The flight to Abaco from Ft. Lauderdale takes one hour direct when one flies by twin-engine Cessna with Air Flight, Inc.
I decided, since I was the only passenger, to fly in the co-pilot seat. The visibility was excellent as the day was pretty clear.

Leaving the US with the Florida coastline below - looking south towards Miami.
Grand Bahama Island off to the left - it is a large island but not the biggest of the Bahamas - Andros (The Big Yard) is the biggest - roughly 2,300 square miles in area.

There is a lot of surface water and many waterways on Grand Bahama Island.
At last - Abaco in the distance.
Taxiing to the terminal in Abaco where I cleared customs and was greeted by Muffin Dowdle, my hostess.
When I reached the beachfront home of James and Muffin, I was immediately treated to an island specialty - conch fritters, freshly prepared by their cook, Ruby.
These are light as feathers and the sauce is a secret concoction that is fabulous!
Ruby's cole slaw was delicious also - very light and creamy.

The view from the house - there is always a breeze and the beach is white flour sand - so beautiful.
Muffin's son, George, stayed for just one more day - he then went off to play golf in Florida.
This is Zach Johnston, another Abaco frequenter - he ate many meals with his family at the Dowdle's home.
Sam, the older Johnston boy, enjoyed his visit to Abaco.
Fishing boats pass by the beach on their way to the ocean.
And then, of course, they come back.
A better view of the gorgeous beach - we walked at least two miles up and down the beach each day.
This is a jelly fish stranded in the sand.
So majestic - the azure blue of the water and the sky blue of the heavens.
A Polynesian-style villa down the beach - thatch roofs and palm trees - very enticing.

Here I am with Ruby Clarke, the cook. She promised to write down all her Bahamian recipes so Jimmy can create a cookbook for posterity.
Freeland, the driver - he is a source of lots of information about the island, its history, and the inhabitants.
