Our gathering was held in the evening after work, so all could attend. Here I am with Amy Conway, Editor-In-Chief of Martha Stewart Weddings.
The flags were made by For Your Party, a company that allows customers to design their own party accessories. http://www.foryourparty.com/
Here's special projects editor, Anthony Luscia, getting the last details ready for our buffet.
President of Meredith National Media Group, Tom Hardy, and I, stopped for a quick photo.
Here, I am joined by Shira Savada, our Real Weddings Editor.
Everyone had a wonderful time - here are Joanna Garcia, Laura Formisano, Claire Sullivan, Brooke Porter Katz, and Amy.
Joining Amy in this photo are associate publisher of Weddings, Jennifer Marder, along with Shira, Yung Moon, Jessica King, and beauty director, Melissa Goldstein.
The event was catered by Peter Callahan, known for his fun miniature comfort foods and sweet bites. For this event, he presented the hors d'oeuvres on white lacquered trays with clear inserts. http://www.petercallahan.com
Peter placed our Weddings art work underneath the inserts to make the trays more personal. These are mini rum and Cokes and fried chicken canapés with green tomato salsa.
On this tray - maple glazed bacon and bourbon in mini old-fashioned glasses.
Lemon tini drinks were also passed around - a refreshing summer version of the classic martini. It's made with vodka, lemon juice, simple syrup, and ice.
Here's a fun photo with Anthony Luscia - he's worked for me for many years.
Here's Amy with Jon Werther, President of Meredith Digital, and Tom.
Danna Kaplan, Jennifer Fitzpatrick, Christina Reinaldo, and Jill O'Toole
Here I am with Kevin Sharkey, our EVP executive design director, and Weddings senior style editor, Naomi de Manana.
This is Patti Follo, our VP Publisher at Meredith.
Peter also used our magazine art work to make these miniature pizza boxes with mini cherry tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil pizzas - these are great for any party!
Our wine came from Santa Margherita. Their wineries and vineyards are located in some of Italy's most beautiful regions, including eastern Veneto, the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene hills, Alto Adige, Lombardy with Franciacorta, Tuscany with Chianti Classico and Maremma, and Sicily. http://www.santamargherita.com/en/
All the one-bite hors d'oeuvres were prepared with no additional skewers or sauces. These are called "beef and beer" - carpaccio of beef on Parmesan crisps with mini mugs of Guinness beer. Carpaccio is the name of a typical Italian dish made with raw meat.
Here are Jackie Polce Stockel, Anthony, and Liz Malone.
Here is a photo of our evening's hostess, Darcy Miller-Nussbaum, and Jennifer.
Everyone loved the caviar atop these cracker spoons and buckwheat blinis - both finished with dollops of creme fraiche, and served with mini iced vodka shots.
This is called "Milk and Cookies" - vanilla milkshake with chocolate chip cookie in small milk cartons. These were very popular.
In Darcy's beautiful dining room, a buffet was set filled with various crudités, such as baby carrots, red Belgian endives, green beans, raw radishes, breadsticks, figs, and other fresh and dried fruits.
Darcy provided some of these beautiful platters. The table also included artisanal cheeses, and assorted meats, olives, and crackers.
It was a very fun and inspiring evening.
