My Appearance on 2 Broke Girls Tonight!
There’s a very funny show on CBS on Monday nights called 2 Broke Girls, set in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York. The sitcom follows the adventures of two financially poor women, Max and Caroline. Max comes from a poor working-class family. Caroline, on the other hand, was born wealthy, but is now penniless because of her father’s shady business dealings. The two meet while waitressing in a greasy spoon diner, begin an unlikely friendship, and then become roommates. Caroline soon discovers that Max has a real talent for baking fabulous cupcakes and they begin saving their wages to start a cupcake business. Of course, there’s a hilarious cast of characters and I was surprised, and quite pleased, when I received an invitation to appear on an episode. Here are some behind-the-scene photos taken on the set last March. It was a really fun experience and I hope you will catch this episode of 2 Broke Girls tonight on CBS. Check your local listings.
2 Here I am arriving at the Warner Bros. Television studio. The television division was created in 1955 and has produced such shows as 77 Sunset Strip, F Troop, Kung Fu, Wonder Woman, The Dukes of Hazzard, Night Court, Gilmore Girls and, of course, 2 Broke Girls.
4 The studio houses many different stages and currently films shows like The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Conan, The Big Bang Theory, Harry's Law, Two and Half Men, Mike and Molly, and more.
5 The lot features many familiar streets with outdoor sets, like this courthouse on the set 'NY Street.' Frank Sinatra famously sang on these steps in the 1964 musical, 'Robin and the Seven Hoods.'
6 Posing with some of the very lifelike and notable characters from Warner Bros. films - V for Vendetta, The Matrix, and Predator.
7 Seated for the table-read - all of the actors read through the script once with the directors and producers before any rehearsals begin.
8 These readings are also called 'cold' readings because there has been no rehearsal time. It gives all present a chance to hear what works and what doesn't, before going forward with the project.
9 Michael Patrick King is the Executive Producer. He was also the producer for Sex and the City, Will & Grace, and Cybill.
10 Jonathan Kite plays Oleg, a cook. Sitting next to him is Garrett Morris, who plays Earl, a cashier. Matthew Moy, who plays Han Lee, is the owner of the restaurant where the girls work.
17 This set is the Brooklyn restaurant where the 2 girls waitress, while working towards their shared dream of opening a cupcake shop.
23 We rehearsed the scene on set. The 2 girls sneak into a museum event I'm attending, hoping to get me to taste one of their cupcake creations!
31 Posing with Tim Kaiser, producer of the show, who also worked on Will & Grace with Michael Patrick King.
32 After the taping, I sat down with the CBS PR team to do a quick interview about my experience on the show.
33 Then Extra correspondent, Renee Bargh, stopped by for a quick interview about my new book, Martha's American Food.

Thanks for these pics behind the scenes of tonight's episode of 2 Broke Girls on CBS. I am so looking forward to your new shows on PBS. Seems as if you are always having a ball like on Gates FINDING YOUR ROOTS episode last night revealing your lineage to Genghis Kahn..

Hi Martha, What a fun blog post this one was to see and watching the CBS program '2 Broke Girls' tonight will be a lot of fun! Beth, Kat, and Michael sure did look great in these photos and you looked fabulous and very happy! How thoughtful of them to have you on their TV show! Seeing the sets and entire cast and 'cold readings' was fascinating to view before the show was broadcasted! Can't wait to see this tonight! Watched you on PBS last night on 'Finding Your Roots' and it was fantastic to learn more about your foreign relatives and the photos they presented were fantastic! My Dad's parents came from Finland and when my grandpa came here, he changed his name form Swan Ahonan to Swan Erickson and that's why our Finish name is Erickson. I think I will try to learn more about him through PBS, if possible-fascinating! Thanks for sharing all of this and hope you have another great day! Off to check out The Daily Wag where F&S are wandering around the farm before their last surgeries! I love them and GK! Jan

Hi Martha,
I saw this particular clip online the other day and thought it was pretty funny. I don’t really watch Two Broke Girls because it’s on the same time as DWTS. Good for them for holding up against that show though! I’ll be sure to check it out tonight.

I really liked “Finding Your Roots” on PBS last night - I’m going to watch that show more often. I was so amazed with all the information they found going back centuries in some instances. To learn about our ancestors gives one so much to think about as in your case with ties to Genghis Kahn. How fascinating! Our genetic wiring is a powerful thing. I mean to even think about the amount of history encoded in our genes is mind boggling. Who wouldn’t want to find out about their ancestors from centuries ago? Well, I’m just glad you were on that show because I may not have watched it otherwise! Trish

I enjoyed your appearance on 2 Broke Girls, Martha. I finally had a chance to watch my recording of the episode last night. I'm very curious about the maple bacon cupcake. I'm very curious... was the cupcake prop accurately flavored?

Martha, you were great on 2 Broke Girls...very natural...now all you are missing is an actor career...go for it!

Adult humor. I would advise parents not to let their children watch this sitcom. But I enjoyed it. I love to see cameo appearances by famous people!
