the sky, the fantastic areas all around the farm are absolutely stunning in these photos! It's easy to see why the dogs like to go with you all around the farm! They look so intrigued by the beautiful views and G.K. looks so happy to be out there in the snow! His resemblance to Paw Paw is amazing! G.K.'s Daily Wag blog post today is absolutely fantastic, also! Loved your twitpics about your visit to Dallas on Saturday, really terrific! Have another great day and stay warm! Jan

Lovely Photos. Great Scenery. I also thought it was so very kind of you to take care of our feathered friends with all of those bird feeders.

OK, winter time and sitting in the house watching Hallmark TV was great today. Kramer, Schiff, Kristoff, and making wood trays from downed trees.

I love the pics. Snow is so lovely. The little brook was so pretty.

The Morning After
.
Clouds low slung trailing behind a winter's storm.
Ancient apple trees crouching behind their fence, keep warm.
Could this be "Dracula" beating it, before the sun?
Happy chirps from busy bird feeders, well hung.
Taking care of business, three musketeers wait,in a row.
"Martha step it up,no time to waste,it's on the hunt we go."
Another ancient crouching, hiding, quiet as a mouse.
Bald cypress, the basket shed and the little tenant house.
The pergola and veggie garden, finials in a line,
Burlap covers do their job protecting boxwoods fine.
The motley crew is on its way with many camera clicks.
An equine home is very photogenic for this chilly flick.
Sasa's arab ancestry is showing, the new recruit looks good.
Look out, before you know it,they're headed for the woods.
Streams still gurgle,a nice treat for thirsty critters to find.
Nicely through the leafless woods the carriage road winds.
Come the season change, the snow field will turn green.
Symbol of the farm, the sycamore adds beauty to the scene.
Icy brooks add character with their pebbles topped with snow.
Dusting snow leaves the trees when the cold winds blow.
Past a planned formal garden, there's no place like home.
A happy puppy out for a run,sees a cauldron not a gnome.

Beautiful! I can just hear the quietness!
Posted by: Frances | January 24th, 2011 at 3:55 pm
How beautiful!!!
Seeing these pictures makes me wonder about covering certain plants with burlap. If they are dormant, they should not need to be covered. If they are not dormant, don't they need sunlight?
Just wondering.

OMGosh...the marshmallow rocks, the faces of the dogs, the falling snow and just the beauty of it all. How do you ever leave your farm? Thanks for sharing.

I thought the Stable was another house. If I were to see it without snow, it would probably still look like a house to me. Snow is beautiful but is very high maintenance with removal.

I don't really send messages on facebook - this is probably one of about a dozen. I just looked at the pictures of the farm. just beautiful. I hope you remember to thank the Maker for the beauty. I also looked at the pictures of G.K. at the goomer. What a special dog. I remember when Paw Paw was a pup - yes, I am that old - and G.K. certainly is every bit as regal. I have followed your career through the years and I again I hope you remember to thank the Creator for all you have. I know you have worked very hard for what you have but where did you get the talent and drive to accomplish all you have.

I was very interested in the wood working episode that air a few days ago. Many women are interested in the subject.
Have you heard of a group of wood sculptures in the Pacific Northwest, call "Northwest Driftwood Artists? We find driftwood and turn it into fine pieces of sculpture. The wood is cleaned and scraped till clean and then finished with 400-600grit sandpaper and beeswax. Your audience might appreciate this art form. After all haven't we all picked up a piece of driftwood when out on an adventure, and had to bring it home?
Love your very informative show!!!

First time on a blog. Didnt know how to send you an idea. Saw your name and Oprah's on a biodegradeable bag web sight that said you liked them? When I go to the grocery store I put every type of produce I buy( which is alot when I am so inspired by Everyday Foods mag) in a produce bag because they are my source of poop bags for my daily dog walks. I use the bag twise. Idealy I would like to purchase biodegradeable bags, take them to the store, use them for my produce, then bring them home and use them for my daily dog walks. I can only find large quanities of bags available. They suggest you use them within a year because they start breaking down. I thought you could offer them in your dog store items. Thank you for your time.
