We arrived at the 'Googleplex,' as it is fondly nicknamed. Google's corporate headquarters in Mountain View, CA, is comprised of thirty buildings. There are over 16,000 employees at this location alone.
The brightly colored bicycles parked outside every building are there for employees to travel from one place to another.
I sat with Trish Crawley, Marissa Mayer's assistant, in front of a video fireplace in the greenroom before the interview.
Google warmly welcomed us with gifts - a green plush Android mascot, local food from Ferry Terminal Farmer's Market - Cowgirl Creamery cheese and Blue Bottle coffee beans, plus a Zagat guide - a new Google acquisition.
This is one of the many lovely floral arrangements in the green room.
This is the stage set before the talk.
Marissa introduced me to the crowd.
Previous guests have included President Obama, Tina Fey, Alton Brown, and Lady Gaga.
Marissa asked me about my path to success. I explained that with my first book, Entertaining, I filled a void that I knew a great deal about - a subject that people were interested in.
I told the crowd that I was always interested in technology and was an early Google adopter.
As I discussed my early career, Marissa Googled 'Martha Stewart Modeling' and look what popped up on the screen!
My magazines were displayed, but I pointed out that Everyday Food was missing.
Marissa showed the broad range of topics which come up on Google by entering my name.
Images galore!
This chat conveniently served as a launchpad for my latest book - I explained how personal it is, as it involves meals served at my homes, unlike my first book, Entertaining, which revolved around parties and my catering career.
Part of the amazing variety of food offered by the Google culinary team - This was the dessert table.
Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company provided the blue cheese and Bellwether Farms San Andreas supplied the Sheep Milk Cheese

Kate Tyler - Clarkson Potter, VP of Publicity, whose brother Nate works in PR for Google and Marissa Mayer
This is one of the many food kiosks on Google's campus. The food is free and these are self-serve. In addition, there are many cafes, too.
This is one of the many garden spaces with outdoor seating for the employees. The campus also boasts a very productive vegetable garden.
After lunch, we were given a preview of what Google has been working on. Google Maps Street View technology now allows you to see not only the outside of stores, but also the inside. This is a fromagerie in Paris in Street View.
Google hires a wide variety of people, and not just the technical type. Professional cartographers and people experienced with non-profit organizations are working to develop ways for Google Maps to help the environment.
Here, we saw how new Google Map technology can identify deforestation in the rain forests of Brazil and in other troubled areas of the world.
We watched a recent Google+ Hangout, a video chat powered by their social media network, which brought the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu together from two different parts of the world.
Here I am standing before screens showcasing the new and extraordinary Google Earth technology. That's Nigara Falls, which I visited often, as my maternal grandparents lived in nearby Buffalo, New York.
Meanwhile, the Google employees waited to get their books signed. Of course, they all seemed to be busy at work on their laptops!
Google hires people from a range of disciplines - intelligence, not necessarily experience - and they enjoy people with interesting personal pursuits and hobbies.
Meeting and signing
This gal had five books!
And this employee brought in her sweet French bulldog to meet me!
This is a partial view of Charlie's Cafe, one of several nice restaurants on campus.
And this is the No Name Cafe, another Google campus eatery.
Of course, I had to sneak a peek inside the Google pastry kitchen.
I met a very happy pastry chef!
Outside at the campus
With Trish Crawley
With Andrew Schulte - a former MSLO employee
With Jeromy Henry - all Google employees are encouraged to spend 20% of their time on a non-core related pursuit. He's an engineer, but he also loves photography, so he spent his time photographing our visit.
