The Marc Jacobs fashion show, my own photos of this amazing event!
I really love fashion week in New York City, which is held twice a year. In February designers show off their upcoming collections for autumn and in September, we can all get a glimpse of next spring’s amazing fashion designs. The Marc Jacobs’ fashion show for Spring 2009, was held this past September 8th at the Lexington Avenue Armory at Lexington Avenue and 25th Street. It was quite an extravaganza. I’d love to hear what you think of Marc’s colorful and dramatic clothing line. After you look at my photos make sure to visit the Marc Jacobs website.

Martha Stewart, you rock!

Thanks for the great photos Martha! Any scenes and clothes at fashion shows, to me, are a visit to another planet. An alternative universe. For the life of me I can not imagine wearing most of the clothes that designers put up on the runways.
I live and work 50 miles outside of DC (and own retail stores). The designer clothes on parade at the shows are so alien to my life (and the majority of those in my area I strongly suspect) - I often find myself laughing while watching clips from them. Someone will actually want to wear that stuff? And the cost! They can't think of something better to do with, or someone better to help with , the kind of money being asked for such often impractical stuff that will be 'out of style', and woefully so - next 'season'. E-gads!

Hi Martha, I have never been to a real fancy fashion show so this was not only entertaining but really fun to look at. I love your comments! Those platform shoes were really something! Thanks so much for the great photos...I felt like I was right there. Jan

Martha,
I love your blog. Thanks for sharing, it was fun to get a peek from such a great seat. What will you buy?

Those ultra reflective mirrored panels were such a cool swanky idea. I want it!!!!
You seem more Chanel and DeLaRenta ... or maybe a Herera? I would love to see you in one of Marc jacobs' spring collection - like the tafetta skirts and fitted boucle jackets.

Great photographs. What type of camera do you use? I know you have mentioned in your blog, but I could not find the post. Thanks for always sharing your work.

Wow, you really are quite the party girl!
Looks like a blast! Marc Jacobs has such great taste.

Martha, a great peek at a show I would have loved to have seen in person. You are so lucky to have been there. Looks like Marc was channeling Eliza Doolittle.
P.S. The guy in the red jacket looks to me like the filmmaker/actor John Cameron Mitchell.

I just love all the yellow and shimmer. So fun to see your point of view of the show!

Wow, it looks like you captured the entire collection, including everyone who was there! I am so not into fashion but I do admire the ones who can create; like where do they get their ideas!
Oh, and not to be fresh, but from the pictures I've seen of your legs, I think you could wear those short shorts just about anywhere! Thanks for the walk down the runway. Trish

What a mob scene!...you're probably used to that, though...
I always get a kick out of folks photographing YOU, and you're photographing them, too, simultaneously. One can plainly see the looks of awe or astonishment that you capture on their faces (I'd be the same way!) as you take THEIR picture - like, hey, there's Martha Stewart!
(Sure wish I could wear high heels again...and actually walk in them! These feet of mine, that I've inherited... [Big sigh!] )

Martha, on today's previously recorded show, you advertised the opening premier for this season's opener! It is Bigggg! Can't wait to see your farm in Bedford! Hope you bring along PawPaw's grandson! Nan

I think Marc Jacobs clothing is beautiful but I must say I'm quite a "country" girl and I would find no where to wear those items. Possibly the short suit. Hope you had a good time and rested up in Mexico - we're waiting with anticipation for the new season...Thanks - We love ya' N

I agree w/ DavidK, Marc's skirt is the best one there. I've never understood why designers seem to create stuff that they would never wear themselves (or someone they respect).
Sometimes I get the feeling that the designers are somehow ridiculing the women who buy/wear their stuff. I am in no way saying Marc J is doing that. He does in fact have some attractive stuff in this line. I do also understand that a fashion show is A SHOW-- but sometimes....... I wonder.
I do like a fashion show when you see a whole line of a designer's collection - you get a good sense of the style and how it can be translated, different materials, combinations. It's a good education.

After watching your show today I ran out for the pine cone and acorn boxes only to be told they have never arrived. After already telling my husband that it was a nec ary item we chased after another larger store only another five miles farther, after all we had already traveled 21 miles to this store, just to be told they had never heard of this item....I pleaded for them to check their stock rooms Martha announced that all the Michaels store had this item in now and ready for us....They suggested I go to a larger Michaels only seven miles farther up the road, unable to except defeat on we went I pleaded once again to check their backrooms I only need nine of the acorns and the same of the pine cones...Martha say's they only cost 8.99 for three.....please look again I pled........ So what happen to those beautiful boxes?????? thanks, gretchen ps..love the show and you are very inspiring to many of ole gals

Beautiful, gorgeous and wonderful. Here overseas we, as usual, share Martha's opinion!
By the way, have you also looked at Peter Som's collection. If not, please check out a picture on p.10 of the Herald Tribune of Wednesday, September 10. - Very different -
Check him out, I'd say, and Martha... take out that camera!

I adored many of Marc's latest fashions. The wild colors and avant garde styles were theatrical and so fun! When I was younger, I would have been lithe- and bold enough to wear maybe a few of them! Adorable hats! Did you see those pencil thin heels? How did they manage to balance and walk at the same time?
People tend to forget that the haute couture runways shows are more of an expression of an 'art form' to be appreciated versus offering up design ideas for practical fashion. It is the excitement, the drama, the presentation, all intended to stimulate interest in the latest trends and interest toward the designer himself. I was shocked to discover how very few customers actually purchase the featured runway fashions. Most of the designer's business sales are in no way as cutting edge as what is seen on the runway. Thanks for giving us a chance to attend with you, Martha!

Hi Martha!
I loved your photos of the Marc Jacobs fashion show. I'm a freelance scenic artist from NH and I've had the pleasure (and stress) of working on the set for Marc's shows for the last 4 years. It was a thrill to actually attend the event I had helped to "scenic", but I couldn't help but think about the tremendous effort it takes to pull off a show like that, and how most spectators are oblivious about it. No one knows better than you, I suppose, about behind-the scenes orchestration. Year before last, Marc's set designer, Stefan Beckman, called for white-washed planking for the ramp. During the run-through with the models, a few of the boards were punched through from the stiletto heels of the models. So there I was-on my knees on the ramp a few hours before the show-doing the repairs by painting faux knots in the wood! Then I rushed to buy an outfit,(I'd only brought paint clothes to the city) change out of splattered work duds for the performance. WHEW! The show must go on!
