A Walk Around Jordan Pond
Whenever I'm in Maine, I love to hike the glorious trails of Acadia National Park!
One of my favorite treks is around Jordan Pond. The pond covers 187-acres, with a maximum depth of 150-feet. It's flanked on the west side by Penobscot Mountain, and to the northeast by two mountains called "The Bubbles". The pond is ringed by a walking trail, which I've done many, many times, and adore. The nearly four-mile hike is an excellent way to see and appreciate Acadia's glacially carved landscape.
During a recent trip to Maine, a group of colleagues and my three dogs, joined me for an early morning walk on Jordan Pond Shore Trail. It was an exhilarating hike for us all - here are some of my photos. Enjoy.

Hi Martha,
1 1/2 hour walk first thing in the morning, sure way to have the heart start pumping. From the pictures, timing looks longer.
Sure weren't kidding when you said the (beautiful) bridge was made to last. In todays world that is unheard of.
Bubbles is a cute name, at least they were not called Twin Peaks (old tv show).
Did not realize tree stumps were allowed to decay into the forest floor.
Surefooted I definitely am not, any other way than the "boardwalks"?
#10, with my luck, should I pass under, that is when the tree is sure to fall.
As the saying goes: busy little beavers.
Glad everyone had a good day,
Have a nice day,
Sheila

We go to Lake Raystown in central PA. The Army Corp of Engineers have put in walking trails around the 7 Points Marina area. They are made of shredded old tires. But are colored like mulch. They are very comfy to walk on. We go around the one loop for a nice 2 mile walk. Through woods, across open hill top and along the lake. The dogs take a dip in the lake to cool off as we continue back up the hill. It is a beautiful walk. The dogs love it. So do my husband and I. There are nesting Bald Eagles down at the dam end of the lake. Mother, Father and three babies that we saw. The babies are now flying. I hope they all made it. Majestic to watch them flying.

Hi Marvelous Martha! Thank You so much for presenting today's delightful blog about You, your 3 great dogs, Kevin, Lisa, and Heather walking all around that beautiful Jordon Pond a bit away from your Skylands farm up there in Maine! Every photo about all of you walking all around Jordon Pond was absolutely great to see today and all of you had a great time being there and the weather was pretty good and the pond was lovely to see again! I remember You being there years ago and loved all of your other blogs, also! This year the winter had 13 feet of snow and many broken trees that were cut and board walks were about 1 mile long! Those damaged trees could fall into the Jordan Pond! You and your great dogs sure did have a great time and they navigated very well! There were even beavers there! The homeward pound part also looked great! Photo #30 said 1983 was engraved in the park-cute! The seagulls were also there and the hike completed at 9AM to go back for food! Thanks for this terrific blog up in Maine again! Hope You have another great day and God Bless You, your 3 dogs, Kevin, Lisa and Heather! Thanks again for another great blog and loved the web site on photo #1! Great blog, Jan

Good day Miss Martha,
Thank you for sharing this hike around Jordan Pond. And thank you for just sharing, it is a Good Thing and I have enjoyed it all since 1999.
The benefit of living so near to this area and embracing the beauty is a blessing.
You certainly are in wonderful shape.
I would like to take a moment and compliment you on your hair style. I noticed you have been wearing your hair with a flip and it is very cute, youthful and charming.

Beautiful walk Martha! Loved the pictures of U and your 3 dogs. Lovely way to start the day
I've never heard of nor have I ever encountered "boardwalks" like this before.

Hi Martha,
I've always enjoyed walking long distances and starting out early in the morning when all you hear are the birds chirping. It would be great to walk around Jordan Pond but I couldn't do it now without a cane because of my right knee. Nothing ever stops me completely though - I have never been able to sit still for very long! It must have been a bit cool when you took that hike because you all have long sleeves on. I must again mention that I know you can walk fast. I saw you do it in Miami once at a book signing. You were down the stairs and half way out of the vicinity before I could get around to the other side. I remember saying to my sister, "man she walks fast!" Thanks for the nice pictures today. Picture #32 has a real calming effect with the water being so still! Trish

P.S. I enjoyed your weekly article in the paper on Saturday titled, "Balancing act takes practice" and especially the part about dizziness. I have not fallen from a stand-up position yet but I do get a little dizzy once in awhile so I believe I will get that checked out. The fall I did take was from a broken chair that my niece neglected to fix but I was unaware when I sat in it! Thanks for a great article!

Hi Martha,
The photos are very beautiful. The last photo should be in a frame! What a great way to start the day, getting your exercise while looking at breathtaking scenery. At the end, it looked like the dogs were taking you for a walk. 🙂 I can relate, as I had a dog that would pull me too, when heading home. Thank you..

I cannot express how much I appreciate reading your blog and all the pictures have given me so much pleasure... After the killing of Cecil the lion, being sad, it is such a great joy to see someone who loves and appreciate all living things.

I am pleased that you took the time to write about our beautiful state. I only live a couple hours away so I get to enjoy Acadia several times each year, although I have yet to take a walk around Jordan pond. Remember the rest of the park too: Eagle lake, Witch Hole Pond and of course all the beautiful carriage and hiking trails.

Hi Martha. I am leaving for a 2 week vacation tomorrow on MDI. I always know how to properly pronounce it because of watching your show, and our favorite hike is at 6 am around Jordan Pond. Imagine my surprise if I had seen you on our yearly hike! The island is my favorite

Martha! Loved the latest blog. My husband and I have been walking on the Carriage Paths this summer -- we pick one each week and are having a blast. We are from the Bangor area and have been to MDI hundreds of times. This is the first summer we've really seen the Island. Bridges, trees and wildlife are amazing. Continue enjoying the Trails and keep blogging!

Good Afternoon Martha,
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on Jordan Pond. It's is one of my family's favorite hikes, which we have done almost every year for the past 28. We now share it with our two sons, ages 15 and 19, and our two labs, Cooper and Otter. We just came home today after spending a couple of days in Acadia. Our youngest son Colin, ALWAYS tries to spot your home from the top of Gorham Mountain, which I think is a hoot. If you get the chance, try Great Head Trail on the other side of Sand Beach. It's a little more challenging, but the views are breathtaking!

Can't believe you did this hike! I did this today and it was challenging to say the least! Exhilarating for sure. Twisted my ankles several times on the planks. Can't imagine the dogs doing this trail with all the stones. Going to be sore tomorrow, but still plan on doing more hiking around Acadia.
