Gallery: My photos from Abaco, Day Five

January 12, 2009
My photos from Abaco, Day Five Read The Original Post

I need a tan, but guess what - I will never get a tan.
On Abaco there are just a few little towns - here is downtown for Muffin and Jimmy - two small rows of shops and cafes.
There is a beautiful nursery for tropical plants not far from Jimmy's house. I took a long tour of the grounds and found many palms that I want to find for my home.
A great specimen of a royal palm
a flame tree in full bloom
a giant papaya
Beautiful bougainvillea in many colors.
a wonderful fan palm
a traveller palm
a bismarckia palm
a really fabulous palm
another species that caught my attention
a beautiful smooth palm trunk
This is the sign identifying the nursery on the roadside.
This was another superb palm.
This is Muffin's cole slaw - we all loved it.
Here's a pasta salad I made with tomatoes, parsley, garlic and cheese.
These are fillets of albacore - I marinated them in sour orange juice, lime juice, pepper, and olive oil.
a family of sandpipers on the beach
There are many beautiful stone formations along the beach.
When the sun is shining, the water is a wonderful shade of blue.
A group of sea gulls floating atop the shallow water - look at the contrast of water and sky!
This is the only supermarket in the village of Treasure Cay.
Here's the road on the way to the blue hole - I did not know what to expect on this escapade.
Approaching the blue hole - it was really like an open cenote, a large, very deep hole of fresh water - crystal clear and cool. Supposedly, Jacques Cousteau dove down almost 300 feet and did not get to the bottom! The water changes from fresh, on top, to salt lower down.
the hole reflecting the adjacent forest
How amazing - quiet, secluded, and no one was there.
looking straight down - the stones are limestone
