Come see the details of my kitchen at home
Many people ask me about my kitchens, especially about the one at my home in Bedford. You may remember me writing about it in the September 2006 issue of Living. At that time it was brand new and I was so pleased to move in and use it. I am happy to say that the construction has held up extremely well for having been used so frequently over the years. And because I chose such classic designs and soft, neutral shades, I haven’t grown tired of the space. Here are some detail shots taken recently – enjoy!

This is my dream kitchen. I love it.

I love your kitchen, Martha. I am having fantasies right now about hanging out with you and the frenchies in that kitchen (and taking home a book
).
I love that you have a no shoe rule (or is it just a high heel prohibition) in your home, too. So much better for your floors and for general cleanliness!
Thank you for inviting us into your home.

Martha... I always imagined your kitchen being like the studio kitchens with everything labeled. So glad you posted these pics as I always aspired to have "that kitchen" but this is just so much better and practical. btw Martha I have been thinking of a way to cover my salts(stored in individual brioche tins) beside the stove and figured a glass dome could work. Do you leave yours uncovered or do have any ideas on covering the salts at night?

Also, I would love to see your refrigerator is it a custom Traulsen? Only someone who loves to cook would want to see the inside of Martha Stewart's fridge. lol You should so do one separate blog post about your refrigerator and its contents, as I'm sure you will be surprised on the response you will get from it. I really want to redo my kitchen and put in a glass front fridge when the time comes but having issues finding one with interior stainless steel and the finish polished finished stainless I want?

Thanks for sharing! I was most intrigued by the honey! I love honey and always try to purchase a bottle of local stuff whenever I go away. The best was a wild heather honey purchased deep in the Highlands of Scotland from a wee crofter who had a few jars out on a rickety table by the road.
yum:)

Thanks so much for sharing! I always love to see how you organize everything and to see what you use on a regular basis.
Maybe in the future you can share some of the other rooms in your house with such a detailed photo gallery.

Hi Martha! (from a big fan in Sydney, Australia!)
I really enjoyed this post. Your home is a fascination for alot of people so thank you for showing us around! I love to see that you have everything out, on display and also within easy reach. It is a "real" working kitchen!! It is, of course, a dream for most but it shows you really do love cooking and entertaining. I feel inspired!!
Thanks again!
P.S. I have a copy of your Homekeeping Handbook and plan to pass it down to my girls, who in turn will hand it down to theirs! I love that it is a great old fashioned, and timeless, guide to keeping house - something I love doing also!

Are you happy with your marble countertops? If they stain, are you happy to live with those imperfections? I am considering marble countertops in the kitchen. Thank you, Sandy.

Well Martha, I know you would not care to see my kitchen. There are dog and cat water dishes. One says Hilton Express and the other says Whole Foods.
I also can not imagine having access to so much caffeine. Two cups and I am good to go, a third and everyone including the dogs are peering out from the corners of the barns wondering "how long will this last...."
Thanks for the pictures, I can just smell the foods and hear the sounds.

What a wonderful work space. I loved the no high heels sign!

Hi Martha,
What can I say, your kitchen is like a dream and I'll probably dream about it too. Years ago in MSL magazine you gave us a glimpse of your laundry room at Skylands and I dreamt about those steam presses you use to iron your tablecloths. (It could have been one of your special magazines and now I’m going to go look for it!)
Even if I had a kitchen as big as yours, I don't have that many dishes and gadgets and pots and pans to fill it so I will continue to admire yours. I’ve been curious about those teapots ever since your Christmas party blog when Chhiring was standing in front of them. So now I know you purchased them in Beijing. I like them.
Thanks for including little cutie Francesca and I hope she decided on an outfit to wear! Btw, great segment on the Today show this morning. Trish

Hi Martha,
Love your kitchen. What I love most is that it is a working kitchen. Your appliances are displayed on the counters, your pots are hung in a very chic manner, but easily accessable, your drawers are very organized (unlike mine, need to work on that). The kitchen is very inviting.
Have a Happy Day
Kris

Hi Martha, just a fan to thank you for sharing your kitchen photos with us, and let you know that we have always admired you, because you share and let people learn. God bless always.

WOW!!!!! Gadgets, gadgets, gadgets galore!!! As a gadget addict, I am now officially jealous. Hey Martha, are guests allowed to fondle your gadgets?
LOL
OOO. I have an idea! Miss Martha's Gadget Gab. A blog all about the in's and out's, and do's and don't, and winners and flops in the world of gadgets. I also vote for a "What's in Martha's fridge today," thread. Wait, is this a democracy?
Seriously, thanks for sharing this. The organization is truly inspiring. How on earth do you keep everything clean with all the open shelving? Between my dog, my cat, my four-year-old and just the daily dust, I would go mad.
And where are your copper pots? I thought I remembered you having a collection of them. I LOVE the steel pot rack. I am adding that to my wish list for sure. Hey, that would clear up a lot of space in my cabinets for more GADGETS!!!!!
PS. The tea containers were so colorful; too bad they could not keep the honey company. Wink, wink.

Hi there Martha, I love shots of all your kitchens. To me, it's all in the details. Those gadget drawers look like mine with the extra tools all organized(I only have one). Martha, you HAVE to manufacture those square plates in different sizes(pic. 28) with the almost-straight rims through your Martha Stewart Collection at Macys. The ones you own were available through Martha by Mail and I regret not ordering them back then!
That gorgeous "Shaker-style" kitchen that you're photographed in throughout your Cooking School book, is it a part of the Summer House or is it a studio at your Starret Lehigh building? I would love to see that particular kitchen in detail.
Keep the pics coming!!

I have been applying the spring cleaning lessons from the whole living section of your website to my kitchen and bathroom. Your pictures today help give me a good sense of my progress. Thank you for sharing. There are so many categories of things in a kitchen when one is cook and a baker. The books as gifts is a lovely section. I have one too --- the books to use in the kitchen section --- at least half are authored by you and your staff. I am trying to design a nook for my Everyday Food subscrption that is more protective of the paper and usable on a daily basis. That magazine has simply changed my life in a very positive direction. I find that I use Living more on weekends and holidays when I have more time. I will subscribe to Whole Living once I figure out where to stack it.

As meticulous and elegant as one would expect from the lovely Martha Stewart.

Yes, Martha, I'd LOVE to come along and see the details of your kitchen - I accept! [giggle] Look at that little Francesca, would you?! 'Mommie, will you help me pick out something to wear today?' (that's what she's saying in the last photo). (And I notice that there are two of everything, too, on the girls' shelves). I imagine that, like every other home in America, your kitchen is the 'hub' of all activities, and the girls gravitate there also, just like everyone else. My cats do - I know that! They are quite the little chow-hounds and are equally sociable and gregarious...I get 'help' many times when I'm preparing something to eat!
You know, the older I'm getting, the more I want functionality and simplicity around me. Having everything at your fingertips is the key, and your kitchen, Martha, definitely displays those qualities (a feast for my eyes, I might add! - LOVE IT!) I'm finding that if I can't get to an item quickly, I'm less prone to use it, so I'm switching gears lately in my mentality and am revamping some of my organization. I'm getting over, too, "saving" things because they're nice and am implementing those niceties in my everyday living. (Life is too short!...) With all that we do in a day's time, we have to be good to ourselves and - well, L I V E!
I'd be interested in seeing your pantry sometime, and how you have it set up. I am bound and determined, too, to get a P-Touch! ('pantry' = 'organization' in my mind which then translated into labeling) - I know which one I want - I just have to break down and stop being chinchy (an ex-coworker's word for me, meaning cheeeap). I'm frugal-minded and usually need to find the necessity in the spending of hard-earned cashito - gee whiz, I'm sure I'd be able to justify it once I got one, how 'bout it?! [giggle] I will keep everyone apprised if/when that happens...you can count on it! [another giggle]
(Liquid) Sunshine, whereever you are!

Do you have marble kitchen countertops? If so, how do you remove waterspots or light etching? I have tried several products with no success.

I saved the pages from your kitchen story in my Vision Book. It's beautiful. I especially love your unique cabinet veneers and how you reused old marble for your floors. It's really nice to see it now that it's lived in.

Martha,
I vote for the fridge details too! LOL What things you like to stock in there?
Beautiful kitchen....I want storage like you. BTW..ever making those wonderful storage jars with the screw covers like you had at K-Mart? Those were the best and the Martha "green" Pyrex! PLEASE BRING BACK!
What is the color paint you have on the walls? Just gorgeous!
I can relate to Francesa's wonderment of what to wear! LOL My Yorkies have a box too with toys and things like Franie!
I think the next big prize should be a knockoff Martha kitchen design for some lucky viewer! Hmmm...maybe next year's season opener? LOL
Thanks again for sharing part of your world to us.

Hi, I've just completed my Martha's Vineyard Cottage book entitled, Happiness is a Cottage in the Woods by the Sea... I think you and your friends will find it very interesting & beautiful.
This is not just another coffee table photography book, the book provokes happiness and joy by transporting the reader right into Martha’s Vineyard’s most extravagant and exuberant celebration as seen through the eyes of award winning photographer Stu Sporn, The cottage pictures literally pop off the page and the quotes about how famous people define happiness are irresistible.

I don't think I could ever tire of seeing your lovely space ...

When I rode my bicycle from Spain to Senegal last year, I spent three weeks cycling in Morocco and loved their food. Unfortunately, I couldn't carry a tagine since we had a limited amount of space. I loved seeing yours displayed in your kitchen. They made me hungry for some of the great smells and tastes of Moroccan cooking.

I recently saw Julia Child's kitchen in the Smithsonian & was surprised by how ordinary it was! It's fun seeing your kitchen & I had to smile at the no heels sign. (I have a no shoes rule in my house, too!) Thank you for sharing your house!

Hi Martha, Oh, how I wish I lived in Bedford at your farm! Your kitchen is the best I have ever seen! Everything you have is not only beautiful, but very worthwhile and useful. I have many of the gadgets that you have, but not the coffee, juice, or grinding equipment that is so prevalent in your wonderful kitchen. I love the way you hang your pots and pans. I would love to take a personal tour of your entire farm. That would be the greatest! Did Francesca or Sharkey take these photos of your kitchen? It says 'The Daily Way' in the lower righthand corner of most of the photos!! What do we get to tour next?! I can't wait to see! Jan

Boy did you put the FUN in functional! As hokey as that sounds, it is so delightful to see such a beautiful, USEFUL kitchen.
I especially love the mercury lights, how well your open shelves are organized, and those amazing dog bowls! It's funny, not having seen these before, I've thought of casting stone encrusted vessels myself recently. Leave it to you to find the first horse out of the gate!
Many thanks for the glimpse into how someone who really knows how to cook designs and stocks their kitchen!

Oh, Martha. If only... if I was ever fortunate enough to break the bank, this would be the kitchen for me. Not only is it functional but roomy and artfully designed. I too would love to know what's in your fridge! LOL Maybe one day you'll have a lottery and the winners would get an evening with you at your home. I can dream, can't I??? :}

Tonight I was looking for a spoon -any spoon- and realized all 5 teaspoons I own are in the dishwasher, dirty. What I like most about your kitchen is something that is attainable to almost anybody, on any budget- just having lots of practical stuff like silverware (and spoons)that is well-organized. Now that I have seen your kitchen I'm going to go buy some spoons (at Goodwill, on the cheap).
Thanks for sharing your special place, it is inspiring.

Martha,
I wish I can remodel my kitchen, but my finances is not good at the moment to do it.
I am from Brazil. I am living in US the last 15 years and I have been follow your program a long time.
My husband (is from here) and sometimes he call me "Martha" because
I love doing the same things you do.
Your like your kitchen.

Hi Martha,
I am a fan from Venice Beach, California.
Thank you for continuing to share your kitchen with us on your blog; the images are beautiful! I have been 'hanging on' to my MSL Magazine issue that features your new kitchen because at the time it was released I was planning to remodel my Beach House kitchen. Well, my plans and dreams are finally coming into fruition and I am using the same "Harewood" veneer to cover my cabinet door panels and island. The product guide in the back of the magazine was very useful for that, and I ordered it fromt he same source where your veneers came from. It is a truly unique veneer that will be sure to be a show-stopper when people step into my house. My kitchen will be a modern/contemporary version of yours, but I'll be proud to say that is was "Martha Stewart" inspired. I am a bit surprised you used Marble countertops though, your kitchen gets so much use; how are they holding up for stains? Every stone fabricator I talk to says it will stain immensely, even with continuous sealing, from wine, food, even oily hands, etc. I love the look of marble rather than granite, but don't think I can live with tomato-sained marble coutnertops. At any rate, thank you, thank you for sharing and for inspiring me. Marie
